  1. Interesting point about being a bigger commitment to get rid of it. Never thought of it that way. And TOTALLY second the part about a good artist.... She did not know that she could not fly so she did. Spread your arms and hold your breath and always trust your cape
  2. Welcome to the family! Love your sig line btw...it's a good one :) She did not know that she could not fly so she did. Spread your arms and hold your breath and always trust your cape
  3. I think tattoos need to symbolize something significant in your life. If you never make another jump again, hasn't your life still changed because of skydiving? Mine has. 3 rings - -post modern angel wings, they let you do what man was never meant to do. -They save your life and let you do it all over again. -the trinity in christianity, if this sport hasn't made you talk to God... She did not know that she could not fly so she did. Spread your arms and hold your breath and always trust your cape
  4. I've jumped at both - I like both for different reasons. The short answer - Skydive Chicago. Hands down. The long answer - I call Skydive Chicago home and wouldn't have it any other way. It's a huge dropzone, always someone to talk to, always someone to learn from. Chicagoland Skydiving Center I'm not as familiar with. They're a lot smaller, but still have the family feel. I think you'll be happy at whichever one you end up at. If you have some time, go visit both of them first and see which you like better. The people make the dropzone, and that's something you kind of have to feel out for yourself. Whichever you choose, don't skip the video. You only do your first jump once and the worst thing ever is getting on the ground and thinking "damn, wish I had that taped..." She did not know that she could not fly so she did. Spread your arms and hold your breath and always trust your cape
  5. I don't think your math is right :) 180 days before December 19th is June 22nd. And how I read it was if it was packed between June 22nd and December 19th, it is legal to jump. Not if it was packed on or before June 22nd. And your new expiration/repack date would be 180 days from the day of your pack. So...Mine was packed on August 19th. My new repack date is Feb 15th....The day the Puerto Rico boogie ends, I think it's a sign.... Correct me if I'm wrong! She did not know that she could not fly so she did. Spread your arms and hold your breath and always trust your cape
  6. Some MMA fighters will wear the octagon of the cage on a necklace. at least they do on tv.... She did not know that she could not fly so she did. Spread your arms and hold your breath and always trust your cape
  7. This thread has kind of changed my mind. I used to think it was after the first time you jumped out of an airplane in flight. It takes a certain kind of person to have the balls to do that. And that person is a skydiver. However, I totally see the point that a lot of people have made. I think it's when you know you'll jump again. And again. And again. It doesn't have anythhing to do with medals or rigs or jump numbers or dollars spent. It's all a mindset. She did not know that she could not fly so she did. Spread your arms and hold your breath and always trust your cape
  8. She did not know that she could not fly so she did. Spread your arms and hold your breath and always trust your cape
  9. Ha....this is a great thread. I over think things a lot and take everything extremely literally. I'm not even going to post what took me 60 jumps to learn. Just remember to ask questions, never give up, don't turn low, and try very hard not to give your instructors more gray hair than they had at the beginning of the day :) She did not know that she could not fly so she did. Spread your arms and hold your breath and always trust your cape
  10. For god sakes pack your own rig!!!! What happens when you're just jonesin to jump, go out on a Tuesday and can only jump once because no one else you know is there to pack for you? What happens when you go to a different dz and can only jump once because you don't know/trust any packers there? I don't know what others are paying for pack jobs but here it's $6 a pack. After 4 jumps you've already wasted enough money that could have bought you a jump ticket. I understand if you're crammed for time or flying video for teams or on a team that's doing back to back loads or something. But there's no reason someone shouldn't be able to pack in 15 or 20 min. At most dzs that's still fast enough to do every other load. And I totally get how much it sucks to be cursing that chute all the way into the bag and still be on the ground when all you wanna be is in the air. Bring your rig home with you and pack it once a night at home. You think i'm nuts but it works. And it gives you a way to think about jumping on that Wednesday when the weekend is oh so far away still. I've packed my own rig since jump 20ish or so. My first pack job was also my first hop n pop. I wouldn't recommend that...too much to worry about on jump 16! I was doubting that thing was gunna open all the until it did...just fine. My logic is that if something goes wrong and I have a big ball of shit over my head instead of an open canopy I'd much rather be cursing myself and saying 'wow...really shouldn't have done that' instead of cursing some packer and saying 'I can't believe that idiot did this to me!' And I know it's not always the pack job that gives you mals but jumpers will always say it is and packers will always say it's body position ;) Sorry for the lecture, but seriously...just pack. She did not know that she could not fly so she did. Spread your arms and hold your breath and always trust your cape
  11. Good point. I don't trust myself that much! I just ask whoever gives me a pin check to tap my shoulder or the side of my container. It's also easier to have someone else tuck in your flap than shoving it back in yourself. IMO She did not know that she could not fly so she did. Spread your arms and hold your breath and always trust your cape
  12. hahahaha! It takes all kinds... AND...the NFL is not allowing tail gating after kickoff any longer. HUH!?! She did not know that she could not fly so she did. Spread your arms and hold your breath and always trust your cape
  13. I think the main reason for putting it in a bag is so that your rig won't get messed with. Accidental deployment of the reserve would suck in an overhead. Maybe the experienced people could confirm/deny. Definitely not experienced - but i would imagine putting it in a bag so other people don't start thinking "why is that person wearing a parachute?....is he planning on being the only survivor when he bombs the plane...?" people love to cause drama and jump to conclusions...just throwing that out there. She did not know that she could not fly so she did. Spread your arms and hold your breath and always trust your cape
  14. Sounds like you already know me, and my history. How'd you hear about that night? Is the story making its rounds to the tandem crowd now? No worries. It's not there...yet. I just read your thread about being "that guy". See you out there! She did not know that she could not fly so she did. Spread your arms and hold your breath and always trust your cape
  15. Thanks for the advice! Just for the record...I didn't realize how um 'inviting?' the sport was for single mid 20-something girls. I didn't mean to make myself out to be a target or whatnot! That being said...I've already been warned about the "oh! This is your first ! That's a case of beer!" And I'm getting the feeling that the real tests are more so if I can make it through the nights rather than if I can make it through the days
