  1. I disagree, you shouldn't add foreign equipment until they have been able to confidently do it on their own. Under your logic you might as well throw a camera on their head to I don't see the correlation ... one is a safety issue, the other not. both are safety issues I don't often hear of lines snagging on booties ... how are they a safety issue? 4. ok folks ... I still don't have anything totally definite, but looking like it's going to be more in the tradition of Aggieland ... a 206 and Todd's 182 ... 9 ways here we come!! If you're planning to come, please use the link to the FB page and confirm so I have a rough count on how many to expect for dinner ... :) As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  5. and all this time, I thought you've been hanging around skydivers half of forever ... LOL!! see first response see first response 2 more times ... That one might not fly too well with his wife, who skydives so is at the dz ... For my contribution ... Nate, you forgot a nice built in smoker! Edit to add ... if you're going to let JR, et al bring rifles, we'll also need a gun safe for post beer light lockup! Don't want any more fires endangered by bullets ... 8. It's not packing for the first time that's so bad ... it's JUMPING your own pack job for the first time that can really tight up those sphincter muscles ... As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?

  10. Chuck ... as you know, I'm ignorant about such ... roughly what would it likely take in terms of jumpers/jumps/loads to cover costs? I sure wouldn't want or expect Todd to risk being out anything to bring in a turbine, but it would be nice if everyone who wants to is able to jump. To be honest, I was thinking more in terms of a 2nd 182 or maybe a 206. I know it's the weekend still, so people haven't responded, but so far I don't know of enough confirmed showing up to do it. I think that would probably change if we were able to announce that a plane will be there if the jumpers are. As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  11. PARTY TIME!! ... ok folks ... it's "official" ... Come help us say goodbye to Skydive Aggieland, and thank Todd, Kathy, and staff for their efforts ... saturday, Nov. 20th. Mark is going to help me fix dinner, main course my etoufee (will be a few $/head ... just enough to cover costs). I would like for everyone who plans to have dinner to PLEASE let me know so I have some clue how many to be ready to feed! Help me spread the word ... let's do this up right! 12. Todd is our Gulf Region Director, so I imagine he's at least spoken to those folks. OK ... they WILL be operating on the 20th, so let's all get up there and give them a good sendoff party saturday night!! If anyone has access to additional lift capacity, please consider working on it, since a single 182 isn't going to get a lot of jumps done, and there may be tandems that need to get taken care of as well! I'm planning to get up there that friday (19th) if possible ... Also ... keep those cards and letters coming (so to speak!) ... send comments to the mayor and city council at: [email protected] As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  13. I think you hit the nail on the head with respect to Easterwood ... COLLEGE STATION ... not Bryan. It seems to me Bryan is having delusions of grandeur (or else whoever owns the property they'd need to extend the runway has connections)! Dave ... not really clear in the note from Todd ... will they be operating the 20th, or will the 19th be the last jump day? I'd like to try to get something together. 14. What you think happened may not be what really occurred. Instead of giving advice to a more experienced person, one possibility is to approach them with a question about whatever it is, stating what you believe you saw, and asking if (insert your advice here) might have been a way to go about it. Hopefully they'll discuss with you what they saw taking place, and go over the viability of your take with you as well. At almost 300 jumps, I still somtimes watch video of a jump I'm on which shows me that my perception of something that took place isn't always what actually happened ... LOL! As for the title of your post ... aside from attempting an honest self eval, what I like to do in order to get a realistic idea of my own performance is to ask a few people whose opinions I value and I jump with frequently to tell me what they think I need to work on. Of course, I get different answers from the different folks, but it sure helps me have a better feel for how I'm really doing and what I most need to improve at the given point in time. You just have to be clear that you aren't fishing for compliments and would like them to give you their honest opinion, and most seem more than willing to help. Sometimes it will be stuff you already know you need to address, and sometimes it will be something that you hadn't noticed or just had not occurred to you. 15. I think that's pretty accurate overall ... as to a 3rd party? I agree that you couldn't just pull some of those items from both to a third ... would require subdivision. The tea partiers that I know personally don't seem to have a clue what they DO want. They are only good at telling me what they don't like, without providing any reasonable, responsible alternatives. I agree with those who think it won't last, at least not unless someone steps up to the plate and actually outlines some functional solutions for them to rally behind. 16. Had to laugh out loud at that one ... really! One option that takes place where I usually jump, with one of the organizers, is that he will make the call on that. I haven't ever heard it discussed, he just does it ... if someone is low, he looks and makes a quick assessment, and will either continue with the dive minus one, or motion everyone to give chase to the low person. I'm sure he considers who, how far down, skill level of others on the jump, etc. in that decision. As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  17. Thanks Sparky. It looks like only the 2 "standard" sizes are discussed in there. I emailed Sunpath to see if they had any info, but the person I got in contact with there thinks they get theirs from Paragear, who sells Keener bands. SO ... next step was Square 1 ... their website doesn't list specs on their bands, so have emailed them. I'll let y'all know if I have any luck. 19. Far left adopted?? ... Both sides have been doing it as long as I've been old enough to vote, and I'm 55 now. It's their best way to dodge actually addressing the issues that they SHOULD be talking about. Our esteemed (and I use that very sarcastically) governor here in Texas took it to new heights this time around, and he still won in spite of trying to push through the most unpopular single item I can ever remember down here (The Trans-Texas corridor) during his present term. The lack of sense of the voting populace long ago ceased to amaze me. As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  20. I was wondering if you were going to have to stop the tandems, and I'm sure someone will have an answer for you on that. The REAL question now though, is how are you gonna pick up chicks since you won't be able to use that "let me strap you on the front of me and throw you out of an airplane" line?? ... 21. I may have to check out that route, but figured that since I have some in hand, I know SOMEONE makes them ... thought that would be the best way to go if possible. I was hoping someone on here had seen 'em ... especially since they showed up in what seems like a Sunpath promo packet. If I do end up going that direction, it may be more difficult than you'd think. The person I've been in touch with at Keener seems to think that for us to use them on our rigs, they need to be "certified" by a parachute manufacturer (from his email), and he suggested I contact the PIA! 22. As mentioned in my original post ... I've been in contact with Keener ... nada. As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  23. No ... definitely not cut in half. That would reduce the width dimension, and they are the same as the "standard" in that direction. Standard small is listed as 1-1/4 x 3/8 x .062 ... it's the .062 dimension (thickness) that is slightly smaller, in addition to being 1 inch instead of 1 1/4. Here is a pic ... the one on the right is the one I'd like to find more of, the left is the "standard" small band: http://www.coastalfishing.org/pictures/bands.jpg Elisha - Not a tube stow ... definitely a band. Raceface - very similar package (mine didn't have the Sunpath logo), and come to think of it there was a closing loop in it initially, but that got robbed out of there long ago. Those bands all appear to be the same thickness, so even if the length is the same, they're not quite the ones I got hold of. I like the fact that they're a tiny bit thinner because even with the tiny band, it's still pretty easy to loop them thru to hook onto the D-bag. jdathome - you're right ... hard to tell anything from their pic, and I couldn't get it to give me any info about them. Thanks for the input folks! As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  24. Somewhere along the way I picked up a small plastic packet at a boogie or something, that contained a pullup cord and about 6 small rubber bands. It's been floating around in my gear box for I don't know how long (years). I ran out of small bands one day and opened it. Much to my surprise, the rubber bands were a different "small" than usual. They are about 1/4 inch shorter than the usuals, and also slightly thinner. I found that they work much better on my small lines, and now would like to locate more of them! I checked with Keener, and have looked on Sunpath's site (based on the advert on the pullup cord in the packet), but can't locate them or any info. Anyone???
