It was mostly a tongue in cheek comment... Dropping a knee a still a pretty standard tech for a turn. However, going by what Airspeed has been teaching for the last couple years, they emphasize bootie action. ie, keeping the inside of the booties engaged at all time (think wider leg stance, with lower legs angled inwards, and ankles "cupping"), hence having all that power pre-loaded, and angling the insteps more or less depending on the side to engage the turn. Using this technique, you barely move your knees down, if at all. Remster

The more I've learned about Belgium, the less I understand why it even exists. Seems like Wallonia should be part of France, and Flanders should be part of the Netherlands. That's probably the best description of Belgium I've ever heard I think mostly it exists to produce a few very good cyclists, a huge amount of drunk spectators at bike races, and the beer to keep them drunk. That's about it. Isn't that more reasons than for most countries? Remster

Idiot Politician Threatens Suit for Printing His NAME!!

Look at the editorial. Notice the 1st letter of each paragraph.... What do they spell? Remster -
Beyond accreditation, I would stick with a not-for-profit university. Between, say, a UofA and Phoenix U degree, most people will value the UofA one more, online or not (and I use those 2 as generic example). Remster

I'm a theory kinda guy. Investment theory states that you achieve optimal (not maximal) return while minimizing risk by investing the the total market. So I try and aim at the 2000 and 5000 level index funds. Or, in a bind, a S&P 500 index fund in combo with a small and/or mid cap index fund. Yeah, it's not sexy. But it works. Remster

That has been suggested to me before. I'm starting to think it might come down to that. lol Learn to arch, and as I said, talk about a respected RW guy about a weight belt. If one tells you its a crutch, find someone better. Remster

Get a Nylon front suit, with spandex forearm and back. Also get booties. Typical RW competition setup. Depending on your height and weight, you may also want to think about a weight belt. Talk to a local respected RW type person and get their feedback. Remster

Any motor sport rating for helmet is to protect from a fall of between 1 to 1.5 meters. That's all you have to worry about, even with all that horizontal speed (unless you hit a curb or a tree, in which case, it wont matter much. Ask Schummacher). Even a moderately botched landing will induce much more vertical speed than that. Some people keep asking for ratings, but they really don't know what they are asking for. And you want the FAA to get involved? Are you people daft? Remster

Lessons Learned: Preventive Maintenance Keeps Skydivers Flying

The Eloy tunnel ran for at least a year with only 3 fans out of 4. For all I know, it still is. Remster -
Who designed Velo/Pregriene/Petra/VX?

Not necessarily. Patents are given to individuals even when employed by a corporation. Remster -

Hard Rear riser turn leads to spin
Remster replied to kvnhlstd's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Luv it... Thanks for the "serious" input. I think this weekend I need to do a late afternoon high pull and play some more with it... see how long it goes. The boogie isn't the best time for high pulls. Lots of loads, sometimes parallel jumpruns. Remster -
Damn.... If only there was a thread called something like "Manufacturer Contacts On dropzone.com"... That would be really useful. But then, you'd have to go and find it in the forum, probably on page 241. Unless it was sticky and the very first post on this forum... Remster

Buy used. Jump for a year or two. Sell again. Rig brand doesn't matter as long as it's one of the major manuf. Fit is more important than brand. Choose reserve size that's at least as big as the main you are VERY comfortable jumping now. Choose a main of a type and size you can safely jump now. Too many people have bough a smaller main that ":will be plenty good by the time I jump it" and end up breaking themselves. For 5k used, you can also get a newer AAD. Get a newer Cypress or Vigil. Looking for the NEEDS and DON'T need in a RW suit
Remster replied to Safelandings's topic in Gear and Rigging
I disagree with a lot of your "needs. You don't need an extra pocket. Zippers often break, and for whatever reason, pockets seems to be the 2st victims. You don't need tall zippers on booties. In fact, I'd say no zippers at all on booties. Again, they break, and these are the 1st victims to break. You don't need a liner. Never had one, and I've jump in AZ for the last 9 years. Wear a freaking Coolmax t-shirt that cost $9 at Costco. Zippers on the forearm: poor kid... You want people to think he's from Texas???? Remster -
Looking for the NEEDS and DON'T need in a RW suit
Remster replied to Safelandings's topic in Gear and Rigging
What others have said, especially with model, fit and fabric (for fall rate). Besides that, for RW: you'll want booties (mega or XL or the like, don't know the specific names from Bev), inside and outside leg grippers, and regular arm grippers (not double). Larger grippers are great but not a must. The rest is personal preference, or based on fall rate. Remster -
The ones we had for Borneo are 15 years old.... :-| Remster

Question about first rig, Which would better
Remster replied to FreeFlyCowboy's topic in Gear and Rigging
Yeah... Without knowing the OP, I'd say get a 230, and an appropriate reserve. That will still be a 1.1:1 load. At least. Remster -
Choosing the right drop Zone
Remster replied to Ramzisleiman's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Again, if you're booking a specific trip, weather has to be a huge factor. If April / May are good for you, Empuria isn't that expensive, and, weather is normally not a big problem there, unless you get the Tramontana winds. About US$3000 for the AFF/10 jump consol/Bunkhouse package. http://www.skydiveempuriabrava.com/iniciacio_cursos_allotjament_preus-2.html Plus it's a nice destination too. Voss would be awesome, but, I wouldn't trust the weather as Ellena explained. Remster -

If you want a deal, I'd look into Russia these days. Well, might as well wait the day-of to get the best deal on the Ruble... Remster
