  5. Just Posted, but ive finished up, so ill post what i learned. First of all, my primary focus in AFF was doing exactly what i was taught, how i was taught. i must have gone through every drill on the ground 100 times, i must have touched my hackie like 10000 times already, and gone through the dive plan in my head like 50 times per jump. I asked a bunch of questions, and made a mental note to remember every step of the dive. If i was doing something that i didn't think i completed very well i would repeat if altitude permitted. (Of course after talking with my instructor about it.) This was mainly starting off with practice touches, because for some reason i didn't think i was doing them very well but after doing a few extras after completing the dive plan, i asked my instructor on the ground and he said i did great. i talked to my instructor about this on the ground) Basically i took it like it was a Class and did my best to be prepared for what i had to do. I also did a tunnel camp which helped tremendously. That said i completed AFF in 6 jumps. Just listen to what your instructors have to say and ask questions. Watch and listen. take in all you can... and have fun :)
  6. I guess i got lucky ending up where i did. I jump at Raeford and drive a reasonable distance to get there. Everytime i show up Tony is quick to say whats up and i get my name on my list. Ive never had to wait more then an hour to get with an instructor (aside from weather holds) When i was in AFF i asked one day before i left which day the next weekend would be the best to come for some jumps and he told me he will always make room for AFF students. Hell I was there on a sunday at noon for 3 AFF jumps and it was SLAMMED with at least 2 tandems w/video every load and 2 more waiting on the ground. I got all 3 jumps in with a detailed de-brief after every jump. (one of which was with 2 instructors) that said... i'm happy where im at, and have no desire to go anywhere else. so, if you get to Fustrated, Hop a ride to Raeford, i'm sure they will learn ya!
  7. Come to Raeford! its about an hour and 15-30 minutes from raleigh. (im from apex)
  8. :2:2 made my final AFF jump (completed in 6 levels!) And then had my first Solo jump!! someone please tell me if i did the numbers wrong
  9. Funny thing is that after my parents split up after 20 years, (of all the same appliances since 86) the damned dish washer kicked the bucket like not even 3 days later. "damnit for me"
  10. unc got screwed. im still to pissed to talk about it
  11. Whistles "cricket cricket" :D
  12. Get your battery tested first. check your cables also for corrosion and loose connections. Batteries going bad will do all kinds of crazy stuff. ive seen an Acura MDX start cycling the radio on and off at varying volumes for 10-15 random minutes a day. (im an ASE master tech and work for an Acura dealership :D) Fusible links will kill all power, its designed to kill a dead short from the alternator, preventing fires and meltage of wires. How mechanically inclined are you? If you know how to work a voltmeter, put the leads on the positive and negative terminals, start the truck watch to see if the voltage goes above 14.6ish. if it does go higher then 14.6ish (will probley hit 17 volts or so) then if your truck has an external voltage regulator (one you can take off) id replace that. if not, you will have to replace the whole alternator. -Kevin
  13. looks to me like its an hour show on the history channel (i just checked the guide) haha. but yea, starting at 8 est
  14. Thanks for the replies guys! I fully plan on asking a good number of questions, i was just looking for some outside input. The thing that gets me is that after watching the video, and riding around in the tunnel, with my legs as they were, i was stable, wasn't moving around, could go forwards, backwards, ect... just couldn't figure out why we switched positions, haha. was so caught up in learning about it, forgot to ask why. After going to that position i got stable and actually found it easier to go up down left and right. but either way. i plan on asking away this weekend. thanks for the input! -K
  15. Well, ive done 2 tandems, my FJC and AFF1 now. Recently i just went to a tunnel camp and had a great time, learned alot, and met some pretty cool people. At the tunnel camp i struggled with arm position for a while, i could keep stable (from what i was told and from what i could tell) but it just wasn't right. I got lost during the last 3-4 minutes in the tunnel because my instructor/tunnel guy had me change my arm position from the standard W above your head to something like holding a beach ball in front of my face, seeing its hard to talk in there, i had no clue what was going on, didnt know what it was for, (going up down, left of right) or even what we were trying to do seeing we went off the plan. (still no problem, i learned alot from it), so i just kinda went with it. on the last go around i finally figured out that it was basically a different way of staying stable, and that everything can be done in that position, (turns, up and down, ect) just different ways to do it (if that makes sense) my problem is that i only really got 30 seconds of time to maintain stability and go up and down once before time was up. Now my concern is that this is a completely new thing to me, and ill be going on my AFF2 this weekend with little to no knowledge about this position and my tunnel camp instructor was also my AFF1 instructor and said that we would be jumping like this on my 2nd jump. so... i trust completely in what was said, just a little concerned with whats going to happen. during the jump and most of all during pull time, i don't want to induce a mal. from trying to pull from this position and rolling over. Now that being said, im in no way shape or form bashing the instructors. they were great and did and excellent job putting it on! This was just something that was discovered at a time with no real way to communicate, and after thinking about it left me with a few questions that i will address with my instructor this weekend, just looking for some outside input at the moment. thanks again guys! -K
  16. and listened on the radio coming in, i knew what i needed to do if something happened to the radio, but it was nice to have someone helping the first time out. I think biggest thing is to just relax and no the plan
  17. Riding with HIGH Main mean on is considered rude where I ride. Dipped main beam should be sufficient. Riding with your high beams on is a poor replacement for defensive riding, a hazard to other motorists, and as Shrop stated, just plain rude! If that's what it takes for a rider to feel 'safe' when sharing the road with others, I sure hope I'm not out there with you. Blinding everyone opposing you on the roadway in the name of 'your' safety comes across as quite selfish. Good luck out there. BASE359 Its how i was taught to ride, and have always done so. (IMO) but i use every bit of help i can take. i turn it down to low beams at night, but i make an effort to make sure that the vehicle approaching sees me do that, just to make them aware.
  18. Random, and im not a doctor by any means, but do you still have your wisdom teeth? A friend of mine had the same deal and after over a year of them, finally someone said "lets take out your wisdom teeth, so they did. migraines no more!
  19. those temps are normal, i usually dont like to let them get over 210ish or so, just because its an aluminum block and head, usually if i see myself getting ready to sit in traffic or something, ill just turn the bike off. my 05 R1 would get to about 210 idling even in the dead of winter, never really noticed much change from that. saw it hit 220 once, but that was on a 110 degree day. The wetter water stuff works, but im not a fan of it. Its decent, and im not sure how it goes on motorcycles, but after working on cars every day ive seen alot of additives do lots of strange things to cars. (clog heater cores, radiators, t-stats, idle air motors, water pumps, ect...) so im a pretty firm believer in just using what the manufacturer puts in there from the factory. Again, im not sure on bikes, all my bikes have had warranty's, so i never messed with them aside from performance stuff. Good luck with the bike. There LOADS of fun, but remember that just because you see someone else doesn't mean they see you. i ride with my high beam on the daytime for that reason. (idk if you have ridden before) i had to give up my bikes, GF and lack of right hand control :D. be safe and enjoy bud -Kevin
  20. im still very new, but i think its the arch, an instructor at the wind tunnel showed me a few things and stretches that have helped. i actually spend about 10 minutes a night on the adumen practicing the arch. mainly for muscle memory, but also for stretching purposes. ive been doing his stretches and they seem to help alot. Another crappy spot is that i work on cars, so im in the exact opposite position all day working under a hood, so stretching really seems to help
  21. PM sent and let me know what i can do to help! -Kevin
  22. Im still new here but i was waiting for someone to say t his. I struggled in school to make it through, but damn was it worth it. Are you good at anything, (like do you have a trade?) Ive loved cars all my life and after graduating high school (i assume you did that) decided to goto school for it. I was in the performance industry for a good while before the school which gave me a heads up into what i was looking at, and that helped alot. but i just puckered down, spent my 2 years in school, did very well there, and then moved on with life. i got a good job here in Raleigh and im now 21 making 60-70K a year. I'm lucky by all means to end up where im at. Find some other hobbies to occupy your time. i know what its like to eat sleep and bleed something. i was heavy into Crotch rockets for a while. quickly learned that going all into something isnt the way to go. Dont get me wrong, i LOVE Skydiving, but someone that has few a jumps as you and has no real world experience, id recommend getting some shoes on your feet and then going from there. Another word of advice is to find a non weather dependent hobby, haha. like poker, pool, going to the gym or video games (like you said) because there is no one more miserable then a person with nothing todo on a rainy saturday. Eitherway, good luck with whatever you choose. as i said. id say get your ass in school and find a good paying job. hell, most schools even have offers for internships that pay pretty damn decent. good luck man -K
  23. this is sad news. im glad i got to do my first 2 jumps there not to long ago... it is a great place! -K
