  1. I have one that I got put together by my rigger, and once you figure material costs, plus the rigger's time, it comes out about the same. You DO, however, get one just like you want it. In my case, I'm happy with the result. As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  2. Well, now we see what happens when winds keep Chuck grounded for a couple of weekends in a row. Maybe it should happen more often ... Excellent piece, Chuck, and I agree that you ought to submit it. Thanks for taking the time and thought to do it!! Now, how do you propose to compile the list of appropriate questions needed to get data that is more pertinent? Your idea, so I think you'd be a good person to head up a panel!! There are plenty of other folks on here who I would bet are quite willing to help. I'll throw out a couple just off the top of my head for starters, including some of the stuff I remember from posts in the thread (in addition to "standard" incident info) ... 1) Canopy info: make/model/size/color/jumps on it (by that person, that is)/perhaps even canopy progression info? 2) Jump info: jump type/size/breakoff altitude/deployment altitude/jumps at that dz 3) Jump run/load info: Aircraft/load size/Where on load was group/single or multiple pass/jumprun orientation to lz (bracketed lz, or what) 4) landing area/pattern info: description of lz/pattern established, if any/method of determining landing direction at the dz (and if it is usually followed and/or enforced) 5) conditions (wind, cloud cover, any other pertinent weather or related info) As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  3. So, by your logic, since the event was over and done with, it was also removed from the memories of people? I don't buy it. I had no confusion about the timeline, I just assume that people were able to remember. I think John put it quite well in his followup post. 4. I've only been to a limited number of larger boogies, but haven't seen any CRW at them at all (doesn't mean it didn't happen, just that I didn't see it if it did!). I'm guessing that they don't encourage it, with multiple aircraft turning loads, etc. You might do better to look for CRW specific events, or at least events at dz's that normally have a lot of CRW activity? I'm just getting into it myself, but from what I've seen so far, the dogs are always happy to play with anyone who shows up willing and able, no matter where they call home! 5. Why? Where in the 2nd does it say anything specifically about that? It doesn't. It says, "shall not be infringed", but it doesn't say universally and without question as long as the weapons are also used by the government. Taken to an extreme, AND I'M NOT SUGGESTING IT IN ANY WAY, the clause "shall not be infringed" would still remain intact even if the government only allowed you a very limited range of weapon choices because you'd still have the right to own a firearm. No, it doesn't state that specifically, but few of our laws are as specific as they could be, and in most cases, I think they are intentionally written that way. I'm certainly no legal scholar, but I said what I did because, taken in light of the political climate at the time, I believe the 2nd had a lot to do with the fact that the colonies felt the need to rebel against the government that was controlling them at the time. 6. For me, it goes back to what I feel was the main reason behind the 2nd. I think that in terms of hand held firearms, that if the government can own it, I should be able to own it also. As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  7. ok y'all ... Due to availability of folks, we've changed it to June 11th. If one of you mods happens to see this, please change the date in the title for me ... it won't allow me to edit! We still need 4 or 5 more people ... you native Texans come on out and show your Texas spirit!! edit to add ... here is the FB event: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=211708608858425 As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?

Didn't know you have had one John ... now your "scream" comment makes a little more sense! As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  9. #3 ... others have mentioned wing loading disparity, but also, some canopies are just flat faster. I fly a 7 cell (Triathlon), and I think that almost any 9 cell at a reasonable loading will overtake me! As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  10. ok folks ... things are still very loose, but so we have something to shoot for, setting it for May 21 for now. If you're a native, have the experience to be on 20 ways, and are interested, holler! RD Latimer will organize the jump itself. I'm going to look into some BBQ for after, and possibly even a commemorative t-shirt (been mentioned to me ... have to think about that one!). Cost would just be the jumps plus video (not much per slot..., in other words), plus food, and the shirt "IF" (meaning, if enough of y'all want to go to the expense, I'll try to get one made up!). Also need video ... not necessarily native, but that would be cool if you are! So far, I have about 8 pretty firm folks ... final decisions will be up to RD, of course. If we end up with extras, then perhaps we'll try multiples, with different folks! Please pass this on to anyone who might want to come play ... thanks! You don't have to be participating to show up, have fun, and eat ... but if you do plan to eat, please let me know! 11. I agree with the Woodstock post, but the one I had in mind when I saw this thread .... (yes, I'm old too!) ... Bloodrock Live ... good stuff! As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  12. excellent work ... THANKS Bryan! As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  13. yep ... at least so far, saturday is shaping up nicely ... see ya out there! I've heard mention of possible night jumps, so if you want to watch that, hang out for a while and have a beer or two. As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  14. First, Robin pm'd me some info that I think might have help clarify things a LOT in some of the original threads about FMD/Perris. They have such a huge area that the various landing areas there have enough space around them that there is ample room for each landing area to have it's own airspace for holding areas plus patten space. So, there is no conflict between them as I was envisioning ... that question's now answered, at least for me ... thanks Robin. So, if you don't like the FMD direction selected in the grass area, you switch to one of the other landing areas and get into the pattern for it instead. Thanks Wendy! You know how Waller was set up. It was small enough that based on wind direction, the holding area was pretty well defined for you. Now, with the huge landing area at Eagle Lake, and the LONG walk you can have if you land out in the far reaches of the landing area, it's quite different. Have you been out there yet? If the wind is west, it's easy, since you pretty much want to land near the southwest corner of the area so you don't have to make a trek back, and the holding area would be on the west side ... no problem. This also works ok if wind is north or south and you happen to be on the west side. It's much less clear if you end up making your approach from the east. Then, to land anywhere on the west side, you either have to start your pattern higher and fly a very long crosswind (which isn't flying a "regular" pattern), or your holding area has to be above part of the landing area. If you have the altitude to spare, sure, you fly south and west, and use the space between the tandem landing area (south) and the main landing area for holding/setup, but that doesn't happen to me that often, it seems. Sooooo ... what is the correct approach to take in order to land at least near where you'd like without causing trouble for others? 15. hmmm .... I thought I carefully worded that post to be benign, but it got removed ... guess I owe someone beer, since I think that is the first I've had taken off the forums ... LOL!! Is that a mod version of slapping my hands and telling me to behave? ... As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  16. Agreed about the troll, and will try not to feed it. I thought that referencing the other threads made it clear that I had read them and still didn't know, so asked. Perhaps it is clear to someone who has been there, but since I have not and don't know the layout, it sounded (and still does) to me like it could get confusing. BV's answer was some help, yes, in that it described some of the specifics of the landing areas for me, but it didn't indicate to me just how any pattern could be established other than for the grassy area. Plus, he said there are two student areas where any direction IS acceptable. Part of the reason I asked is that our dz recently moved to a new location, where the landing area is humongous. At the old place, the pattern was dictated by the landing area size/location, and there was really no question about holding area, etc. relative to the wind direction on any given day. I was just curious how this all works out at a multi-aircraft dz with multiple landing areas and a lot of room. As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  17. I suppose I must spend hours doing searches from every conceiveable angle about something to be absolutely certain that a question is "original" before posting a query from now on. I'm so terribly sorry to have inconvenienced you by forcing you to sit in front of your pc and making you read what was a genuine question, but that you felt had too little merit to bother with a response. Funny, you don't seem to mind making the supreme sacrifice of your time by responding to give someone grief though. Great attitude! 18. thanks! As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  19. I agree with one of the other offshoot threads that this entire thing has brought up some interesting discussion. I don't want to rehash FMD, etc. I DO want to ask a question that relates to what I've seen in the other threads. Several times it has been stated that if you land in the grass area, you follow FMD, and if you don't want to do so, you can land elsewhere in the landing area. That seems to indicate that there is at least some semblance of order to landing on the grass, but that the rest of the area is just a big free for all, and could have people landing in all directions all over the landing area. Is this really how it works? That just sounds scary to me! As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  20. I'd be interested in your long term results, since I also have problems with one ear getting fluid after almost every time I jump. It usually limits me to 1 - 3 jumps on any given trip to the dz, and makes jump #'s build very slowly. PITA, for sure! Are you involved much in aquatic sports? I was told that due several of my other hobbies involving water, I was not a good candidate for the tube. As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  21. If nothing else, we got you to make your first post after being registered for about 6 months ... beer!! ... ;) ... There is supposed to be a Texas star attempt at SDH this saturday that will not have the native requirement. Your profile isn't filled in, but if you have the experience you'd be welcome. Just show up and find RD ... he's organizing that one also. As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  22. Your WFFC example brings something to mind that I don't remember ever seeing/hearing discussed. In a situation like that, I am sure that normal exit seperation times go out the window, but what SHOULD be done with regard to that? I understand it's very situational, and that down low it likely doesn't come into play ... just get the heck OUT, but if at altitude would it be best to have some time between rather than just getting everyone out the door as fast as possible? As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  23. Chuck ... you a native? Need ya if you are. Same for Dee! As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  24. No details as of yet ... once I have more I'll post in the events forum, but wanted to get y'all thinking about it. We're going to try to get an all native Texan TeXXas star together. RD Latimer will do the organizing for the jump itself, and I'm going to try to handle the rest. If you're a native, have the experience to do it, and are interested ... let me know! Most likely at Skydive Houston, and at least for initial planning, we're going to shoot for sometime in May. As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  25. ahhhh ... admit the truth Dave ... you're just in love with their giant swoop pond ... As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
