  1. By lifting the attachment point of the lat it can help "lift" or aid in keeping the rig higher on your shoulders. This also helps with wear and tear on the lower back by putting more of the weight on the shoulders. For some it may create a more difficult reach for PC but that is a different story. If one can scratch their armpit they can reach a PC, just have to change the way one reaches. Im 6'1" C19 with a 3" split, love the way it sits higher and rides on my shoulders. Hope that adds a little more info.
  2. This might save you a little search time. A couple of the articles are on DZ.com as well. http://skyfestboogie.com/wing-tips happy shopping
  3. Sort of ironic: 4 or 5 years ago when they were at 6 months and CPS (the new military company at the time) was growing the production was in Z hills with the sport rigs. They moved military production to NC and the sport time went back down. Now they moved everything to NC and they are back up again. I am sure when they get settled back in from the extensive move it will drop again. It is a pretty popular rig.
  4. Yes Maam, SkyFest: June 15-22nd Raeford NC, I expect to see you this year?????
  5. Like a place to park rental cars? Seems kind of like a SF tradition. Dooh! I forgot about that! I'll let Raeford know to have the tractor on hand!
  6. Well we usually have water training scheduled during the event, last year was the first year we did not due to lack of water. We will post a schedule so folks can complete their B during the event. It will usually happen early such as the Mon-Thur time. And I am sure there will be other uses for the pond that will be discovered during the event...
  7. The new site is up and running! Still more work to be done and the data base will be up soon with new features! Check it out! www.starcrestawards.com J
  8. The nice thing about those early cutaways... The canopies we were jumping required that you spotted every load precisely. When you had a cutaway, your main landed near the target! Usually, (if your spot was on) your main landed closer to the target than you?? I've always said (jokingly of course) : "Spot for your free bag, cutaway low".......
  9. Glad you said that, and I think you will agree this about older technology. I tell people all the time: On a 7 cell "square" canopy, if you get the lines, slider and bridle right, it will open. I dont care what you do to the canopy. You may not like the opening but it will open." Many dont believe me, to the point i had a DZO/rigger assemble a new rig for me and when he was ready to pack the main he slid the slider up and then called out my name. From across the packing area on a busy Saturday I turned around to see him with the lines over the shoulder and his arm bent at the elbows rolling the canopy up by rotating his forearms over one another. Like he was doing the "handjive" or something. He yells out " you dont care about what I do with the canopy huh?" I paused, looking at the loose lines everywhere, the ball of crap he was creating, noticing bottom skin, an end cell and the tail together at one point, I said (being cocky). "Nope! Go ahead I'll jump it!" and walk toward him. By the time I got to him I had to push thru the crowd to see what else he was doing, they were mostly young jumpers. I proceeded to inform the newbies to ignore what they are seeing and not to try this at home, that we were not setting a good example. Yet I believe that this will show where this so called "old or basic design wing, is more reliable than the "advanced", or "cool" designs. While I had manifested to do a 4 way I bumped off for a hop N pop instead. I might be stupid or ballsy, but Im not out for self inflicted pain of a hard opening at terminal. A camera man jumping a Velocity wanted to exit with me and film the opening, of course now the whole DZ was gathering to watch. So I began to prepare for the jump, worked out the exit for the two of us, practiced my EM's and even included hook knife removal. While not having any "real" cut away experience, I have done a few test jumps that included canopy "transfers' or releases, I was a little nervous. But I had to do it now, I mean I had to save face so I loaded the plane. As I climb out at 3000' I can see the whole DZ standing in a group looking up to watch. Video was late on exit (unknown to me) and turns out he was still on my back as I was about to release my PC that was in his face. He managed to get off and below in time which got an excellent shot of a slow, on heading, absolutely "perfect" opening. "Ahhh I thought, ya pulled that one off, wheeeh!" Upon landing I was told that the crowd all "boo'd" when it opened, but then said ouch" when they saw/heard the camera man's Velo slam him with 90 off! On a 7 cell square it is very difficult to pack a malfunction, I know this from all the years packing starting when I was 6. I do miss those days! 1200'? Geez Pat, I remember 8 ways breaking off at a 1000.. Well, glad it was 12, you needed that extra 200'! Would of missed all that great artwork!
  10. Whooow hooooo!!! Hope its a good one! Happy Birthday! J
  11. I would probbly agree with you more (not that I really dont already) but my brother works for one of the companies that builds the Nav systems for the gov. Even as an engineer who designs or tests the contracted products, his company announced 300-400 layoffs in his department a month ago. So for now I can only say order more....
  12. im good. yeah I never counted you as an accident, SF had officially started, but you had not registered yet kisses darwin
  13. 05 was your stack Ill never forget it, the downplane was moving so slow, as i looked up I said damn they have room for a third canopy, and as slow as its going it wouldn't go anywhere. 3 seconds later I saw pilot chute and had a cold chill run thru my veins...uggh
  14. Prefers doing a canopy stack by himself Glad to see your back!
  15. But but but i set the event dates whats that worth? I know I know, go back to my hole and keep organizing stuff..LOL So what is that gonna do to my Pitts airspace??? Cant yall start your turns below 1000' anymore, like the ole days.
  16. I was told last month that they thought it might be done before the SkyFest event in June. Not sure if they knew the start date then, I would imagine it would be if they broke ground yesterday?? Sounds like it will be a nice one?
  17. YOur gonna have to settle for one. Well yeah, they said they are between 2 to 3 pounds each....one would be fine
  18. Believe me when I say a lot has happened because of this post so far. Soooooo does that mean my lobster dinner is on its way/ I am actually thinking to overnight some down from Maine for SkyFest for a cool dinner. I have wanted to do that for 3 years now. You can get like, what was it, 35 for under $600.00 if I remember right. They sit on dry ice for 12 or so hours and come out a snapping at ya! Hey, you can cook them for us!!? Just hitch a ride with a Yank and come on down! Oh and I bet we can get a rig to fit you, and I might even know a guy who has the special little tickets that takes you up! Hell all my shit would fit you. See, good things are already happening again. And I get Maine Lobster!! Ok carry on loving life again my friend! or at least fake it well. I think I need sleep...
  19. Not sure if you are still looking. But I believe when we were helping his son Scott organize the loft, I think Riggerlee ended up with the manuals for Bob's stuff. He is on here out of Dallas. He may be out of town for a while but maybe packertom on here could help. good luck J
  20. Well, hmmm.... That is the guy I was thinking of recently, looks like he is on his way back. Thought of you quite a few times, in many ways. Of course always hoping for the best. Wait till you hear the rest of your story, you will absolutely just.....Well you just will. Its ironic that you posted today, between your post and another occurrence today (just a few hours ago) I think we can say that hopefully the final chapter is being written as we speak. Not necessarily easy sometimes, but its part of the "phase" and it will change. I am thrilled man, and look forward to hearing from you! You still owe me a lobster freaking dinner, don't ya think?!! Keep smiling brother, it has powerful affects! Breathe deep and call a friend. I for one think you will do just fine with your journey! J
  21. Just got an email from Bill today. The site should be available again in 2 to 3 days. In all probability it will be a different url and I will post the link when it goes live. I'll post the same information to the SCR thread in the History and Trivia forum as well. Bill is working hard on the issue, the url has changed and there has been a delay in redirecting it. Who know's maybe there will be a new look to it. We have to make sure that one of if not the oldest skydiving tradition continues to stay that way! Oh, I do know that applications are still welcomed and the SCR program is not going anywhere!
  22. Yeah they did it! Oddly enough I have been a Steelers fan since I can remember, born and raised in Dallas though. Next fav team was the Oilers, but they are gone now. Actually met half the Cowboy players back in the 70's, we used the same orthopedic, parents still jumping rounds for part of the 70's. Whoo hoo Steelers!
  23. Come on team kick some cowboys butt!!! Bring it on, where's the curtain?
  24. These might help. be safe and have fun, welcome to the sport! www.skyfestboogie.com/wing-tips
