  1. Oy. Get good on your belly before you try to freefly. Hell, finish AFF and get your license before you try to do anything. Talk to your instructors about gear. Most containers these days are freefly friendly, so don't worry about that. Talk to other jumpers and see what containers they fly. Rent or demo some canopies to see what you like. Buy a helmet, altimeter, goggles, jumpsuit. Once you're done with the cheap things, if you have any money left, go ahead and buy a rig. But finish your license first. It's a marathon, not a sprint.
  2. When jumping a new aircraft that has a jump run speed higher than what you are used to, you need to adjust, as in, SPOT better. Especially if you're the last ones out and everyone before you were taking their sweet ass time and don't want to end up in a field 1/2 mile away because the winds shifted and you have no penetration and find yourself over a river at 1500 feet. (true story)
  3. We've got a group of 20 going to Sebastian tomorrow until the 19th.
  4. I just sent slickdeals an email alerting them to this nonesense. Don't these Slyride guys get the hint yet? Also, go visit slickdeals.net. Incredible deals scoured from all over the internet, condensed into one awesome site.
  5. Browsing slickdeals.com and saw a link for a Groupon that linked to Sportations.com for cheap tandems. http://slickdeals.net/localdeal/58747/119-for-skydiving-session-from-sportations-up-to-349-value http://www.sportations.com/product_listings.php?typeName=Skydiving&flash=y They are REALLY vague about dropzones. Anyone know anything?
  6. Sweet hypocrisy! This thread is titled about Deland, but easily turned into an "I hate Billy Richards" rant. In case you missed it, that's where this thread went childish and vindictive. Now TK was the one who started talking about things happening at his own DZ, which again brings up criticism of how things are run over there. But it's cool. Blame it on the Ranch people, all four of us who post on dz.com.
  7. Well that's easy. It's aimed at TK and how he's run Zhills for the past three years.
  8. I'd love to know which mod gave you a time-out. I mean, I know that camera flier are anal retentive, but 30 days for asking is a little ridiculous. DZ.com turf must be fiercely defended, at all costs, no matter how big a douchenozzle you need to be to do so.
  9. We have an onsite suite with some space if anyone is looking for a place to crash. We'll be there the 26th through 1/3
  10. Put this in the events forum. Next time, more notice. I've already booked my December trip.
  11. Agreed. I started at 100, did 15 minutes in the tunnel, a week of jumping then another 15 minutes in the tunnel. Feedback and practice FTW
  12. Isn't that a mandatory question for the A-license? You guys really need to go read the SIM if you don't know the fundamental differences between a 7 cell and a 9 cell canopy.
  13. ::sigh:: Have you ever talked to a rigger? How about other skydivers and asked what they did once they got their license. Why would you buy a canopy you've never flown before? Why would you think a Navigator, made specifically to be docile, would be anything like the sport canopies out there. Here's some advice. Finish your license. Rent a rig for 20 jumps and try different canopies. Then decide what you like and what you want to buy.
  14. +1 for Randy. He is incredibly helpful, perhaps the best asset the USPA has at the moment.
  15. But this isn't the army. I don't think it needs to be re-written, but an addendum with examples to elucidate points would be helpful, instead of referencing the FARs.
  16. If you read all the posts above (including mine) you'd know that you'll need a little bit of self-control since the largest G2 you can buy right now is a Large. You'll need to wait till December (planned availability date) to get an XL or XXL ... Not true. You have to wait for XL or XXL visor. The shells are all done.
  17. Do a search on Shah's posts. I only look at them for the entertainment value. The kid is all talk, no jump.
  18. PM sent Carpool list isn't really active
  19. Holy crap! A useful suggestion! Maybe low-time jumpers wouldn't brush off experienced jumpers if they were presented with actual steps towards flying a camera rather than the repetitive "you need 200 jumps" mantra that pervades nearly every single GoPro thread.
  20. A while ago I cracked the housing on my Altitrack. It was a little crack that got worse and worse until the crack went all the way through. On my ride to altitude halfway through the day, I realized that the clear faceplate had come off! I pushed the needle and it moved whereever I put it. The ride down was uneventful, and I recalibrated the needle under canopy by looking at the digital readout on the underside of the altitrack. So I sent an email asking to buy a replacement faceplate so I could fix it. They said to send the alti off to them and they'd fix it. Two weeks later (today), I get a brand new Altitrack! They even transferred all my jump data. Fantastic work guys!
  21. Talk to Ash too. He got stuck in Figi and has been jumping there for the last two days.
