  11. Been working on an evening event and it has taken a couple months to confirm but I have the answers I wanted!! So I need a name for it, soon! 7 families that have over 40 years in the sport will be passing the microphone Wednesday night of SkyFest 09!! My goal is to create an environment that our youth will have the chance to learn about the good ol'e days. There are many milestones being celebrated that week and it will be a history making evening of its own just to have them all together! We expect more to join as the word gets out. So I need something like: Falling Backwards, Ole Blue Skies, Skies of the Past.........no blast from the past or throwback names please, something original...Any thoughts??? Here is a partial list of attending. Gene Paul Thacker: 77th Birthday(same day as Tiny Broadwick became the first lady of skydiving 96 years ago), also his 40th Skydiving Anniversary and the DZ's 40th Anniversary Bill Booth: 40 years of Skydiving (if I come up with a 16mm projector we will have some footage to view as well) Tony U. of Tony Suits: 30 years in the US, 39 years of skydiving ( a warm up party for him) Bachmans: 49th year of ParaGear (another practice warm up for the big 50) Sherry Schrimsher; 45th year skydiving and 45 years USPA J Schrimsher; 25 years skydiving and 25th USPA Thomas's, Blues, and Verner's are on the list to attend, with more to come! I need a name for this historic event!! So here is the deal: Give me a name that says it all by 1:00 PM tomorrow (my artwork deadline), & if I use it I will buy you a jump at SkyFest!!! (you might have to remind me that I owe you a jump) Come on you eager young minds of DZ.com, help me with my brain lock! Thanks J
  12. Sorry to hear that you are experiencing the "black hole" in our sport. For what its worth, that is exactly why this event was crested www.skyfestboogie.com I know that its not till June, but I can promise you that if you come out and spend some time with us, I guarantee that your skill level will greatly increase. The site will have a ton of updates by next week for 2009, sneak a peak in the history section at 2008 and it will give you some insight to whats coming up. And there will be discounted tunnel time at two different tunnels, maybe one is near you? I know it sounds like a shameless plug, but we built the event because we feel that after AFF we lose our jumpers because they have no one to play with unless they cough up more money!! I hope you can muddle thru the gap and stick with us in the sport, it will be worth it I promise! If you make it to Raeford make sure you stop by the SkyFest booth and introduce yourself, heck I bet I can even someone to organize a load. I better, we have 20 of them there to jump with the new folks! Hope you stick around!
  13. What about Ennis? I think I jumped at an Ennis will have to find my first logbook
  14. QuoteLet's see, in the Dallas / Ft. Worth area alone the following DZs have come and gone since the late 50s: (Old) Grand Prairie Airport (Bobby Crump's place) Pilot Point ?????? Cedar Hill (Crump and Forest McBride) Alvarado (same as above AFAIK) Seagoville (Dallas Parachute Assn.) Jerry & Sherry Schrimsher, then Bob Chaffin Mansfield ("The Limey's" place) Commerce (Forest McBride and ??) Maybe Bob Chaffin or Dennis Dorris Aero Country Hartlee Field (Skydivers of Texas, Jerry Rouillard) Lavon North (Jerry Rouillard's 2nd place) Ennis (Slavo Mulik's place) Forney (Doc Linden's place) Rhome Airport (DZ later moved moved to Decatur) Decatur Airport (Skydive The Metroplex) Aerodrome (John Mitchell's place and the seed for Skydive Dallas). Skydive Texas Ranch (Tom Bishop's place) Gainesville (Forest Mcbride) Eagle Flight (Granbury) Jeff Hughes I think the names are right that I added, will ask about this Blackwater one I keep thinking of.
  15. I didnt see Seagoville out of Kaufman TX, the Dallas Parachute Association where I grew up at on the weekends. Parents jumped at another place prior to Seagoville, think it was called blackwater or something? Would have been early 60's... Good thread....I found a hand drawn map to a place up in lewisville i think, Was dated in the 60's too, Ill see if I can find it. Great stuff! Now can someone get me the logo's to the DZ's too. That would be great!
  16. Ok pics of the pond I took Monday. They are working hard at it. The other photo is looking out the patio door of where I was staying, taken yesterday! 4" of snow. Flew back to TX today. As far as any "extra" activities in this pond, I would have to say, enter at your own risk!!! They have just under $20K invested and the liner can not be patched if torn. So being that Raeford is so close to Ft Bragg, I dont think I would want to find out what sort of "defense" the Thackers might have to keep folks out of the pond!!! Its near Gene Paul's house across the runway as well, so thats another good reason to avoid any "play" in it. But I can say that we worked out some great details for SkyFest there in June! I did not think I could ever get more excited or passionate about this event, but the people at Raeford and local sponsors have brought me to a new level!! This will be one kickass event!! Hope to see you all there!! So Harry, your up, post some pics, it was to cold when I took these and my batteries died so hopefully you have better ones to add!!
  17. Any more info on this? Talked to Paul today, no worries. Business as usual, some changes were made. More Casa's are to be delivered soon! i quote "Business as usual" Paul Fayard All is well!
  18. Will be back in Richardson Friday. Flying back from Raeford. Let me know when ya'll put it together!! j
  19. You have to excuse Dom, he's a newbie! Dooh!
  20. Free is in quotes for a reason. Sounds to me like he will be shopping for a rig either way. If Ralph lets it go, decides to be a "hero" and gives him the rig, then its free. Is it not? Doesnt matter if it is the exact same rig he paid for, if he loses it, he has replacement cost.
  21. Wow! My eyes started hurting after a bit so I may be repeating someone here, but this is what came to mind for me 3 pages ago. Ralph possibly made an error with the handling of the CC upfront. There are different procedures when verifying CC ownership face to face or over the phone. Of course the phone is more difficult and I can say that I bet it happens millions of times a year where a merchant just trusts the voice on the phone, usually if the billing zipcode is correct it will run. I know I have with 20 years in retail sales. Ralphs got 50 years and done it hundreds of times I'm sure.. With Ralphs years of success Im pretty sure the loss was written off in taxes by now. I know the "Dolphin - Tempo -ZP Main" set ups were very good to him. I found myself selling those rigs for many of his customers 8 or 9 years ago. Yes those days are gone and its different now. Times are tough and every potential customer counts. I'd do what my daddy taught me:LOL Every problem is an opportunity, always. The OP may quit skydiving without a rig, thats not good, while its not "ralphs problem" it hurts the industry that supports him. Its also the loss of potentially at least 2 customers hell never have. The OP may turn a friend on to jumping or talk another into buying gear if he is still in the sport. So, Id let the rig go, keep him skydiving. Ask him not to go around telling everyone he was given a "free" rig, lets keep it our secret. Maybe discuss contacting me when he decides to sell it and consider giving me a chance to recover some of my loss thru a resale. Then Shake his hand and ask him to remember to "Pay it Skyward" when he gets the chance. Dont know about ya'll but Id bet it would gain a life time customer and the best form of advertising money "cant buy", ....word of mouth! Heck if I was the OP, I dont care if he told me not to tell anyone, he saved me the cost of another rig, donated to myself and the sport, thats news worthy and deserves a good word put in for him. It happens ya know. Bet the OP's post would have been totaly different, and it might have helped a recent post that was not favorable marketing for a business. But what do I know, I run a boogie and we know it dont make any money. While trying to open up a T shirt/ promotional products company in this industry? someone get a rope.
  22. Well I'll be a.....geez! Yeah man! What no pictures yet? One of the reasons I am flying to Raeford is to walk the property for the layout of SkyFest. Cant trust the Google aerial. And hear you are asking pics from me. By the way, I believe we have met, I keep thinking Sebastian, but at the same time I know I have been to RPC and CSS 3 x's more than sebastian.. Will expect pics by monday, can you include a good aerial as well? Need it to create a map, and landing pattern fliers?? Ill give ya photo credit, lol Be safe
  23. Being I live in Texas ummm NO! LOL But it just so happens that I am flying out there next week for several Event meetings I will get ya hooked up if no one else has by then. Hows that working for ya. LOL J
