  1. I heard a variant of that story. After the Russians (Soviets at the time) were taken, the heads of a couple mid-level Hezb were delivered to Hezb HQ. The Sovs were released unharmed and no more were kidnapped. The US had a half dozen kidnapped, including the Beruit CIA chief of station, William Buckley, who was tortured to death. Did anybody else notice that the link in the OP was dated May, 2010? This isn't new, although I hadn't heard of it before. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 2. Not really. Recreational radio control is limited to less than 400' altitude, and must remain in sight of the operator. Size doesn't matter. It woudn't take a very big R/C plane to take out a light aircraft (the windshields aren't armored). Commercial operation of radio controlled aircraft is also currently prohibited (stuff like R/C aerial photography). There are certain exceptions, mainly military, but this is a civilain operation in airspace open to the public. I'd like to know what kind of exception these guys are operating under. It may have been a "one time" deal for the demonstration. It also may have followed the rules (staying under 400' and within sight) and just have been a demonstration of the capabilities of the aircraft and it's systems. 3. My apologies. Snowmman found most of the other stuff (especially from SE Asia), and I took the guess that it was him. I don't think Snowmman got perma-banned for being rude. I think it was because he kept getting around the ban by using new names, then making it very clear that it was him doing so. Quade has tons of patience, but it only goes so far. 4. Not really. One of the attorneys (Andy908 most likely) would have the best info, but if it can be seen from the street (or air) then it isn't private. They use thermal imaging cameras to locate grow operations, They can "see" the heat from the grow lights and can use that info for a search warrant. I'd like to know how they get around the FAA rules on unmanned aircraft. The rules on that are pretty strict. Having one of those in the same airspace as "regular" aircraft has a lot of potential for disaster. Can you imagine the backlash if one of those has a midair? 5. Well, maybe it is if you really, really like the word "Penis". I like THIS version of "Oh Holy Night" a lot better. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  6. Link. I saw it while watching the football (well, hand-egg) game too. It looks like the weight pushed the dome down, then the snow fell into the dip, overloaded and tore the roof. Wow. That isn't going to be cheap to fix. Although I bet there are one or two on here who have the skills and equipment to sew it "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 7. Yes. You need 2 cutters for rigs with 2 reserve pins. The Racer is the only 2-pin rig that I can think of off the top of my head. I'm sure that someone will add in any others that are out there. 8. The "Asia Connection" is a series of test jumps done out of the back of a 727. Snowmman found the video and posted it a while back. During the highjack, there was a good bit of discussion among the airline people and the FBI about whether or not it was possible to actually jump from a 727 in flight. The test jumps weren't widely known at the time of the highjacking, and the presumption has been put forward that Cooper was in SE Asia and knew about the tests. Cooper had also asked for the airstairs to be lowered before takeoff and was told it wasn't possible. This was later disproved when one of the last flights out of Da Nang did just that (that video is on here too). Again, his knowledge of the 727 was more extensive than the airlines and the FBI. Or he was just guessing and got this stuff right purely by chance. If you were able to find a $20 that came from the highjack money, you would have solid proof that you had a connection. As long as it wasn't counterfeit, that's evidence that couldn't be fabricated. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 9. It's your country, your government can decide who to let in and who not to. Personally, I find Jones to be moderately annoying. He seems to be offensive just to be so. He is more interested in the attention his behavior generates rather than actually changing anything. BUT - I am a firm believer in freedom of speech and freedom of assembly. His actions here in the US are clearly "Protected Speech" (including his plan to burn the Koran). I believe any attempt to muzzle or silence him is far, far more dangerous than anything he could possibly say (not including incitement to riot, which is not protected speech). 10. Deflated is probably a better term. It's more or less a giant inflatable "Bouncy thing", without the bouncy part. With 17" of snow on top, it was just too much weight for the pressure differential to support. I think it is heated (the roof, not just the inside), although I could be wrong. We are just getting too much snow for much of anything to keep up. (I'm about 300 mi east of there and we are getting hammered). "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 11. $200 seems to be the cost of the lofts I looked at (Google Cypres 4 year inspection cost). Shipping is easy, you use the box it originally came in. If that wasn't included with your rig (it was with mine) someone should have one sitting around. No special care that I know of, the cutters are pretty safe. 12. White guy: I was born a black man in Mississippi... \And here YOU DO what you post you despise Do as I say? Oki Great post says a bunch WAFJ Amazon pulled that shit on me too Was easy to prove her wrong you just pick something and you know they are lies impressive Context: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3Vp9fQ616k Every year when the Phone Books appear on my front porch I have to restrain myself from running around while waving one over my head and yelling "THE NEW PHONE BOOKS ARE HERE, THE NEW PHONE BOOKS ARE HERE" "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 13. The bastards! No, they have toy AKs. I saw some pretty nice ones (they even had transparent magazines and shiny brass "ammunition") at a Love's Truck Stop last week. They had them on the sale flier posted in the stores, but they aren't on the website (I was going to link it, but Oh, Well) "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 14. Check your harness rings for any pitting, chipping of the plating or other rough surfaces. I kinda doubt you'll find any, but you can check to be sure. If there was a rough surface, it wouldn't squeak, it would "grind". The nylon is just rubbing on the rings and squeaking. It shouldn't be a problem. Now, has anybody seen the key to the hydraulic lock?? "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  15. I would guess he could surrender if he chose to. All he has to do is call up the media, and show up at an American Embassy willing to surrender peacefully. But I don't see that happening. He has made a public call for his followers (and there are a lot of those) to kill any Americans. He has been linked (although not proven or convicted of anything) to both the "Underwear Bomber" and the Ft Hood shootings. I would agree that he represents a pretty clear danger to the US. As long as he is in a foreign country, calling for and participating in attacks against the US, he's going to be a target. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 16. I'm not a big fan of him wearing it. The right to wear that sort of insignia is earned, not granted. But if the operators who gave it to him are okay with it, then I'm not dumb enough to get into a fight with them Anybody that sees him wearing it and who thinks he earned it is a moron. If he really wants to honor the guys who gave it to him, he should have an "Honor Box" made. It's a display case, with a glass top. The "Budweiser", the rank insignia, medals/ribbons won, the (dress) nametag of the guy he's honoring, and maybe a picture of him. Usually the NOK gets the flag from the coffin, that often goes in too (Honor Boxes can be fairly large under certain circumstances). If Beck displayed that in a prominent place on his set, instead of wearing the insignia, it would be clear who he was honoring, and it would be clear that it wasn't for his own self-promotion. 17. That's under FAA regs. The article says he was prosecuted by the county prosecutor's office, and another article I found says he was in municipal court, so logically that would mean he violated either a state statute and/or a local ordinance. Anyhow, I'll bet he feels like an asswipe. The article in the OP said "over a populated area." The FAA is pretty strict on doing stuff over populated areas (or over open air assemblies of people). It sounds/looks like the "authorities" decided they had to charge him with something, and he decided that it wasn't worth the time and effort to fight it. The article says probation and a letter of apology (dear soccer moms, I'm sorry throwing toilet paper at you scared you so badly you had to call the cops. I won't do it again), but no mention of any fine or other punishements. I can see that if he chose to fight it he'd probably be acquitted, because he really didn't put anyone or anything at risk. But that would involve court and lawyers, and a lot of time and money. Does anyone else remember the Golden Knights doing demo practice with smoke, and having some idiot call the cops? This was right after the Sept 11 attacks and the moron thought the smoke was anthrax "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 18. I don't agree with that. I routinely put my T-stat at 50 when I'm gone for more than a couple days. When I get back, I put it right to 64 (nomal daytime setting). I have an oil-burner, and when I go from 50 to 64 it will fire up, run for a while, the burner will shut down while the fan keeps going (normal). But before the fan shuts down, the burner usually kicks back on due to the walls, furniture and everything else being cold. It probably takes about 6-8 hours for everything to completely warm back up (getting into a bed with 2 blankets and a down comforter isn't a whole lot of fun, inuslation works both ways), but I burn considerable less fuel than I would if I left it up all the time I am gone. I've neglected to turn it down a couple times and the difference is pretty significant. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 19. Getting the power turned off and then back on is far more of a hassle than it's worth. Unless he is just planning on turning off the main switch, in which case he will still be paying the "service" charges (which are about 1/2 the bill anyway). Unless it gets well below freezing, the chances of pipes freezing and bursting is low, but not zero. The cost associated with burst pipes due to freezing is astronomical, especially if nobody is home to catch it right away. Unplug everything (make sure there isn't anything in the fridge or freezer) and set the thermostat as low as it will go (that's usually about 50). If the apartment is part of a larger complex, the heat from the surrounding apartments will help keep his warm and reduce the heating costs to practically zero. 20. All year long. And you don't need a hunting license, but you'd best have a driver's license. Here in WI, you can get a tag for any deer you hit and legally keep it. You just have to file the accident report and ask for the tag. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 22. Upper left, there should be a "button' marked "Add Profile Picture". Like amstadler said, it's right above the "My Stuff" menu. If you have disabled that (and the left side ads) you may have to re-enable it to load the profile pic. Edit to add: I just messed around with my settings, and the "Profile Pic" button doesn't depend on the "My Stuff" menu being there or not. 23. Ok, I'm confused. Are you saying we should stop treating people different than us like subhumans so that they won't take advantage of any opportunity to get back at us? Or are you saying that the people we treat like shit should never be given any chances at any responsibility because they will take advantage of those opportunities to have their revenge? 24. '79 is when the Shah departed from leadership. And many considered him to be just an American puppet. So are you saying that things were much better in Iran when America had influence with the leadership? As with so many "American Puppets", the Shah's government was rather repressive. Think Nicaragua under Somoza, Cuba under Batista, Panama under both Trujillo (sp?) and Noriega, and many, many, many others over the years. But the governments that took over after the revolutions that toppled the "American Puppets" were often far more repressive and authoritarian than the ones they replaced. Again, think Nicaragua under Ortega or Cuba under Castro. This isn't often acknowledged by the anti-Americans who see anyone replacing the "American Puppet" as a saint. The Shah's regime was corrupt, repressive, dictatortial, and a bureaucratic quagmire. But it often appeared to be progressive and modern, especially with it's treatment of women. Especially compared to the other countries in that region. The current theocracy is everything the Shah was, with the addition of strict adherence to Shi'a religious laws. Except that the interpretation says that those in power are "Allah's chosen" and any dissent is an affront to Allah. Funny how it works that way, isn't it? 25. While I can't speak of the practicalities of it, you seem to be approaching it realistically. Having a good sum of money that will be available "when the money runs out" is a great long term fall-back plan. Don't forget there are US territories in the South Pacific. Guam and the Marianas. Saipan is supposed to be reasonably decent. Central America (specifically Costa Rica) issupposed to be pretty good too. I know a couple guys up here who are considering purchasing property down there. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit."
