  3. Hi All Just wondering if people could put up a post as to where there will be some CRW camps, boogies and record attempts for 2016. Even CRW friendly DZ's that don't mind newer Dawgs coming out for any level of Canopy Formation jumps. Apart from the Spring Fling and the Dink Dink, I would like to see a few more possibilties on both sides of the Border ! Cheer's
  4. Watch the Raw Dogs facebook page. They are doing alot of CRW in the midwest. I just did a camp in Michigan and it was an awesome experience. They have Canopies of all sizes, so if you do not have a Lightning yourself there is a Great chance they can hook you up for the weekend at a DZ near you ! They ran a top-notch camp with some great coaches ! I got all the way up to a 4 Stack, and am hooked !
  5. Hey Puppy Who did the lines for you? I am in the same situation and need a set made up for my Tri 160. I am also needing a set of Risers , so need to know any recommendations for Risers to be used in CRW.
  6. Glad I decided to check his name, as I just recieved an e-mail from him! He claims the same things! I thought Paypal was a secure way to recieve payments for items? Cheer's
  7. I am planning on using a Talon for CRW. I jump a TearDrop regularly and don't feel that it is wise to also use for CRW. Hopefully I will be set up for the Darkside by September.
  8. Up here in Ontario we have already experienced -20 Celcius at Altitude and Ice Pellets. Gloves are always a discussion around the DZ. I have about 6 differant types of Gloves and keep looking for more. You try a pair out and discover what characteristics are good and which are not in the Cold Temps. Some seem good on the ground, but become more slippery when they are colder at Altitude. I have a Neoprene pair as well. They are exstremely warm , but they make your Hand sweat if you keep them on during the climb and it takes along time for them to dry out. So sometimes they may only be good for 1 or 2 jumps before they are to wet and Cold to wear comfortably. Having Grip at the Fingers is very important for hanging onto a Wingstrut or Climbout Bars of larger Aircraft. You will not fel like you are losing grip.It may also help with your Grip on the Hackey at pull time, and your Handles at a Crucial time when EP's are needed. Some of the Mechanic Gloves do quite well and have thinsulate. Whichever gloves you cose to use always pratice your EP's several Times with them on before climbing onto a Plane and on the way to Altitude.
  9. Congratulations to all the jumpers, pilots and organizers of the recent 102 way at Nouvel Air in Quebec. Record was set Friday July 13 2012 at 13:30 .
  10. My first Freefall(S/L progression) was to be 5 secs from 4000'. I pulled at about 10 secs according to the JM. I told him my count was 5, but I didn't rush my count because that was what he told me"don't rush it". Needless to say I failed because I was on my back!
  11. A packing endorsement is required by the CSPA in order to get your "A" Licence in Canada. At my home DZ they offer a Packing Course that cost about 60-65 dollars. It involves doing 10 supervised Pack Jobs with a "Mess test "on the 11th unsupervised. Supervised packs have 5 check points where a RA,JM,SSI or C2 must check before moving on to the next step. Alot of People take the course as they will be packers for the DZ and earn money for jumping.
  12. Just a sidenote, that the Tandem Passenger did struggle to lift her legs. The TM was trying to aid her to no avail. She is still extremely happy with her Skydive and does not lay any blame on the TM. HER QUOTE was " I thoroughly enjoyed the Skydive, but need to work on my Landings!" She also raised $40,000.00 for her Charity (Lou Gehrigs Disease) or ALS! A remarkably strong spirited and happy 70+ year old!
  13. The RSL was not adjusted properly ,leaving no slack in the RSL Lanard(should have been a loop of slack at each end). Because they are attached with Velcro to the main Riser the stretch of the Main Riser pulled the Pin on the RSL.
  14. Mine was on my 37th Jump, on a Rental 260. The reserve was about the same size. The main deployed fine on a 4000 ft Hop and Pop, but the RSL snagged and fired the Reserve as the main fully opened. I was just a big Wind Drift and luckily it landed me on the DZ account a good Spot! I unstowed the Toggles after the Reserve settled behind the Main and made only minor adjustments to keep myself faced into the wind, thus hoping to avoid a Downplane. My instructions from the FJC came right back to me in a matter of seconds! It was the defining moment inwhich I actually felt like a True Skydiver after landing and couldn't wipe the Shit - eating Grin off my Face for a couple of Days! Cheer's
  15. Hockey is in Periods, 3 for a standard game , plus overtime!
  16. I did a complete Distal Rupture last fall. I elected not to have surgery due to the timeoff work and lack of sufficient funds to keep my house and Bills in order. I weighed the options carefully and thought that this was best for me. Depending on your age and income situation , Surgery may be the best option! The Doctor told me if I was 5 years older than he probably would not give me the option and just said get on with your life. It is said to be a common injury of " Middle - Aged Men", which I found more painful, as I didn't realizeI was middle - aged! I don't lift major amounts of Weight in a "curling" fashion so I haven't noticed a great lose in strength that way, but I have noticed that my arm Tires quicker than before when doing tasks as Raking or Swinging a Hammer. My grip seems okay and I do alot of Ladder Climbing and hanging on with one hand at work. It is not painful either, as Tendon has no Nerves! After the first week there was little or no pain except in the area where the Tendon became dettached off the Bone. It is a big decision to make , and you will half to think what is best for you in the Long Run! Good Luck ,hope you Heal Well! Cheer's Garth
  17. Thanks to all that have replied. I don't know much on Prop Wash other than if you are standing behind a Harvard you may loose your footing as well as your Hat! I am all for Green Energy and I am active Environmentally. Sometimes us with Good intentions on protecting the Planet should have to think twice before we cause an adverse effect on others.I was all for these Turbines before I started hearing about the effects of how far the Wash could Travel and the possible effect on Canopies as well as Jump Planes. Hopefully this will be resolved quickly and effectively. Once again thanks for your input it has been Helpful and I will try keep you informed on the Outcome! Cheer's Garth
  18. Hello All; I am new here and have only 10 Jumps sofar on my Student Progression. I was wondering though if any Dropzones out there have had to Deal with Wind Turbines near their DZ's. I ask this because they are thinking of putting a Wind Farm 4000' from my home DZ. The Turbulance that these can put out, potentially can be Hazerdous to Parchutists. Not to mention the Jump Planes Taking off and Landing. Yes we all like the Idea of Renwable and Clean Energy, but it shouldn't risk peoples Lives Any first hand knowledge on this would be Greatly Appreciated. Cheer's Garth
