  1. I have been to the States a couple of times for great holidays. Would I be right in saying that when walking around most cities a lot of people would be carrying hand guns.. or have them in their cars etc. What about walking around Disneyland or going to las Vegas would alot of people be carrying firearms or is that just a myth and people just have them at home. Not a joke just wondering. I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??
  2. yeah I know I have seen Michael Moores film. I actually do not have a problem with law abiding people having guns for self defence but how do you stop the idiots or hotheads from getting them. I carry a handgun whilst working in Aust (security for Police) I would like to have one when travelling home on the train late at night etc but if everyone has one any little fight could turn into the OK Corale. Handguns have always been banned here now rifles and shotguns unless you have a very good reason and strict storage controls. We can not even buy pepper spray or asp batons. Knives are our biggest problem. So actually I am confused the USA argument is you have aright to self defense but the murder rate is far worse than ours (per head) and yet with our laws people are basically defencesless. hard question I do know the fine folk in the USA will never give up their arms... and the policticians here will never allow hand guns here. Who is right I just do not know. I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??
  3. have fun .. smile at the camera (You must get the dvd) its great watching over and over with friends and family. Like others have said you may be consumed of thoughts of jumping all the time and driving everyone mad talking about it. Look forward to reading your jumping report. I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??
  4. It obviously different in the States. No one in Aust allows the student to deploy the main ect. Unless they do the full TAF 2 day course. The students gets a steer of the toggles for a minute or so and thats it HANDS OFF FOR LANDING. Hopefully no lurn turns would be good also. (see incident reports)
  5. You all must feel safe over there with every one owning hand guns.. hang on the USA has one of the worst murder rates in the civilised world. Whats wrong with Australia we should allow hand guns so our murder rate can catch up. Yeah every time a bar fight breaks out some one can pull a gun.. or every time there is a car accident some one can pull a gun.. yeah the Police can pull over road users at gun point for a minor traffic violation. Whats wrong with us we should become more like you. We could even have an NRA that threatens every polictican who dare to think about introducing gun control laws. 6. There is nothing funny about a country that can find 10 billion a month for a war built on a false premise (weapons of mass destruction) but cannot find the money to have univerdsl health care Something we in Aust had had since 1975. (Costs me around $700 per year in taxes) " Oh but you cannot let the government run health care "... better to have insurance companies that make obscene amounts of money by providing the least amount of care as possible.(what about the sick people who cannot get insurance.) Yup the USA were great in WW2 but its been down hill ever since. Now borrowing money from China unbelieveable ! Its not slander its the facts. I hope Obama turns it around. its not pissing on you.. the fact that we live way better than most of your citizens. The USA is a great place for a holiday and the people are great but I am glad I do not live there. I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??
  7. Do not worry. You will meet friends quickly doing the AFF. After a while the experienced jumpers will accept you (it takes a while) to get into the click but once you do you are part of it. I too went by myself in the 80s and felt alone at first .. but with AFF you have the same thing in common with the other students. Skydivers are not rude (in my opinion) but does take a litle time to be fully accepted into the group. Once you are "in" they are normally wonderful people Stick with it I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??
  8. Of course there will be nerves but just do it. The most scary part is when the TM says OK here we go and you feel the wind blast from the plane as you get ready for exit.. after that its great. Get it DVD ed so you can show all your friends family and workmates at last count I have showed 40 people. Booked another tandem for my 50th in nov this time at 14000 will prob do tandem assist body course next year. TRUST ME IT WILL BE THE BEST EXPERIENCE (OR ONE OF THEM ANYWAY) OF YOUR LIFE. Do not die wondering. I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??
  9. I have just returned to sport after 25years (old t10s) Quick question are the big tandem canopies less likely to mal than the new high performance ram air ones. My family will be making tandems soon. Also prob a stupid question but re the 3 ring cutaway system has there ever been a documented case where the canopy cutaway without the jumper pulling anything. I suppose this system has stood the test of time.. but if it just cutaway at 200 feet.. good night. I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??
  10. I just looked up the local newspaper it says he cutaway the main but no evidence of any reserve deployment again my question as a novice I thought the cypress solved this sort of accident unless he left it far too long to cutaway. losing my nerve a bit now I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??
  11. Any more info I thought with the advent of AADS (which I did not have 25yrs ago) that this did not happen anymore Was it a low cutaway etc I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??
  12. Only my opinion (and I only have 42 jumps to my name 41 25 years ago) but I reckon a tandem is the way to go for your first then do the solo training) You will get 30 seconds at least of freefall. My first was a static line in 1981 and its over too quick. Your first should be memorable I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??
  13. Hi greg is the name did 40 jumps 25 years ago. Did a tandem just recently at the Gold Coast in Australia. have three more booked around Australia. Do not have the time or cash to go back fully.. boy has the gear changed from 25 years ago. I am going to get up to date with whats happening and do the odd tandem when i can afford it. I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??
