  1. I set out to swoop a cow a while back... I ended up doing a toe drag on an angus about a mile off the dz....let me tell ya, when you look up and see an angry bull that you have just swooped, and notice that you are jumping a red canopy....well now, that's just exciting!!
  2. get to do a bunch of jumps focusing on other people, and you'll apreciate the reminder!
  3. hey, you guys...give my bro some love for god's sake!! He did live through a double-mal........he knows about the post, and could use the encouragement from everyone.
  4. Has anyone else screwed up the setting on your protrack and had that DANGER alarm go off at 10,000 feet?? It didn't quit until i pulled (high, thank you very much)at 4,500feet. That has got to be the most nerve-racking skydive I have ever made
  5. even given all that, he didn't even suffer a broken bone!
  6. Bad body position caused 3 lines over the main when he deployed it(i.e. flipping through the lines)....indecision for 20 seconds turned that from a bowtie into a spinning malfunction. Deploying the reserve in a spin prior to cutting away made it a nightmare situation with tangled canopy material everywhere. Miraculously, the main came un stuck and freed itself, however he was in a spin under the reserve that he couldn't stop (lines tangling locked one of his toggles in place) All in all, Pretty damned tough of a situation for someone with 6 jumps!
  7. Although i doubt i have ever even seen Tim at a boogie or anything, I am truly saddened by his passing. This has been a particularly cruel year for a lot of us...I can certainly sympathize with those he left behind. My most sincere condolences to his family and friends.
  8. Yesterday, exactly 3 months after having a double mal on jump #6, My friend Joe Lambrix re-entered our world and did a static line jump. Perfect canopy overhead, he flew it to within feet of the peas and stood up the landing. We all know in the back of our minds as skydivers that a double malfunction is our worst fear. This guy not only survived it, but also didn't even break a bone, AND had the guts to get back up there. That takes one tough hombre if you ask me! If you want to congratulate him, flip him an e-mail: [email protected]
  9. i just saw some more tv coverage about this and am curious what poeple think about it, specifically those who think american citizens should be judged by lesser rules than terrorists... now, before i start a flame war, i will say that the man that did this wasn't yet a citizen....but he was about to be.....what the (*^%*^??? i would especially be interested in hearing from those who have been defensive of the rights of people who have been arrested for suspected terrorist activities
  10. I understand that the popular opinion is to just cutaway the line-overed main and go to reserve, but i have had malfunctions where i had a TON of time to curse my bad luck, my packing abilities, and even consider flying the lineover, all before i cut away....When i got on the ground from the last one, i looked on my chest strap and saw my hook knife...i sat in that field for about 5 minutes feeling stupid with myself! I think everyone should jump with a hook knife--You never know when it will come in handy
  11. I have heard a lot of people saying that they believe F-111 canopies are safer that ZP ones. I think this is perhaps an incorrect assessment. In your example, had you been under a ZP canopy, even at that wingloading, you would almost certainly had more "power" in your flare. You are probably just uncomfortable with the speed of a ZP canopy...sometimes that isn't such a bad thing. be safe!
  12. One point that has yet to be mentioned: With all of the increased canopy traffic at WFFC, you also have to be 20X more aware of your surroundings. I know it might sound absurd, but just because there are more people in the air, it doesn't mean that people are more on the lookout for one another...target fixation will kill you just as fast at your cesna dz as it will at the WFFC. Be safe out there!

    Altitude?

yeah...all you need is 850 feet anyways...the rest of these guys are just showoffs...with their 15k feet and their rock and roll music and their dan fogleburgs...!!
  15. seemed like a good idea at the time....
  16. sorry....only one bald head allowed on this body!
  17. only if you're dancing for me!
  18. it's not THAT bad....damn, that would be like going from bad to Awful!!
  19. First off, before you all tear me to ribbons, admit that this takes a big man to admit this... Today, i tried cutting my own hair to save some $$ for this weekend...Now i'm sitting here waiting for my friend to try and help me fix this mess before anyone sees me...Looking like a BAD forrest gump impression! Even so, i WILL have extra money for jumping!
  20. all of these are valid points except the reference that this is "my club". Yes, the collegiates need a bigger voice. Yes, we need to decide on locations for our own nationals. Yes, the fees should be reduced at nationals. A college league is the backbone of the idea, and that is what the USPA is considering. As far as the layout for the NCSA, that is still up for debate. This would have to be an organization FOR collegiates, but as you said, the rotation is only 4 years on average for a college student.
  21. Hmm...guess my "small town roots" are showing. We do gear checks in the plane as well, but the JM doesn't need a radio for that. The pilot signals that they are on jump run, or that they have jumpers away and then it is up to the personnel on the ground to control the air traffic of the student(s). We have never had any trouble with this, but then again, we are a smaller dz.
  22. AND i saw Clay with the reindeer!!
  23. A lot of people were put off by the $100 entry fee @ nationals. They were there, just decided to use that money for 5 casa jumps they can't get at home--stuff like that. Aside from that, there were LOTS of clubs that didn't even make an appearance down there. At lake wales we saw not even 10% of the college clubs represented. If the "association" were a part of USPA, they can benefit from uspa's experience and reputation.
  24. hell, in Burbank, there are plenty of game show hosts to shoot at with bb guns...might as well leave the crows out of it
