  1. I was sorting thru some of my old gear and cutaway harnesses tonight and thought, why not? So.....riddle me this... Has anyone ever jumped a round, delta/paradactyl, and an old square (thinking of a stratostar) in the same day? Oh I guess it would also include my Spectre being I will not land at least two of the older canopies. And if it has been done before, when? Was it while the canopies were still in "current" production or being jumped? Howard, if this has been done PLEASE let me know so I can forget about the foolish idea! Otherwise I will jump the others on a "casual" basis as I have done before with other old canopies. Not sure if my heart can handle that much adrenaline in one day! So my thoughts are to give it a go this weekend? I recently acquired a PC (Churchill in color, I believe it is called) which I have not jumped yet nor the 5 cell stratostar (which I have two if them) it looks like a great weekend to do so. As of tonight I am thinking I can pull this off, might chicken out by Saturday but will prep the gear anyway.
  2. There is no statuate of limitations on Pie. I disagree with that! There has to be limitations, I mean its been like 25 years since my 100th and 10 since my 1000th! And if it was for every 100 then I should have been pied 4x's a year, 2 years in a row, forget that!!! Even the Law has limitations eh? I'm gonna regret posting this aren't I? Edited: Popsjumper, be quiet! Or we will pie you for finally getting your D license! Deal???
  3. Ironically, my first 3 static line jumps I went into the fetal position! I mentioned that to someone before and they replied, "well, thats all you knew" LOL Damn this is an old post!
  4. Yup remember them well, so well that I went looking for one a couple of months ago. Found it in a hardware store for $120!!! Did not buy it. As a child on a DZ the little red wagon was the best Wagon Draggon ride we had. My brother and I took the wheels off of it and used our Dad's PC on windy days to drag us across the DZ property. Had a blast and of course a few bruises came with the rides. Broke out a few old canopies on a windy day a while back and really missed having one of those! Would take a used one if anyone has one to donate. :) Great memories!
  5. We took my fathers old Vectors and made can wraps out of them. I kept the one with his name on the mud flap, but we gave away the rest to his fellow jumpers at the DZ. The cypres pouch was cool had a pocket to hold your DL, keys, smokes, or what ever when drinking a beer!

  7. Airspeed is your friend when hanging.
  8. Wimp! Would have been real exciting to land with the whirly bird like that!! he he he That would have been a great log entry, and that pilot was good enough to make it happen safely!! Thought i taught you about snag points with the SF mystery AC last June? Short memory eh? LOL Hey, glad you made it and you did walk away with a great story and learning experience.
  9. You suck! I miss that show, and the chance to jump with the Liberty Parachute Team that year! What a great show, you luck bastard! Well, I guess you do deserve it! Great job Jim!
  10. Yup they are out there, just have to know where to find them. Cherry Air, Southern Cross was around for a while, but his come back did not go so well. Many AC you mention are too expensive to run these days for jumpers. AN2 was grounded in TX, DC4 was not worth it, DC9 is grounded as well as far as i know. Scarabou (carabou) is out there but is way to expensive for any one event. Oh to have the days of ole back again....
  11. Actually I was not, but am familiar with them, would imagine being Speed Skydiving is more popular in Europe the teflon system would be useful? If I remember right Amazon's Infinity has two standard closing loops and is single pin.
  12. I believe many speed skydivers use two loops, Amazon could confirm I am sure.
  13. Here's one...thanks going to Chuck Akers. And 19 others! My 1 jump during SF this year, well not counting the "mystery" ac which we cannot talk about. Great jump Chuck! Would be great to see it going again!
  14. Hey Todd, I agree with Jimmy, excellent post and great attitude! I think you will do well, heck if I was not about to start my own "adventure" I would be calling you. I grew up on a DZ from the 60's to the 80's. I remember when I got back into the sport about 10 years ago after being out for even longer. The first thing I did was go and visit 3 of the larger operations and visited 2 of the largest boogies in the country. I wanted to see how the DZ managed to pull off 100+ tandems in one day (obviously with large AC, many rigs and staff) but the organizational side of it. Same with visiting the large boogies. I came back and started The SkyFest Boogie which has been considered by some to be one of the largest events for about 10 years now. It was a great experience and glad I did it. With your posts I think folks would be lucky to have you as a DZO. I would also like to personally thank you for supporting the previous operations on your property and glad to see that you want to give it a go. We need more DZ's anywhere we can get them. Even if they are close to another, they should support each other for the growth of the sport as a whole. I wish your family and your new jump family the BEST of luck and success! Sincerely J
  15. Dont twist the belly band, might make for an interesting ride, well not as bad as an ROL though. 4th of July is not the best of time in my exp for a large event, at least not since the Nationals in OK. Being it was pretty much the only large event and before the Otter came into use. Seems to be split for family days, and depends on when it falls which is a Monday and that helps. let me look into it, will do some more research. But darn, that still puts two large events in the same month. How far is LP from your DZ?
  16. Thats what I said NW After the 4th is good, it used to be the 3rd week in July until I moved it to the EAST~ LOL. So something like the 19th to the 25th would do it? Would need to check other events in the area, including the Canadians eh? They have the Rainbow event up there around then dont they? Would love to see the Ferrington's again as well. I'll look into it. How much are jump tickets? THe only other boogie event about then is Lost Prairie and not all that many people from this side of the mountains go over to LP.... some ... but not a lot percentage wise. Still it would be best to do it the week before during the middle of the month. It would draw from the Canadian DZ's just to the north in Vancouver and from the DZs in Oregon as well as Washington. Heck it might even get some of the California contingent on their way to Lost Prairie. Nope no Rainbow Event that I know of.... I think that is over in the Toronto area.... 2000 miles away. There is a small boogie earlier in the summer just across the border on the east side of BC that gets the Farringtons Otter or Caravan. Jump tickies are $24 One thing is for sure... it wont have that stiffling humidity and temp indexes over 100 degrees. Not impossible to get HOT here.. but when it does.. its usually humidity of less than 50% when it does. Sh&! thats right, we used to be just before or overlapping LP back in the day, thats one reason I could never make it to LP when working for Sun Path, or had to go straight from SF to the WFFC, man I hated that. 20+ straight boogie days in a row, one of which I ran.uggh. Hmmm not sure if doing SF that close to LP and only a week before would be the best idea. But that does mean that maybe I could sneak over to it for a few days. what to do, what to do? Oh and on the chest strap thing again, its just a temporary belly band anyway, remember those? Sure you do!

  18. Yeah I gotta work on that once I get my shoulder rebuilt. I REALLLLY need to get to one of the World Cup events in Europe where the air is thinner at the higher elevation DZ's. I keep going to meets where its hotter than hell, with high humidity and near sea level. All that thick air slows ya down Still complaining about SkyFest temps are ya? geez! Maybe one day I can take it to Europe, problem is I may never bring it back. LOL Why not Mile Hi? Bet you could leave a contrail there!
  19. QuoteI know of a Drop Zone that is intentionally screwing another Drop Zone. Skydive Temple has the annual Deadman Boogie on labor day weekend. They have been doing this for the past 3 or 4 years. Skydive Temple is your family type drop zone that makes you feel very welcome and is not a huge tandem factory. They cater to their Fun Jumpers and are always welcome to new jumpers. Well anyways the near by drop zone Skydive San Marcos (I thought at one time was not like this) decided to do promotional weekend and have a low cost one time fee for as many jumps as you can get in a weekend on the same weekend as the Deadman Boogie to take away from the turn out. Skydive San Marcos is a Tandem Factory that will bump you from a load for a tandem in a heartbeat which is understandable its a business right? Hmm? I know that if I were a DZO that owned a DZ close to a smaller DZ I would work with them on special weekends. Yeah on a normal weekend your on your own, but I would NEVER intentionally screw someone like this just because most of the fun jumpers end up at the boogie for the weekend. Talk about hitting someone from behind. I know that I will personally never jump at Skydive San Marcos again! Come on we are all after the same thing Blue Skies, Jumping from planes with good friends and having a good time![/reply woah, try running a large event like SkyFest and watch what happens. uggh, Its a much larger investment up front with all the specialty or ferried AC. Then to have the previous local of SF do their new "Fest" thing. Piggybacking your creation almost to the T. That is much worse than others having an event on a holiday, it should really be expected for other DZ's to do something. You get used to it. Try and focus on your project, keep it unique, positive and good things will happen. If you want it to be unique then do not do it on a holiday. While I defiantly think the DZ's should communicate their events, I believe holidays are fair game, especially for Tandems. When SF was in TX we coordinated with all the DZ's. We even worked out when the Casa may be in town so it would not be in TX just before a major event like SF. They are all great DZ's and DZO's. I think it will work out of for ya. Drink a beer for Jerry for me and have a safe event! J

  21. Jasmine, I cant believe it has been 4 years. Mariann was there for me when my father passed and we did the "Mariann 2-step" together. I have many great memories of her. She is always missed. I also remember when she could not get out of the plane, then upon returning to Dallas to visit again shortly there after, she was all over it! Kicking my butt in the air with her skills. For what its worth, her white jumpsuit, black helmet and one of her yellow containers and parachute practically gets jumped every weekend in GA. Puts a smile on my face every time I see this lady go up with Mariann's gear. Blue Skies J
  22. Built by Bob Chaffin, who my brother and I called Gandpa as kids on the DZ. Stan, my brother was Bob's test jumper at the time of the Apache. I think the only one that was decent was the one Stan jumped. I have a brand new one Billy, 0 jumps, it was made for a Dallas Cowboys Demo jump, sure you don't want to give it a shot? Has the shiny silver fabric that would wear off in time. I mean really, you only had 50 jumps, what the hell did you know? I remember when I found it at Chaffin's loft after he passed away: Stan says" "you can jump it, but don't land it". Will hook it up on a cutaway harness sometime. I think it was a Unit II that I jumped once, took forever to get the end cells open and keep them open. Really wanted to chop but had a round reserve with a 1959 pilot chute, this was in 2004. Won't jump that again.
  23. One sibling made an appearance and he did very well. Probably need to build a harness for him with handles like we did for dad.
  24. Whoo hoo, A photo from the 10th SkyFest event made the front page of the August Issue! Thanks Erin, Mark and Bill! Our banana is still in the Wings ad on page 72, I sure miss that banana! Hope he is doing well in the treetops of NC. Our first cover was a raft dive on the SIM's for 2007 (I think it was that year). Other than them removing the SkyFest written on the front of the raft it was pretty cool! That raft it made it thru 6 or 7 SF before landing in the alligator swamps in Houston, no one would go and get it for us?? Yeah, I may be bragging, but its really the jumpers that did it! Cant believe its been 10 years!
  25. Will you be in charge of the mystery jump ship? Cause the last one kicked my arse.....
