  1. Ohhh man I think I just creamed my pants :$

If I ever come to Kansas to skydive I'm probably gonna steal it ;)

But hell by the time I get to travel to jump I'll have stage 3 on the srt-4 with a semi built motor B|

    1 2 3.... GOOOOOOO

  2. Hi all, I bought a sabre 190 for my first rig and need to replace the slider on it. I have done some decent reading on the subject and want to know the benefits/downfalls of getting either a larger slider or a pocket slider. Also, PD says I need the exact measurements of the slider I have now, but the guy cut a hole in it because the openings were hard so I won't be using those measurements. Anybody have measurements of sliders that worked good for them?

  3. I put together my first rig for $1300. (I'm on a budget though, college student).

Seems to me most of the stuff I looked at:

A used reserve fell somewhere in the $600 (last 10 years)

    A used main about $1200

A newer container will probably run you about $1500-$1600, but there are plenty of good ones for about $900.

Of course these are rough estimates and any dealer on here is more than welcome to correct me. But I have been looking for gear for the last few months, just what I noticed anyways.

  4. I'm in college too, great thing to be able to jump to get away from classes and stress. Hell this past semester I made a couple of jumps right before my math final and ended up making an A on it :D

Don't know your financial situation, but if money is a problem I would suggest waiting until you are out of school, hard to stay current if you don't have the funds. Kinda goes with time management too, if your real busy with school stuff and can't manage it in I would wait. Just a couple of things I experienced when I started.

  5. YEPP and all those are my OPINIONS which I believe I am allowed to have correct? Maybe I'm a little opinionated but I just wanted to see his side of it.

  6. As far as my freedom, I have the freedom to say whatever I want. And technically yes, I have to freedom to tell you to screw off, however I believe thats whats wrong with a lot of people in the world today. Not willing to listen to other people who know more. I don't have an attitude with you, I have an opinion about what you said. Was it the main point of your paragraph? NO. But I still believe you should step in and tell me no if I want to jump in 40 mph winds whether its your authority or not. But I guess you are just going to refuse to see that. So as to end this conversation I have nothing against you personally, I just believe what I believe and you disagree. :S

The lines are drawn by experience/license. Once someone has an A licence they CAN do most anything they want. My rating does not give me authority to stop stupid. I can comment, but....
If I ask a 50 jump wonder if they want/need a gear check and they say "no, I'm OK", there's nothing I can do to force them to submit. I may push the issue depending on how well I know the jumper, but legally/ethically I have no more authority or obligation than any other jumper in this situation.

^^^ I hope the instructors I jump with don't think like that. Yeah I have an A license now but ill be damned if I'm gonna tell somebody who has been doing this 10 times longer than I have to back off. I would hope most instructors would say how about you take your pride down a little before you get yourself killed and let me take a look. There isn't a single ounce of me that would be upset if an instructor came up to me and said hey would you mind if i check your gear real quick? Hell I welcome that with open arms because the number 1 thing I have learned so far is that you NEVER stop learning.

Whoa, Sheldon. Stop, take a deep breath, then go back and reread this thread. Maybe read s l o w l y so that you comprehend.
This isn't about what I'm willing to say or do, it's about AUTHORITY.
I can only give advice, not because I'm an "I", but because I'm concerned as a fellow skydiver. You say you'll listen. That's fine. What if you don't like my advice?
Do you want me, as an "I", to have the authority to TELL you what you may or may not do on your next jump or whether you can freefly or belly fly or what size canopy you will be allowed to jump after you've earned your license, and have the authority to ground you if you don't follow orders????
    Sorry, not in my sport.
    With freedom comes responsibility.
Personal responsibility for ourselves. If someone chooses not to exercise this responsibility............................................ pay the price or take up bowling!
    I vote for freedom

First off with your response I can tell your not a looking to help as a "fellow skydiver". I'm not 5 and I know what I read. I think your taking your responsibility too lightly honestly. You like your freedom and I like my life. If somebody thinks they have the right to override an instructor when they have for example an A or B license then they have no business being in the sport. If you were the student that did that to YOUR instructors then so be it, but speaking for myself and a LOT of people new to the sport I have met, I believe that there is no excuse for somebody who has devoted a good portion of their life to this sport not to help and guide people that probably don't know better. I'm not at all trying to be rude to you, I just hope most people don't view this subject the way you do. If it is people lives at risk then I believe by you being an instructor you have an obligation and a duty to help those less knowledgeable than you whether they want your advice or not. If you refuse to step in when your heart tells you hey something isn't right or I would like to check that, then I'm sorry but you have no right being in a position of being an instructor. But maybe I'm a little to sane for this sport?

Let me try this again, in the right forum....

Besides jumping out of a plane :) how did you go from Wuffo to Skydiver.

I did my first jump, AFF, at skydive Palatka in Florida, in July 2001. Then I couldn't jump again for various reasons until I started AFF over in August of 2008. That first jump in 2001 was enough to instantly addict me.

There is no "I always wanted to skydive so I did a tandem!" Honestly when I first started everybody told me you HAD to do a tandem. (Guess I didn't research it enough) But ever since I was 12 I knew I would jump when I turned 18. Sure enough the luckiest day of the century came around and I jumped (7/7/07) There sure were a lot of people jumping that day lol

300 ft. is a NORMAL opening (IMHO). It's just harder than you newbies are used to or can stand.;) The new canopies just open in a streamer that eventually clears.:P:S

I WANT my parachute to opening in 300-400 ft. when I'm doing a demo from 2500'. Or a hop and pop from 3000'.

Ok then maybe it was like 150 ft. ;) lol all i know is that it was not fun.

  11. Just curious as to why you can't use an rsl if your shooting video? Probably somethin obvious but I'm drawing a blank?

I bought my rig through the dropzone.com classifieds. The previous owner took wonderful care of the rig, even though the main was not as new as yours. The deal was also brokered by a highly reputable dealer, who also posts on these forums. Even so, I had everything gone over by a Master Rigger. Not only that, but last year when I bought a brand new main canopy, straight from the manufacturer, I had the same rigger inspect the canopy before I took it up for a jump.

Let's not ever forget that for all the good clean fun we're having, our rigs SAVE OUR LIVES every single time we jump. You might never even have to use your reserve (it happens), but you're still depending on your main to save your precious heinie every jump. Treat it with the respect it deserves. Love your canopy and it will love you.

+1 to that, I want it sent to my rigger before anything to make sure my butt lives to jump another day, not just because I don't trust people.

Of course if I meet somebody in person and I feel like your not gonna screw me then sure I'll send you the money, but you better believe my rigger is still gonna check it and if the smallest bit is wrong or different then I would definitely expect a refund.
"I didn't know they gave out rings at the holocaust"

  14. Yeah actually every instructor I have talked to said do NOT buy from anyone who will not let your rigger inspect it first... Why the hell would you not agree to those terms? Why would a dzo/rigger want anything to do with stealing somebodys money? Just doesn't make sense and sorry if you don't agree, but that seems like the safest way to go about things.
"I didn't know they gave out rings at the holocaust"

  15. IMO this is a freakin joke. I got screwed out of not getting some gear because the guy wouldn't ship it to my rigger/DZO. What dzo is gonna risk his entire career for a few thousand dollar rig? I refuse to send that much money over paypal because paypal is not a physical person. If something screws up and I don't get my gear its gonna be a pain in the butt to go through all the crap thats needed to get reimbursed for your purchase. Whereas a dzo or rigger is a physical person with a physical address where they can be physically taken their happy ass to jail if they don't get their money.
