It's not just tests. Any med procedure is like dealing with smokes and mirrors. "Advocates" have been saying for at least a decade in the US that "consumers" of health care must do their due diligence to shop around, get rates, and understand what they are going to pay. This is completely impossible to do for 3 main reasons: 1- Hospitals have no clue what prices are. The "free market" insurance system has insured that there are dozens of different prices for the same procedure. They usually have no clue what will be the price they charge you with your particular procedure until it goes through the insurance process. 2- The total price of a treatment is so convoluted with add-on procedures that you cannot know what "going in for x" will cost you, even if you ask in advance. Hospitals do that because they know prices will be adjusted down when going through insurance. I know. I disputed a not-that-large bill (6 years ago I think) and the accounts receivable clerk reduced the bill by 60% on the spot, without even checking what was in there, if I paid right then. That's even worse than the Marrakesh souk. 3- Often, when you need something done, you don't have time to shop around. Most large expenses on health care are urgent. Remster

Choosing the right drop Zone
Remster replied to Ramzisleiman's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
April to August is the rainy season in Thailand. I'd check into that carefully before booking and selecting those dates. You may have a lot of weather to deal with. It's also the dead of summer for Dubai. Not exactly the best time to jump there. Spain has quite a few DZ, with lots of them ran as UK schools. You could look int that. Empuria would be a good but expensive option. If your plan is to book a trip and get your license in a short period of time, I'd say weather is the main factor you should consider (along with quality of instruction). Not price. Remster -

While, yes, it's nice if a pilot/ground crew sorts the belts when fuling, that 1 load out of 3 or 4. Be the nice guy: if you board among the 1st in the plane, quickly pull them straight as you walk to your seating spot. Remster

It's really not. But it's completely foreign to many DZs and jumpers when visiting a new DZ. If you don't know, ask. And, please, wear them. Remster

Your odds of having good weather for any couple of days at this time of year are better in Eloy. Not sure SDAZ makes night jumps on the 31st anymore. I believe there are night jumps planned for the 3rd Jan tho (full moon). Should have a study roaster of Twin Otters, Skyvans, Ballons, and possibly the DC3. http://www.skydiveaz.com/experienced/events/detail/2014/12/24/default-calendar/skydive-arizona's-legendary-christmas-new-years-boogie-2014 Remster -

I thought I kept all my old Skydiving Magazine mags, but, having looked through them all, I must have gotten rid of a few at some point... Anyway, I'm looking for a cover shot, I'm guessing late 90's, of some 20 (or maybe it was a 22 or 23 way) way chunk exit from an otter that was done in FL (either Z Hills or Deland, but I think Z Hills), that made the cover back then. In fact, I think one month was a 20 way cover, and then the next month a 23 way made the mag too. The shots were from a plane flying next to them. Would someone who kept all their mags mind looking through them, and sending (or posting) a scan of the pic and details? Thanks!!! (No, I wasn't on it, but I've been thinking of trying something similar) Remster

You're missing the point of PED's. Drug use in training is a major issue in many sports. If you could spend more time in the tunnel before getting tired, wouldn't that be useful? Also, when you get into very fast 4way, wouldn't some sort of stimulant be useful to make you go faster, not just physically, but mentally? Now, probably a major reason why there hasn't been that much PED use in skydiving (that we know of) is that the pay off just isn't there... It's not like you'll get a million dollar endorsement deal if you win the World's... Remster

Whoohooo! Good luck with your ride! And just pace yourself to finish in sub 7 then! Remster -
A high level visiting coach was with a visiting VFS team in Eloy a few months ago and he had a gopro mounted on the net. It was fine until the end of the session: since it provided a bit of leverage for even small incidental contact, it spread the net wires a bit, and a flyer's foot went through the net when he stepped close to it. Nothing bad happened, but, he could have easily been injured. Remster

What Erk said. I have no dog in this fight, but, for the record, the iFly patents did not hold up when they were challenged in Europe by ISG. Remster

Chemicals would need to be in an extremely impervious casing. Any exposure to any element would cause decay. And that includes around whatever space around the cutter or the electronics entry port (needed to initiate) into the head. Also, you cant test them without "firing" them. Remster
