  1. keep going buddy. I too over analysed but still managed 66 jumps.. Fun and good people await you !! I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??
  2. The bum should lose his TM rating !! Terrible behaviour!! I have done many Tandems as a passenger. On all loads there were other tandem groups with young female students with other TIs.. I am very pleased to say at Nagambie and Bridgewater Australia every TM I ever saw was always very respectful of all their customers (even to a dickhead like me) Thanks NAGGAS (Don) and BRIGEWATER (Ralph)!! I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??
  3. It's not the ability of the TM (or the pax) that's the problem. It's taking the tandem rig to speeds for which it was never designed. That sentence says it all !!!! On my many tandems I was allowed on certain jumps by various TIs to read alti and deploy main. in otherwords control the jump under constant supervision (Do not tell Don though) Nothing dangerous like head down or anything the rig was not designed for. Thanks TIs it was fun and gave more experience.. rather than just being a passenger !! I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??

  5. I don't know about Oz land, but here in the US, H&P is a requirement for an A license. For good reasons. You are a fine example of "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing." You have no clue why they are necessary. And you rail on about how dangerous they are (which they can be, done improperly). And were you booted from a DZ for 'daring to ask " Why no skyhooks on the student rigs "?' Or was it for insisting that skyhooks were necessary, the DZO should replace all his student gear immediately, and if he didn't, the DZO would be criminally negligent for putting students into "death on a stick" dangerously inadequate gear? I'm perfectly happy "shooting the messenger" when that messenger is Chicken Little. Not really what happened but you are entittled to your view. My main beef with the DZO was the fact I spent another $1500 when I returned from overseas (6 months) on tandems with the view to return to AFF. After I had spent the $1500 I was told I was no longer allowed to do AFF. despite no safety issues and the sucessful completion of 3 AFF with good instructor comments. How would you feel getting a dream taken away from you ( A licence) If I was a danger in the air to myself or others I would understand. It was I just asked a few uncomfortable questions As for chicken little I still completed 66 jumps over 30 years .. 43 solos. so I proved to myself I could do it. I have nothing to prove to others. I never demanded he replace rigs straight away.. I just made the point. (I work in the legal area) that a Coroner would want to know why a MARD was not present if a student went in after cutting away at 500 feet. Seen many Coroners Court hearings.. know how they operate in Victoria. I was happy to continue AFF with standard RSL:s. The DZO runs an excellent DZ with a very good crew. They just found me too anoying. understandable I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??
  6. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Why do hop and pops have to be done so early in ones jumping career. Could it wait until B or C licence when one is more experienced. Have read a few reports re hop and pops with students,,,, including one fatality in Australia a few years ago. Whats the hurry when it obviously causes so much stress to new jumpers ?? There is another curly question for a certain CI who banned me for daring to ask " Why no skyhooks on the student rigs " ? Instead of an answer I got banned from AFF and set up by fellow travellers of being sexist .. when I warned female Aussie skydivers of the male predators at DZs (admit I used fairly basic language. but my intention was good. Talk about shooting the messenger !! I should go away but yes the answer is no I am not going any where I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??
  7. Seat belts!! Not once in 22 jumps at a certain drop zone in Victoria did any one wear a seat belt on any of loads NOT ONCE !! I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??
  8. Bring back the rounds (NOT) From memory those PC did often mal .. but the good ole T10s... with netting. almost never even with some of my lousy pack jobs. great memories of those days thanks I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??
  9. Very good post. I've had the pleasure of discussing these issues with you at LP. I'm afraid the "cool factor" that Bill Booth talks about will continue to kill people in our sport for years to come. RSL's, big canopies and normal landing just don't get the chicks, man. What he said !!! Do not forget having Mini rings (cause they look cool) rather than standard rings which Mr Booth recommends. (and he designed them.. he should know) I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??
  10. Welcome Daniel You are in for the time of your life. Enjoy it mate !! or Sir as you say in the USA. I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??
  11. I went through the same thing. 40 jumps on T 10 in 1980's. Now done a few jumps on the squares and alot of tandems( I completey stuffed up the second time around due to being a dickhead). Hope you have more luck than me second time around. I still have a soft spot for the t 10s (cause i could pack them etc) but boy has the gear improved since then. Welcome back !! Do not worry you will learn the neaw gear easily. It is as we say in Austrtalia a piece of piss !! (ie easy) Just different and now you can jump as a student in winds you never could on the old T 10s. How many days did we spend in those days watching the experts jump their arse off in higher winds whilst us folk on the T !0s were grounded. Its way better now !! 14. Are you an INTP? Whether you are or not an INTP you think and analyze waaaay too much. You'll note that I don't have a lot of jumps. That's because I spent most of my time in the sport teaching. A few thousand people. If you were my student I would take you aside and suggest that you stop the analysis and simply do what your instructors are telling you to do. If you don't trust their knowledge and methods you should stop and take up bowling or stamp collecting. If you do trust their knowledge and methods you should follow their advice and jump. Think about the jump afterwards... I have always found that when training is drilled into you . you follow that training when the shit hits the fan. never happened to me in skydiving cause I have done fuck all jumps but in my job the style of training is the same .. (ie drilled into you) so you do it without thinking. So by the time you jump AFF you will have so much drilled into you. you would handle a mal no problems. Of course there is some risk You will be fine good luck.(a great adventure and good people await you) I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??

  18. Your lucky its $600 over here two tandems and 2 dvds would cost over a grand jumps $400 each video $130 each I always get hate email when I mention this uncomfortable fact here in Aus. In the good ole USA you have competition unlike here. I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??
  19. Well, on the upside, this would also give *citizens* video evidence of *authorities* misbehaving, instead of only the reverse. What he said. I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??
  20. Charlie Manson said the devil made him do it. This 19 yr old blew people up. Who cares why. And why better alive than dead. He certainly didn't give his victims any choice. In fact, they were planning on even more killing but plan got interrupted due to being spotted. It was good Feds got him, as if MA got him he'd only get life. MA doesn't have state death penalty for murder, only life without parole. What about federal law does that overide state law over there. Death Penaalty to the max !! If others involved the same to them. I am going to your great country in one week for a holliday.. I look forward to it (My 6th visit .. your country is great for a holiday and your people are so friendly and helpful. On dropzone.com I have often made a fool of myself with MARD discussions etc but I always have and always will love your country (and my own Australia of Course) Might sound corny but its the truth Glad you are so united at this time but I expected nothing less !! 21. NO one has ever explained (to me anyway) why AAD firing cannot be raised to 1000 feet. It may or may not have made a difference on this occasion.. but I am tipping it would have. Send some more abusive PMs I get off on them.(not really but I am used to them) I would have thought simple logic.. may be a problem with AADs firing too late answer increase height. anything else I can help you with. (Joke) I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??
  22. The scuttlebutt that I heard in Daytona was that both free bags were found in trees near the bodies. If true, then 250 ft or so would have been another two AAD saves. JerryBaumchen What he said I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??
  23. Hi mate Where did you do your tandem ?? I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??
  24. I see this has happened to others beside me. On several AFF jumps I have had the instructor place my hand on the BOC as I had difficulty finding it. Always deployed it myself but did have trouble finding it. Strange no worries in practice but in the air at pull time I fumbled a bit. Even stranger never had trouble finding the golf ball to deploy a tandem rig on many ocassions (keep that quiet) but struggled with BOC. The BOC is a good invention with one problem. You cannot actually see it. That is a bit unnerving for students. I was taught on the old rounds to look for ripcard before pulling. Obviously the BOC is here to stay. Alot more practice on first jump courses with a real rig would have to help. I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??
  25. Well done !! Keep doing what your are doing !! A great adventure lies ahead I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??
