  1. I got 4 sets of BDUs in basic and ended up buying a set of ACUs when I got to my unit (as that's what everyone else was wearing). Before each deployment, they gave us 4 more sets of ACUs (I think). 3 deployments in 5 years means we ended up with enough uniforms to open a small surplus shop. 2. Anyone who has served honorably is a veteran in my eyes. I was never directly shot at (a few IDF attacks that didn't land near me) over my 3 tours in Iraq, but like someone above said, many of the people who have been shot at/doing the shooting have been wrong place, wrong time (with some exceptions of people actively going out looking for trouble). Given how often I was moving by air or ground, and to the nature of the locations I was at, I'm actually a little surprised I never got engaged. I know a few guys that were 'let go' from the military. One for possessing and distributing child porn, at least one or two more for just shitty attitudes and such. I do not consider them veterans. The military wasn't a hard job as far as doing your job all the time. 90% of E-4 and below just have to be at the right place, at the right time, in the right uniform (that they gave you), doing the right thing with the right attitude. The hardest part was the physical demand and psychological issues that come up due to where you're at, what you're doing and why you're doing it. 5. Good god, that's a lot of tests. Thinking about CCDA and then CCDP next. Thoughts on that vs going for CCNP-S? Oh, by the way, I'm also A+, Network+ and even CCENT One day I'll get drunk enough to say I can do the CCIE R&S lab, but man, that just sounds like a pain in the ass... 6. From what I have seen, it was a King Air that lost power just after takeoff. I'm curious as to what happened that caused both fans to stop and at what point the pilot attempted the impossible turn. Sounds like there was enough fuel for a significant fire... 7. Aint that the f'n truth... Glad I don't have to take ROUTE again... hopefully ever. Passed ROUTE today, SWITCH was last Saturday and TSHOOT was a week ago yesterday. My brain hurts in a way I didn't know it could, but atleast I've finished for now! CCNA Aug 2012 CCNA-S Mar 2014 CCNP Today GNS 3 is great, especially the new version that allows IOL/IOU, not that I know anything about how well that works, since I'm not a Cisco engineer. 8. Time to start thinking about a winter home down south somewhere, even if its just a condo. Hmmm, maybe so . . .
  9. The pilot made sure to inform the tower that it would be a full stop landing. He also made a great landing, couldn't have been much softer! She will fly again. 16. Consider yourself lucky, every time I go anywhere I have to watch my back because people are threatening to tie me to a pole and cover me with things that aren't very appealing. Of course, that's if I didn't learn of their plans at Fitz, steal their stash and use some of it against the leader of the pack. 17. I have a Google doc spreadsheet for my flight log. Makes it MUCH easier to find specific things in the entries (say I want to find all of my high performance or complex time, it's easy to filter). It's also free... I've considered moving my rigging logbook over to a document, and I still might, but that would be a bunch of entries to move over and I'd have to be pretty bored to do it. Of course, I don't think you could run macros to send emails on the google doc version. 18. Well, let's see... First the earth cooled, and then the dinosaurs came, but they got too big and fat, so they all died and they turned into oil... And then the Arabs came and they bought Mercedes Benzes. 20. The North is the actual FW airfield (Campbell Army Airfield), the South is a helicopter field (Sabre Army Heliport). There was a DZ across from gate 3 at Outlaw Airfield but it's gone now (moved to Waverly). There is no FTCKY sport parachute club. There IS the 101st Airborne Division Parachute Team though. I don't remember if Son DZ was still in use for HALO (group guys) or static line (also group guys). 21. Won't stop anyone. They'll just say they forgot their card and have the DZ look them up by their number... Or if they've been jumping for a while, they probably have more than one card. I have several with various ratings that show lifetime membership. 23. Some of the UAVs flying around Iraq were loud enough to hear from the ground, and they were thousands of feet above. Of course, depending where you are, the surrounding area is more noisy than any drone could be. 24. Most DZ's that I know of will do a conversion jump or two before signing them off, no AFF required. Usually it's for HALO guys that are transitioning to BOC deployment but it sounds like the OP is used to sport gear already, so it would likely be just a checkout dive. 25. One of the other reasons that I suggest having a rigger at least assist besides the actual disconnection is that people have done screwy things like leaving the toggles on, cutting the lower steering lines because they couldn't get the toggles off, I've even heard of one with parts of the reserve risers still attached. A rigger is far more likely to not make a mess with the disconnection and packaging, especially if they've got a big ball of a mess before, even if just a professional courtesy. Nobody wants to spend 10 minutes trying to un-screw a reserve that should've just been disassembled and packaged correctly (which takes almost no time at all). It also leaves less chance that someone will cut something, forget to include sliders, links, etc. "I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message
