  1. Which student were you? John Arizona Hiking Trails
  2. Apparently you have not moved on. You came to us with his thread. Apparently you have something you want to get off your chest. So spill it already or close your account. After all, you've moved on. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  3. Very Sad. Rick owned the DZ I started out at in 1992. He was a great guy. Sorry to hear of his passing. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  4. I own two, but I only use them in the Tunnel and on very cold days (in Arizona). I prefer not to wear them if possible. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  5. Having a lot of low time jumpers makes it very difficult to match a fall rate. Find an experienced RW jumper - 1000 jumps would be great - buy them a jump and a beer and ask that they lay base for you. Go fly with them. They will be able to set a consistent base on which you can practice falling and docking. Video would be very helpful as well. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  6. So you sunk out and ended up 200 feet down. Were you able to stay 200 feet down or were you accelerating away from the group? How experienced was the group? A inexperienced group will likely have a wide ranging fall rate. What is the suit you are wearing made of? Do you have booties? Swoop cords are helpful if you are diving to the formation and need assistance in stopping. They do not make sense for general fall rate control. I suggest you work body position and fall rate control in a tunnel well before you make modifications on a suit. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  7. Skydive Arizona has banned Argus from their airplanes. Even if the Rig Manufacturer has not banned them, SDAZ posted a notice that they feel the risk too great to allow the Argus AAD in any SDAZ aircraft. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  8. I always give up my New Years Resolutions. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  9. The example with P is fine and many teams perform Block 7 that way. If you rotated or slid the two pieces you could make them line up as shown in the block diagram. The block diagram shows that the head of the side buddies are facing the same way and the sidebody persons are on the same side. The example with the N is not allowed. If you tried to rotate or slide the pieces, they would never line up as shown in the block diagram. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  10. This is not an incident. Someone had a poor landing and was sore. This forum would have 200,000 posts if that was a criteria. Move along people. Nothing to see here. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  11. By organization, do you mean USPA? A $1M payroll is small. 20 employees earning an average of $40K with a benefit/tax load of 25% would give you a $1M payroll. Being based in Washington DC, the cost of wages is probably much higher than the US average. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  12. During the Arizona Challenge this year we went up and attempted a 40-way speed star from the DC-3! That was fun. Built pretty good, but not all 40 were in slots at break-off. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  13. Final day started with a completed 200 way. We did not try a second point. The second jump was not so good. On the third attempt, my Skyvan lost fuel to both engines (some electrical problem) and we had to abort the attempt and bail. The pilot dead-sticked the Skyvan in. Repairs made and we tried again. Forth attempt was the best. First point complete and two grips short on the second point. Last attempt was no good. A great event by P3. It was very cool watching 199 fall away. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  14. Got the 200-way yesterday. The last grip landed as the pilot chute (mine!) was released, but all grips were there before I was extracted. The builds are going great and today we move on to the sequential. It is really cool watching 199-way fall away from me as I deploy. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  15. Please do not encourage the stupid and the lazy to vote. It diminishes MY vote. Really, folks. Voting is hard. It's a lot of effort. Don't do it. I'll vote and take care of everything for you. Trust me. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  16. There is no real public transport from Metro Phoenix to Eloy. I did take a Greyhound Bus once when my car died right before nationals, but I don't recommend it. It only gets you about 3 miles from the DZ and that was a long walk. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  17. Amy, what is the definition of Novice for the 2-Way FS event? The rules at http://www.skyventureaz.com/App_System/Lib/File/Upload/2_way_FS_info_and_rules do not define that eligibility. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  18. You need to make sure the tunnel knows you want to share your time with another parson or group. If you try to fly for 10 straight minutes (or even 5) you will be hating life. A good rotation is where you fly for 1-2 minutes and out at least two minutes. You can fly all 10 minutes in one session, but that session should be about an hour long. Some aspects are different but each minute in the tunnel is similar to a one minute free fall. Mixing freefall with tunnel is fine, but recognize that your body will become more exhausted with each tunnel minute or freefall you do. Pack for yourself and the fatigue will increase. Enjoy the tunnel and Perris. It is a great DZ. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  19. 10:0:0 Organized 5 formation loads (27-ways) on Saturday. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  20. Sadly, I relate very well to that video. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  21. Skydive Arizona has 3 or 4 running/flying Sky Vans and another for parts. They use them a lot for military drops, but we jump them regularly too. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  22. Thanks, Gordo. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  23. What is the plane at 2:05? John Arizona Hiking Trails
  24. The photo and the skydive is over 10 years old. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  25. You can say the same thing about all of skydiving. Why risk your life, limbs, sight, money, etc. with no upside. I jump regularly without goggles. It is not a big deal. I can see just fine. John Arizona Hiking Trails
