  1. I jumped there when I was in Switzerland years ago. Still the most beautiful views I've seen during a skydive. And dropping into the valley felt really weird when I started to see ground level with me but I was still in free fall. I remember them telling me to be careful when tracking away at the end of a jump because the ground will come up to meet you if you track to far.

    Have fun!

    Sheesh.

I didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition.

  3. To me it sounds like you made the right decision. Skydiving is not for everyone and doing it to make someone else happy is not a good idea. Let skydiving be your wife's thing. Hang out at the dropzone if you want and you can still be part of the community. And if after hanging out for a while you decide that you want to give it a try, the sky will still be there.

  4. Too much yoga is probably not the problem. I started doing yoga to help my skydiving and the body awareness I learned helped a lot, so stick with it. You only have a few minutes of free fall and are hopefully more focused on safely completing your dive than getting the exact body position that you want. More jumps and some time in the tunnel will get you more experience, which will help allow you to expand what you are aware of in free fall. The more experience you have, the less overwhelming all the sensations are and the easier it is to be aware of the smaller things.

For now, stay safe, have fun, relax, and breathe.

EV's are still the toys of the upper class and not anywhere near something that could be purchased by the average person here.

We got our Bolt EV for a price in the mid 30's, which isn't unreasonable for a brand new car. Add in the over $10k in rebates and tax credits we got and the price drops into the 20's, similar to a new Camry.

And even if you ignore all that and still insist on using the 80,000 miles, that's still less than 4 years at the rate we are driving it. We've been really happy with the purchase and I hardly would consider us upper class. If I was upper class I would be driving something much faster and sportier than my 7 year old Subaru with 185,000 miles ;)

  6. I had one in my left shoulder and the pain was gone for a few months. My issue ended up needing surgery, but the cortisone injection allowed me to get through the summer and some travel that I had planned pain free.

The tone of everyone is smooth and professional. The ATC guy talks just a little fast at times, but not panicky, just like he needs to be efficient. The Captain sounds like she is out for a Sunday drive. The right seat guy is pretty much almost as calm sounding as her. Just exactly as it should be. A well oiled machine ready to deal with a problem.

Very smooth and professional but you can hear the aircrew's tone change when they are asking to have medical crews waiting on the runway. I'm guessing the change happened when they were told about the passenger who got partially sucked out.

The main fear that I hold is that all of America will follow California's example. We have Detroit and Flint Michigan as examples of the end result. California is imploding on itself. We have folks that have migrated here and still have family there. They report it is terrible, crime and filth are spreading.

As a California resident it sure doesn't seem like the state is imploding on itself. In my area (Los Angeles suburbs) there are tons of new jobs and a number of new housing developments and community improvements under construction. I even did a quick Google search and the crime rate is better than the national average for cities of this size and decreasing. I know that my area doesn't necessarily represent every part of California but having lived here for most of my life and having friends and family all over the state I feel pretty confident saying that things are not imploding.

What specific things make you think that California is so bad?

    >If they want to protest something what's wrong with that?

They are protesting the WRONG THING! They are completely politically incorrect! The only valid protest is a protest that aligns with the government's agenda.

Now, if they were protesting the mishandling of Benghazi, or the mean women who keep casting aspersions on white male leaders, the right wing would be proclaiming how wonderful it was to see young people taking a keen interest in current events and politics, and would be noting that this sort of activism is good news for the future of America.

That's what confuses me. It appears that the students in the article are planning an anti-abortion protest which seems to be inline with the conservative agenda.

You do not really understand what being an American means.

An enemy is anyone who attempts to impose his will on me, my family or my community in such a manner as to make me feel threatened.

I feel threatened when the ultra religious try to turn their religion into law and force their will on me, my family, and my community. But that does not make them my enemy.

Both them and I are trying to make our country and world better and that is a very good thing. The only problem is that we have different ideas of what better is. That does not mean that they are my enemy, it just means that we need to have a discussion and both of us need to be willing to compromise.

C'mon. How about the fun people.

    AggieDave was mentioned.

    How about Lucky McSwervy?
    DSquared?
    ILuv2Fly?

    The "three Smutskateers"?

    How about Gonzala?
I haven't heard the Greenskeepers in a long time.

    Turtle? Bolas? VanillaSkyGirl?

Lots more that I can't think of right now.

    Hi Alan,

When electric cars become affordable, they can be the 2nd car for the commute to work.

I think that we are getting there:

My wife and I recently bought a Chevy Bolt EV. It has plenty of range for her commute plus any errands we have to run in the evening and we only need to charge it every few days. I still have my Subaru that we use on longer trips where the Bolt doesn't have the range or we won't have easy access to charging stations.

***Good thing we just cut tax revenues.

Is that because employers had to use the 2017 tax withholdings in January because the 2018 withholdings hadn't been released until halfway through the month? I know that my paycheck didn't change until February.
