  1. "The Holy Bible is the only information source that has remained constant in my lifetime. "

If you've been reading the original Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic, that would be true. If you only read the King James translation, that would be true. Actually though, there have been some revisions and re-interpretations in your lifetime. The following link discusses one of several examples, if you're interested.

"When an angry buffalo is charging at you, you simply make a fist and hit him between the eyes as hard as you can. A slight injury to your hand is nothing compared to being trampled by an angry buffalo."

"I don't always drink beer, but when I do, sometimes I fall down."

"Arm wrestling Chuck Norris was a little harder than I thought it would be, but I WON."

  3. After reading your post several times, I still fail to see how it refutes the facts presented or further enlightens the issue. Thanks for trying to help, but I still have the impression that the lawmaker mentioned by the OP is making laws for other people to follow that he himself doesn't follow.

  4. I realize that the issue has been resolved and my comment is a bit late, but:
That guy is not current. Regardless of his previous experience and ratings, SIM section 5.2.D requires him to make one or more jumps under the supervision of an instructional rating holder. Unless I missed it, this point wasn't mentioned, but would any of you want to take him out on a coached jump?
If he wants to jump alone, he can hire a pilot to take him up, but at a USPA dz, his first jump will necessarily involve someone else.
    Just a thought; carry on.

  5. I heard a WW2 pilot talking about the canopy sizes recently. He pointed out that the 28 foot canopy was thicker, so it set you up higher in the cockpit. The smaller guys got those. The 24 foot canopy was smaller, so provided more headroom. The big guys got those.

  6. The bigger story here is the lack of protection from the legal system that would prevent the car-jacking in the first place. When the cops do arrest someone for a serious crime, they hold a news conference and point out what a long criminal record the suspect has. They would do better to show up at the sentencing hearing and ask the judge not to keep letting the criminals back on the street. Guys don't just get up one morning and decide to jack a car. They work their way up to it after numerous run-ins with a legal system they don't respect or fear. This is what leads the civilians to believe they need to protect themselves.

The difference is, the is no public or media outcry against the Muslim bakers. We all know the Muslims will not tolerate homosexuality but we give them a pass.

Eight years ago there was a public outcry against the people who didn't want to provide service. Now there's a public outcry from the same sources in favor of the people who don't want to provide service.

  8. "Ya, in pizza boxes with bible quotes on them...problem solved. "
Strange you should mention that. Trijicon used to inscribe biblical references on their scopes. Some of the soldiers who worked closely with Muslims in places like Iraq and Afghanistan thought that could be "distracting" and Trijicon stopped putting the references on scopes sold to the government in 2010.
You know, the discussion this year is mainly from the point of view of right-thinking, God-fearing Christians who want to be selective about who they do business with. Just let a gay jeweler announce that he won't sell wedding rings to Christians, based on their view that homosexuality is a sin, and this discussion takes a U-turn.

  9. This is what Fox News said about Muslim cashiers in Target stores in Minneapolis who refused to ring up purchases of pork. 'Course, that was way back in 2007. Plenty of time for some people to forget that what goes around, comes around.

As the local Muslim population grows, fueled by immigration from East African countries such as Somalia, efforts by Muslims to live by the rules of their faith often conflict with American realities.

In one dispute, some Muslim cab drivers who serve Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport refuse to take passengers who are carrying alcohol. The Metropolitan Airports Commission is expected to vote in April on a proposal that would hand out 30-day license suspensions to cabbies who refuse service for any reason.

  10. Interestingly, Hindus in India's Maharashtra state just banned the killing and consumption of beef. If the Muslims could get a ban on pork, they could all join the Catholics for a Friday fish fry.
The one thing almost all religions have in common is intolerance for other religions.

  11. One point about the SETI project: It looks for intelligent life on other planets.
There's been life on earth for ~ a billion years. It's only in about the last hundred years that life on earth has been able to reach out beyond earth's atmosphere.
If you're looking for life on other planets, you're not looking for radio waves, you're looking for bacteria and dinosaur poop. Do bacteria believe in God? Probably not, but the failure of the SETI project does nothing to boost the author's idea that life is impossibly improbable. There's still plenty of room in the universe for the kind of life that doesn't build alters to gods.

If if didn't/doesn't work, why did/do we use it?

I'm not going to take sides in this particular argument, but I can tell you that as a matter of logic, that is weak. Can anyone think of an example of something people continue to use even though it doesn't work?

  13. You weren't already crying??
The fact is, Republicans let a few rich people dictate policy. Think of Enron/Phil Gramm, the Koch brothers, ... . Democrats mean well but they're just incompetent. The Affordable Care Act is a case in point. Or more recently, sending a brigade of air assault infantry to Africa to build hospitals for ebola patients.
To illustrate both points, who believes that Lehman Brothers went bankrupt because of too much government regulation, or that Dodd/Frank will really fix the problem?

When will a party leadership (either) be wise enough to get us off this track????

My experience is that when management goes bad - be it of a company or a country - things continue downhill until the wheels fall off.

... in the heat of a Miami summer. If the bad guy can still run away from the cops in full body armour, up a steep hill,

A steep hill in Miami ?? You Canadians crack me up. And yet, you somehow manage to walk among us, virtually unnoticed. now for the good stuff:

In response to a Guns.com article published last week, California congressman Mike Honda issued a statement about the references he used during the Aug. 6 introduction of his controversial bill to prohibit the sale of body armor to civilians.

“[W}hile speaking about my introduction of The Responsible Body Armor Possession Act, I referenced a shooting in Riverside County, California. My staff has been informed that some of the information I gave about that shooting, specifically that the shooter was wearing body armor, was based on media reports at the time which have turned out to be inaccurate,” Honda said.

“The errors in this reporting were repeated in the materials that we used to prepare for Wednesday’s press conference. We should have done a better job of researching this particular case before using it as an example.”

He also said he “misspoke” when detailing the incident where the suspect, Alex Anderson, 34, got into a shootout with police in multiple locations in Moreno Valley. He said two law enforcement officials were killed, when in fact two civilians — an 86-year-old grandmother and her 58-year-old son-in-law — were killed and a deputy was wounded.

The early and inaccurate news reports used were published by NBC Los Angeles and The Press Enterprise.

Additionally, Honda described the shooter as wearing body armor, when he was not. However, Honda still thinks his bill has merit.

“While this incident did not involve a gunman wearing body armor, there have been too many other cases where a well-armored gunman has injured and killed citizens and police officers,” Honda said. “This bill seeks to help law enforcement protect us, and themselves, in an active shooter situation.”

That's right. The Congressman didn't even have his facts straight. Now, there's a fucking surprise.

  15. I guess I'm a little worried that the steel plate I have in my basement ( for fabricating things ) could be considered a "shield". Or the engine block in my car could be considered a "shield". Or ... In other words, when Congressmen start solving problems that aren't problems, how many other problems can they cause.
