Hey all I did my LVL 2 AFF today and the whole ride up i was scared out of my mind but as soon as i was falling i was just fine. Did you take the two year break because you wanted to, or did the body slam caused by the forward surge on your parachute cause this? I would almost bet money this resulted in a hard tailbone strike, and possibly a minor compression fracture. But good to hear you are back on the saddle... I suffered little more than broken pride. The 2 year break was because i was laid off of work 2 days after i did the first jump and it was 16 months before i found work again. Ok, after nearly 2 years being away from the sport I signed up to retake my AFF-1. I was scared to death because my last one did not go well at all and I just about did not walk away from my landing (if you can call it a landing). There are 3 big things that messed me up that should not have. 1. Bad body position on deployment causing a line twist malfunction. 2. No contact with instructors through radio (That should not have been a problem but I panicked.) 3. Flared way high and panicked and released it at around 30 feet and smashed into the ground (Again my fault and it should not have happened. Anyway I did my lvl 1 AFF yesterday at Skydive San Diego. This time I great body position on exit good practice touches good altitude awareness. I deployed right on time with good body position and the main opened right on heading with no problem. I went through everything I was supposed to then just enjoyed the ride till it was time to start in for landing. Just like the first time I did not get any feedback from my instructors on the ground but I was feeling much better and was not panicked. On final approach I did not panic and flared at right about 10 feet and did a great PLF (Instructors said so). It turned out I did not even need to do a PLF because I could have stood that up with ease but I took the safe way out. The reason I had no info from my instructors was because my radio came off right at exit and I did not know nor did I rely on it. Sorry to say I had to work after and could not do lvl 2 but I will be back next payday and do another 2 or 3 jumps. I’m hooked once again. Im Just getting into My AFF jumps. I work 2 jobs and pick up shifts all the time. I have not been home in almost 4 days. Im just glad that there are showers at work. I am looking into getting my own gear not long after i get my Class A License and am wondering what would be a good choice for a new jumper. Yeah I didn't like that log entry my self. I have my own log book and I went more into it than he did. I plan to go back next weekend and get at least 2 jumps in (Depending if that new credit card arrives ) And I'm not going to leave until I get to sit down with the instructor and talk about each jump. Hey guys I just got back from spending the day at Skydive San Diego. I got to talk to a lot of the jumpers areound and asked some questions. Got to see lots of firts jumps. It was a great day. I'm sun burned to hell and gone but I'll live. I didn't get a chance to jump but will be going back real soon to do my next AFF. I also got my logbook that I left behind last week. Here is what they wrote. Look at Altimeter Good Arch Good to go to Levle 2. And under Remarks there is only one word. Altimeter Somehow I thought there would be more in a first jump log. I already posted my first AFF jump and what I did wrong. But I was wondering how normal are line twists? I hade one on my first jump but was easy to get out of. my dad is an old jumper and told be that i should expect to get a line twist almost every time. Is that true or was I just unlucky? That is very true. I have done my best to remember everything that was said but keep falling short. I do remember that one of my instructors talked to me for only a few seconds. I handed him my license progression card and he just looked at it and handed it back to me. I hope I'm not shooting myself in the foot by saying what I remember and it not being right. I was on a big adrenaline rush and was hurting from the landing and more than a little embarrased by having so many ppl see it. My end instructor was the one who was trying to get me on the radio. After I found the ground he was the one to come and make sure I was ok and that all my parts still worked. He helped me with my chute then walked me to the packing area then was gone. Didn't see him again. Thinking about it now I don't remember much of what he said. Sorry to say its true. I asked him some questions but really didn't get much for answers. Then he told me to come back for my Lvl 2. I'm hoping to go back this sunday for my AFF lvl jump.
