  1. I work in domestic violence, and I am glad to hear that she filed for divorce. It takes a lot of strength to get out of a manipulative situation. I wouldn't take it upon yourself to talk to him. If they are still cohabiting, or even not, he could take it out on her. Most homocides related to domestic violence happen after the abused person leaves her partner. It is a critical period. If you do care about this person, I would still offer some dv info for her. There are YWCA's all over the country that offer domestic violence counceling and education classes. This will educate her on warning signs of a potentially abusive partner. http://www.ywca.org this is the national site that will connect you to the Y in your area. 2. you think I do my own taxes? hahaha. This year will suck for taxes, there is no way I could figure it out. I have income from back in MI and now income here in California. I have to file in two states! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The mind is like a parachute--it works better when it is open. JUMP. MaryRose
  3. haha, so true. I saw that just yesterday. This dude looked so freaked. I wasn't sure if it was because he had to jump at 3500 or if it was because he had to spot. Another thing is having to spot. Usually, a place that has a s-l program is also flying out of a plane where there is no green light. AD- I guess I just don't agree that it comes out cheaper. I have done the math myself a few times. I guess it depends where you jump. Yeah, I am a product of static-line training as well, so I guess it makes my arguement less believable. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The mind is like a parachute--it works better when it is open. JUMP. MaryRose
  4. How do you figure? By the time a s-l student graduates, he/she has 16 jumps under his/her belt (acc. to my home dz prog.) and that is if they pass each level. Usually, on their last student jumps, they are swooping down to the instructor. Almost all of the skills required for the A license is coverd during the program. I am not -all hail static-line-, but I do think it turns out some good students and I think there are some definate pros to its program. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The mind is like a parachute--it works better when it is open. 5. I agree with you as well. I am also a SL instructor and since I have left my home dz and come out to where recently graduated aff students roam, I am suprised at how much information they are missing. I am doing coach jumps with them, and there are tons of basic skills that just weren't taught to them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The mind is like a parachute--it works better when it is open. JUMP. MaryRose
  6. did you go through a static line program? or just some of it? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The mind is like a parachute--it works better when it is open. JUMP. MaryRose

  8. I'm sorry, but get over yourself. At least he made it to the gym instead of sitting on the couch eating McD's. Some people don't obsess over working out. They do what they can to stay in shape. Do a little research, yeah, that'd be great, but in the time you spent making this post, you could have explained your 3 cardinal rules or helped him with the correct form. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The mind is like a parachute--it works better when it is open. 9. I learned at a dz with ripcords. I transitioned to throw out when I started on transitional student gear (after I graduated). I didn't think the transition was difficult, but I think boc from the start is a good idea. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The mind is like a parachute--it works better when it is open. JUMP. MaryRose

  13. When I was younger, I always wanted to experience that feeling of falling. I remember jumping off chairs or swings and wishing there was no ground there so I could keep falling. Then one day I made a jump....The ground is still there though.. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The mind is like a parachute--it works better when it is open. JUMP. MaryRose

  15. I have a nice boss as well, but my notice of resig. will be a suprise, I think. I have no idea what she will say, so I am kind of nervous. 16. how did you go about giving notice? Did you hand in a letter or resig? or did you just tell 'em you are going to be done at the end of the month? Did they suspect you were going to quit anyway? just wondering for future reference... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The mind is like a parachute--it works better when it is open. JUMP. MaryRose

  23. It is an xray picture of your cypres, so when they send your rig through the machine, you verify that is what it is with that card and that it's not a bomb. You should have gotten one with your cypres manual. If not, I think you can get one online.
  24. I thought that was pretty damn funny, then again I am easily entertained. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The mind is like a parachute--it works better when it is open. JUMP. MaryRose
