  1. This is true but only if you just turn up, the point being this guy had been given a specific time to turn up at. If you had an appointment at the dentist you wouldnt turn up at opening and hang around to see if you could get in early. "If your chute malfunctions, you've got the rest of your life to fix it"
  2. I take the same view as when I learned to drive, I wasn't a driver till I passed the test up until that point im just a student learning a skill. "If your chute malfunctions, you've got the rest of your life to fix it"
  3. Just a quick update on my progress, I did another 5sec delay and nearly got it, I arched like a....well a stone arch, but managed to go into a standing position, panicked and pulled....looking back wasnt the smartest thing iv done. Then last week I jumped looking at the plane the whole time and finally got this whole relax idear, went for the pull and for the first time actually got into a nice position (i.e belly to earth as opposed to on back) during deployment. Iv got to say the frustration makes getting it right so much more rewarding, I couldnt help but grin like an idiot walking back to the hanger. Thanks for the advice it was most useful. 4. Just for my personal reference, would I be right in saying the SIM is the equivalent to the BPA's Instruction Manuals? "If your chute malfunctions, you've got the rest of your life to fix it"
  5. I was thinking about going to Spain to do my AFF course since i think the style of learning would suit me better that the RAPS system im on at the moment. The problem im having is where to go. 1. Freefall University 2. Freefall Addicts 3. Skydive Empuriabrava All 3 seem very good from their websites, the thing im wanting to do is go over and get my licence and all of them seem to offer that. The only difference i found so far is the Freefall University seems to be the cheapest of them with the flights and accomodation added. Being a student im not too sure what i want from a DZ or what to look for but since i would be going over myself a friendly atmosphere would be good. Does anyone have any opinions or even better first hand experience that would help make up my mind? Thanks Aza "If your chute malfunctions, you've got the rest of your life to fix it"
  6. I feel your pain, someone once said to me skydivers are a very close knit community at the DZs that was possibly the biggest understatement of the decade. I have about as much social grace as a fish so I take the tactic of hiding in a corner till I get to jump again. As for my handicap, I think im in it just now....cant seem to get off 5 sec delays , then again iv only just started
  7. Yes it should be covered in the training brief but despite people telling students not to land somewhere they will somehow still wind up in the trees or the pond......or the field with crops freshly sprayed with pestacides, not the nicest place to land. 8. This doesnt have anything to do with anything really but it did pass 5 min of work time thinking about it......a wingsuit that could land without deploying....... "If your chute malfunctions, you've got the rest of your life to fix it"
  9. Sorry I should have said that i had already done the 3 sec delay, that was ok since it was short and all I had to do was pull. AFF I was thinking about but to do that I would rather wait till Im on 10 sec delays then go in at Level 3.....kind of a catch 22. Thanks for the thoughts so far. 10. Im quite new to this sport so please forgive my obvious shortcoming.....and the not so obvious ones. Im a RAPS student and Im having trouble with sensory overload, Im on my 5 sec delay and have been on it for a couple of jumps now mainly because the second I leave the aircraft my mind goes completely blank. This was never a problem on S/L or Dummy Pulls but for some reason now Im onto freefall I think myself lucky I even get to 2 in the count before I pull out of instinct rather than any form of control. My thinking was since I did a S/L as a very first jump if I did a tandem now it would help by getting me used to everything that happens after you exit. Any thoughts would be much appreciated Aza "If your chute malfunctions, you've got the rest of your life to fix it"
