  1. From now on, as a part of your self gear check, make sure your jumpsuit is zipped all the way up.
  2. At least $2k for instruction, then some more on the gear.
  3. Definitely keep those legs OUT. If you want to move forward, straighten those legs and bring them together. To really get moving, bring your hands from around your head down towards your hips, always palm down. It's a sweeping motion, like wax-on wax-off. And remember, unless you are jumping with someone else and trying to get closer or farther away, you're not going to be able to really tell how you're moving without a reference point.
  4. I always found it easier to trace the river to the island and look for the ballfields, then trace that to 44/55.
  5. Am I the only one who thought that was a really funny read? You'll get it next time. 1000ft start the run, 500ft turn, 250 turn and look 45 degrees in front of you.
  6. I did my first static jumps at Ricks like 8 years ago. Is he still giving out the CDs of him singing?
  7. you know the biggest danger for thos who get their A lcense is overconfidence right? you know that student rigs are cut for stability and safety, right? go to a pro shop, rent some gear and find out what will work best for you in a performace chute before yougo and buy anything. better to really know what you need than having to sell your chute because you crashed out too many times and realized it was more than you can handle
  8. Yeah mang...if it doesn't look good, you have no commitment to jump. I'm getting better at spotting and the first one that I did on my own last weekend, it looked dicey, just a bit farther than I wanted to jump from. But I went anyway and managed to make it back without a problem. There were some other student solos behind me and all the tandems. Once I get down, I find out that after I jumped that they did a 180 and another jump run. I was talking to my instructor on the ground and she made it very clear that if you don't feel it's a good spot, you tell the pilot to turn around, or you let the people in front of you go first and then you turn it around. I guess the point is that if it doesn't feel right for you, then don't do it.
  9. Just a question about lying on your back in a belly-to-earth type of dive. After my exits I flip onto my back for a few seconds and watch the plane fly away, but I always spin slowly to my right. I'm obviously not even in my reverse arch, so what can I do to counteract this? I guess dropping my left arm a bit would put some counter resistance, but would doing something like a toe tap to even out my legs even work? Thanks!
  10. My first 4 jumps I had too much anxiety to really enjoy the adrenaline. It's gets more manageable the more you do.
