  1. (at risk of getting this moved to Bonfire) So is the not uncommon canopy wrap and cutaway like a second, super orgasm, or more like noticing that the condom broke? Costs you 3 more lift tickets too for the repack! Hi, I’ve only been in one wrap so far and fortunately it wasn't complicated. Next time I'll remember to hold onto my handles because they were more expensive then the repack Hmmm? It’s a mixture of emotions. Firstly, F*** this is serious – deal with it for both your sakes. Then when everyone is clear & safe, a warm, very naughty & gratifying Second Orgasm kicks in that is so intense that you don’t mind buying the whole DZ a beer to apologise for messing up and celebrating your second life! CRW is awesome. The only other time I felt this stoked was when I first started skydiving. Sadly after about 100 jumps that buzz died for me. When I do CRW I feel like I’m having a real adventure, like climbing, skiing off piste, deep diving or motorcycle racing. An AAD is not going make everything better so don’t make a mistake in the first place and if you do then you have to deal with it. Just watch how much fun these guys are having. It’s a healthy mix of humorous fun, hard work, adventure & camaraderie:THE FINNISH 4 WAY! Yours sincerely, Andy
  2. Aaaawww come on, free fall is fun but don't you just find it a bit dull & short lived? CRW is more like a mind blowing orgasm that lasts for ages Copy and pasting the link into your browser bar: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3604480;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread
  3. Hi, Let’s say a jump ticket costs £20. An FS jump will typically last 50 seconds. That is 40 pence per second. If you dumped at 5000ft instead of 2000ft then you will lose 15 seconds of FS time but gain 3 minutes of CRW time. This will mean your jumps will last 3 minutes and 35 seconds for your £20 which means you are paying 9 pence per second for your Skydive. That’s 300% extra value for your money! If anyone is interested I am organising a CRW course for beginners. The course is not a cost; it is a smart financial investment and an enrichment of your skydiving skills. If you have less than 100 jumps then don’t worry. Just send me an email and I’ll look at your case and get an agreement sorted between your CCI, the coach & our CCI. My email address is [email protected] Click here to find out more… http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3604480;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread Regards Andy
  4. Hi, Chris & I both went to speak to the CCI at Gap yesterday. There was also another dude there, I think he heads up the French team. Anyway, we were discussing the minimum requirements. The French team dude said 30 jumps but the CCI wasn't so keen he would prefer at least 50 with supporting evidence. In a nutshell, there are no minimum requirements & this is not a big CF road show so the Instructors can spend more time with you, therefore if you have less than 100 jumps then I will need extra information from you so a decision can be made on a case by case basis. I anticipate the course will be in the latter half of September and that you will do some jumps between now and then. 1. Date you started jumping. 2. Total jumps today. 3. How many jumps are you planning on doing by mid Sept? 4. What is your weight without kit? 5. What canopy are you currently flying and how big is it? 6. Can you confidently say that you can hit the pit 6 out of 10 jumps? 7. Have you asked your CCI for permission to do CRW? RSVP, thanks & regards, Andy
  5. Hi, I’m just a humble ham-fisted CF-Student but I have been very fortune to meet “Christophe Balisky” who has literally taken me under his wing. On our 3rd exit my break line jammed, the next thing I knew Chris casually top docked me, kindly flew me away from the mountainside and safely back to the DZ, told be not to cut away and briefed me on landing with rear risers. He then criticised me for failing to hit the pit Christophe’s credentials are huge but in summary: French team, World Champion, Big way organiser, helped design the Storm, has the patience of a Saint, being half American speaks perfect English and is passionate about CRW. On top of that, he is also a really nice guy! Christophe is very keen to teach CRW to increase the number of CRW jumpers within our extremely small family. Between jumps, he asked me to ask around and see if anyone would be interested to learn about CRW using brand new CF Storms courtesy of the French team. The DZ will be at Gap in France. This does mean you will have to travel but it will be well worth your time because A. You will be taught by one of the worlds finest. B. The weather is Mediterranean so is nearly always fantastic. C. With low cost air lines, from anywhere in the EU, you can easily get to France and back for the same cost as about 4 jump tickets. If you are interested then please email me directly at [email protected]. I’ll need to know your 1. Weight 2. Jump numbers 3. Any previous CRW experience 4. IMPORTANT SO PLEASE READ CAREFULLY. This will be a long weekend of jumping, i.e. including Friday and/or Monday. I need to know any weekends that you CAN NOT make in August, September or October 09. When we know who is coming and when it will happen, Christophe will negotiate with the DZ’s (there are 4 at Gap) for jump fees, accommodation etc and we can firm up dates & prices. If you have always wanted a go at CRW then this is your chance to get top quality instruction in the sun, SO GET IT ON!!! Many thanks & Best regards, Andy Turner. PS. Please feel free to print this post and stick it up at your local DZ for the benefit of those that don’t do the internet.
  6. Hi Jimbo, No shit? The exam question is, is it significantly quicker? If not then crack on. If it is then proceed carefully or wuss out and get a sail slider like everyone else YA BIG GIRL Regards Andy
  7. Hi mate, given a nominal 3 second delay, is there much difference between the normal sail slider and a mesh slider? If not then try 5 seconds, then 7, then 9, then 12. If you get to 12 without pain then chances are you will be ok, but keep an eye on the lines and canopy during each pack job and do an honest line check on each deployment Regards Andy
  8. Hi CRWSlut, its my understanding that... 1. Sequential is the standard PD comp line trim and exactly the same as World record 2. Rotation is just the short version of Sequential. please correct me if i'm wrong. Rest assured I usually am :0) Best regards Andy
  9. Hi, What’s the score with Line Trims? I here people talk about Rotation trim, Sequential trim, “World record” trim and Demo trim!!!! I’ve had a look on the web and on PD’s website and I’m hazarding a guess so please feel free to shoot me down in flames if I’ve got it wrong! World Record is just PD’s standard “Competition trim”. PD offer 2 main trims, Competition and Demo. For Demo PD don’t specify lengths – are they longer/shorter/angled & why? For competition PD offer “Standard” and “Short”. I’m guessing that “Short” is for Rotations because being shorter the canopy is more solid and there is slightly less distance to cover in the air if the stack are using shorter lines. The “Standard” competition line trim is used for Sequential work. Apart from these there are no other odd little quirky custom line trims that I don’t know about??? Cheers, Andy PS. I need to know this info because I’m looking for a second hand 176.
  10. Hi, I need at least 12 intensive “One on One” CF jumps with someone that knows what they are doing over 2 days (3 days would be better). I know the basic theory but I need to put it into practice. I live in the South of France near Gap, were it is nice & sunny but there are virtually no CF Instructors. I’m happy to pay for your… 1. Transport costs (including Flights) up to €300. 2. Jump tickets. 3. …and possibly dinner & beer if you’re a cheap date ;0) Alternatively, if you can almost guarantee the whether then I will travel to your DZ. Does anyone want a free weekend in the sun teaching CF? If so email me at [email protected] Regards Andy PS. I’ve got 17 CF jumps. 11 of these were several years ago. My exit weight is 244lb and I have a Lightning 193. WL is 1.26lb/sqft. I’m happy to add weight or links or jump your canopy (down to 160) if your WL is higher. PS. If anyone has a Lightning 176 that they want to sell then email me at [email protected]
  11. All, Thank you everyone, this post has been very insightful. My understanding now is that there are in fact 3 popular CRW canopies. 1. The Lightning is a good all rounder and particularly good for Sequential. It is softer and more forgiving then a Triathlon which also makes it a choice canopy for a newbie/wannabe. 2. The Triathlon is a cheeky little canopy, fly’s faster than the Lightning, is less forgiving, and has a penchant for Rotations! 3. As for PDs new CF-Storm. The 120 Canopies and above are bonk for competition CRW due to excess foreskin issues designed in because non CF jumpers want nice soft openings. Thanks PD – well done you geniuses! That said, Canopies below 120 are super fast and the cats whiskers for rotations. In terms of CF I'm still at the crawling stage but at least now I have a heads up in terms of choice of canopy and suitability for different requirements. Thank you everyone, best regards & safe jumping, Andy PS. I'm looking for a Lightning 176 - drop me a PM if you have one for sale!!!
  12. Hi, My CRW canopy doesn't have a tail pocket so I was thinking of ditching the DBag and just free stowing the lines. From what I can gather you just feed them into the container in the shape of a figure 8. Apart from this are there any tricks & tips? Thanks & regards, Andy
  13. Hi, I've found a DZ that do CRW coaching but they want 75 euros per 2 way jump excluding kit hire. 40 euros pays for 2 jump tickets so coaching fee is 35 euros a jump. This seems steep to me but I may be spoilt as CF coaching in the UK is free you just pay for your Instructors jump ticket. What are the going rates for CF coaching? Thanks & regards, Andy
  14. Hi, I’d like to start a new CRW Database for CRW jumpers. This would let newbie’s find coaches and qualified CRW jumpers find each other to go jump with, arrange informal competitions & very small weather dependant boogies/parties, you know a bit like motor bike club meets. IF YOU THINK IT’S A GOOD IDEA THEN PLEASE JUST POST A RESPONSE TO THIS THREAD SAYING THAT YOU SUPPORT THE IDEA. If there is enough support, I’ll approach the moderators with a database specification and ask for their support. If you have any input re the db spec (e.g. Name, Local DZ, Canopy type, WingLoad etc.) then please post your idea here. Thanks & Regards, Andy
  15. we are on Storms, but were not on triathlons, but on lighnings Caren how are you and your team finding the new Storm? Purely in terms of CRW, i.e. non of the other nice frilly stuff like nice flares and openings etc, in terms of a pure hardcore CRW canopy how is it compared to the Lightning? Regards Andy
  16. Saskia, Awesome – that’s exactly what I was I after! Thank you & Best regards Andy
  17. Hi VectorBoy, My apologies, I probably wasn't very clear in the first post, which I can't edit now. I know what’s best for rotations isn’t best for sequential that’s why I'm after 3 or 4 canopy names. A) Best All rounder for those that don't own several canopies!!! B) Best Sequential and What makes a good Sequential canopy? C) Best Rotations and What makes a good Rotations canopy? D) Most Popular – This is actually a rubbish question because the answer will be the same as Best All rounder. Equipment choice is not the most important factor when planning for a successful team, but its a fairly important one and there is no excuse for not doing your home work!!!! Thank you for the info on the various canopies. Cheers & Best regards, Andy
  18. Excellent, this is exactly the kind of practical info I was after. Is there anyway you could double check or can someone else back this up? Cheers, Andy
  19. Ok I found it. Its a weekend 22/23 August. Hmmm a bit short for a trip across the atlantic. That said is anyone else doing CRW there either before/after the event? If I can pad it out to a weeks jumping then it would be worth the air fare Regards Andy
  20. Dude, I'd love to! What are the dates? If its just a weekend thing then it may be a bit far to come but if its a week then I could justify that to the Mrs. I'm also relocating from France to UK at the end of July but I'm sure she would also be fine with that ...seriousley mate what are the dates and I'll see if I can swing it??? Best regards, Andy PS. I got me a Lightning 193 that I'm planning on tuning a little
  21. Hi Kevin, My intension was to start by making make a link length 1.5 times longer in length than a standard link, test and conservatively adjust from there in increments of 0.25, e.g. 1.75 if not enough or 1.25 if too much etc. This means the effect will be less than adding a complete link to start with. Wrt adding additional links, I totally understand what you say about known structural strengths but … a. Does this not create an awkward angel between the risers and the lines? If you lay a riser flat on the floor, add a link & connect the lines then everything is flat. If you add another link then the assembly is not perfectly flat. b. There is a risk that the new link may rotate during deployment causing a sideways loading across the link, which its not designed for i.e. they are stronger lengthways than sideways. That said the risk could be minimised by using tape across the new link in the same way a safety belay for a karabiner works for climbing. c. Using complete links means that you can only increment by 1 complete link at a time. Speaking practically for CRW, does this give you enough adjustability in terms of precision? Thanks & very best regards, Andy
  22. Hi, I’m trying to sort out my first CRW canopy. Most people in the UK jump Lightnings and my exit weight (I wore everything and got on the scales) is 244lbs. I therefore believe I need a 176 Lightning. The only snag is I can’t find a used one! That said I have acquired a 193. On my first jump I was a little floaty in relation to my Instructor. On my second jump I donned about 7lb of lead which seemed to help. What I really need to do is jump more, get more feedback and fiddle more. What I was wandering was, should I also be playing with the link lengths between the rear risers and the lines? I was thinking of swapping the Stainless steel links for some cord, tying a tape knot and backing that up with reef knots either side of the tape knot. The cord is for climbing and used to rig protection, i.e. making slings or attaching a hex to a karabiner. This would give an infinite level of adjustment! 1. Is this an accepted practice for tuning canopies? 2. If so, does anyone have a gut feel/calculated guess about how much extra line length would be needed at the rear? As always, many thanks & best regards, Andy.
  23. Jamie, This thread is about how Storm flys with Lightning, which it doesn't by the sounds of it, not about which canopy is best. That said, I think its a very interesting discussion in its own right so have started a new thread: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3590376;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread Ian & Steve are good guys and I'm not knocking what the say but I like to come hear and get other opinions from CRW jumpers around the world. In terms of experience, If you look up the list, only you and I have less than 1000 jumps BTW The Dutch guy is called "Eward Slot" and he found me here when I was asking around about a 176, and Ian also mentioned Cato might have one, they don't but they also post here, see above! Best regards Andy
  24. Hi, In the past, which is the… 1. Best “All rounder CRW canopy”, i.e. Sequential & Rotations 2. Best Sequential canopy? 3. Best Rotations canopy? 4. Most popular canopy? That said, my main question is this: In terms of getting the job done and scoring points, how does the new Storm perform compared with the old favourites in terms of both Sequential & Rotations? Thanks & best regards, Andy
