The Economist says (again) to legalize drugs.
beowulf replied to lewmonst's topic in Speakers Corner
Ahhh yes, the testosterone response. How many thousands of people should die before you admit that the current tactics are useless and are making no head way in reducing drug use or crime??? -

Right, I agree with you. I don't think the black market for drugs will ever go away entirely. But like the illegal alcohol production it will go down significantly. -

I disagree. Banning is not regulating. -

The way I see it as long as there is a demand for a product there will be a supplier. The real question here is who do we want to control the drug market? Black Market or the Government?? Right now the Black Market controls the drug trade and with the Black Market comes wars over the profits. The Gov. just chases after and trys to reduce the drug trade. -

Approx. Amount Spent in Sport Divided By Your Jumps = ???
beowulf replied to Mazz's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I don't like to think too much on how much I have spent on skydiving. Most of my jumps have been at Skydive Dallas and they keep track of everything. When I ask for a print out of the jumps for the weekend it shows the total amount of money I have spent at Skydive Dallas and that amount is past the $40,000 mark!! Of course that doesn't count the other dropzones I have jumped at and I didn't start jumping at Skydive Dallas till I had almost a 100 jumps. But I can't think of anything I would rather have spent the money on!! -
This is worth repeating. I whole heartedly agree with you. Also I would like to add that I cringe when someone says "it couldn't happen to me because....". This to me is a big sign of complacency like billvon mentioned. Anything can happen on any skydive.

First time camera-flyer looking for lens advice
beowulf replied to AFJumper03's topic in Photography and Video
Yeah I have a hard time saying no to more skydiving gear. I think this is one of the few "first time camera flyer" threads where no one can say you need more jumps! -
How much for just the Face Peel Pocket, Cheek, and Neck Ripper?

First time camera-flyer looking for lens advice
beowulf replied to AFJumper03's topic in Photography and Video
Get both! I like the .5 for outside stuff and have just bought a .3 for inside use. -
It would be a big mistake to do what you propose. At your experience level adding a camera would be very dangerous and distracting. Your initial post tells me you are not taking skydiving seriously enough. This sport can kill you if you aren't paying attention. Work on your freefall skills and canopy skills before ever thinking of adding a camera.

Does your Sabre2 open on or off heading more often?
beowulf replied to Rooky's topic in Gear and Rigging
I have to fly my Sabre2 135 through the opening if I want it to open on heading by doing harness turns. -
Damn! That would have just pissed me off if I were one of the people held against my will. Once released I would do my best to see they didn't get any severance package or minimize as much as possible! Fuck them.

Well your in luck! This weekends is looking to be a weather weekend! And it's safety day tomorrow!

Average price to assemble a new rig
beowulf replied to regulator's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You weren't paying attention. It's not $100 just to assemble the reserve. It includes attaching the main and packing the reserve. -
Oh I work for a company named ITT and I thought maybe you were referring to them.

Setting up an archive is probably the best route. This will create a new database on your local machine. If you choose to create a new local replica of your email database you will need to disable replication of deletions. I am a Lotus Notes Admin. I can talk you through setting up either option. If you need help just send me a PM.

I agree with you billvon, there shouldn't be any minimum wage. Increasing minimum wage just makes everything more expensive and companies look for new ways to reduce their expenses either by out sourcing labor or cutting employees. All companies do everything they can to maintain their margins.

VRW Blocks and Randoms Changes Official to IPC rules
beowulf replied to sarabennett's topic in Freeflying
Thank you for the update. I am looking forward to competing again this year. -
And it wasn't just the fault of any one President or one party. It was the fault of both parties, Senate, Congress and a number of Presidents. Also the dumbasses in between who should have known better to accept or give out the bad loans. Everyone should have known better to be giving out or accept sub prime loans.

Sorry I missed that. I think the lines would cut right throught the tape with out too much problem if there is a lot of tension on the lines. That set up would be begging for line snags.
-
ummm I don't think that your sock and tape idea is going to make your helmet any more snag resistant. You underestimate the force of your risers. From those pictures I would say you will probably lose your socks and the tape on the first jump.
