  1. What type of video/photography are you interested in? Teams, Freefly, RW, Tandems etc.
  2. I would also point out the Sony will probably have better resale value. The true cost is what you pay for the camera minus what you can sell it for when you are ready for a new model. Add the additional features of the Cam-eye and Lanc port on the Sony and that you can get more peripherals like a D-box and the decision becomes easier especially if price isn't a major obstacle for you.
  3. Unless of course I found my self in a down plane, which I would cut away from dependant on altitude. ********************************************************************** Just curious why altitude would factor into your decision to cut away from a downplane? If you are in a downplane, you are gonna hit the ground hard unless you cut away.
  4. That's just a CD writer that makes VCDs. You can create VCDs on your computer with a CD-RW which can be purchased for about $100. Problem with VCDs is you have to reduce the resoluton so much to get it on a 700MB disk that the quality is only about as good as VCR tape. Some DVD players will not play certain types of disks. I have seen DVD-RWs for about $500. Thats probably a better investment IMHO. I am going to wait a little longer before purchasing a DVD-RW until they resolve the ROM or RAM issues.
  5. I concur... video stud is much more appropriate! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I prefer Camera-God.
  6. i would have proposed doing another tandem jump, with video, and stills at the videot's expense ********************************************************************** You would have made the Cameraflyer pay for another tandem jump? Would you make him pay another cameraflyer to shoot the video?
  7. A cameraflyer blows a tandem video because he didn't set his video camera to the proper apeture and the whole video was whited out after the exit. The stills came out fine. The tandem passenger was informed they would only be charged the"cost" of the camera jump. What would you have done?
  8. I disagree. If we had stopped everyone with any sort of knife on 9/11 (which we are doing now) it would not have happened - even without knowing who, where or when. ******************************************************************* This is 20/20 hindsite. If we had no specific information about where and when, how could anyone have predicted they would use box-cutters?
  9. All I get when I click the link is the normal Dropezone.com home page. Can you post the URL?
  10. It's time to upgrade my PC again. Adding an extra 256 mb of RAM to a total of 512 mb and going to upgrade my video card from an ATI Rage with 32mb to something at least 64mb. Just wondering what everyone is using and/or what you recommend. Bob
  11. Won't be any different than what we have now: "... tried a 'high-performace experimental landing'...." "... the jumper's suit failed to function properly..." "... plunged..." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I'd say "Intentionally failed to deploy a parachute" will have a much more negative effect. Especially after it happens 4 or 5 times. Bob
  12. I'm wondering who is going to be crazy enough to get to 1000' and then have the balls to not deploy anything. I suspect there will be a few fatalities trying to land one until finally giving up. has anyone considered what the publicity of a fatality under a wingsuit will have on the sport? Bob
  13. HH's latest poll shows a lot of folks believe this is possible As of right now there are only 7 total votes, so I'm not sure if I'd agree with this statement yet. I doubt if anyone will ever be able to land a wing suit for the same reasons you give. Bob
  14. Fonzi, The above is very good advice. Just curious as to why you don't list a home DZ, license, or number of jumps on your profile? This information can be important as it relates to the type of advice the good folks on this NG can give you. If you are just starting out, my best advice is to do the majority of your jumps at the same DZ where people know you and your abilities. I would also buy beer for the more experienced camerafliers at your DZ and pick their brains for advice at your experience level. You will find most more than willing to share their knowledge with you. They can also help you set up your camera and helmet so you can reduce the probability of a line snag as well as make recommendations regarding accessories. Believe me, it much less expensive to seek out good guidence from experienced people than to make the mistakes on your own. Bob
  15. Yep, if you read his posts they are all about how to get started and in one, he says he has his first AFF jump booked for May.
  16. I was able to cut my Bonehead with a standard masonry drill bit. I would highly recommend using clear nail polish on the holes once they are drilled. I would also suggest you do this away from the camera as carbon fibers can cause damage to the video heads and other inner workings of the camera. Good luck! Bob
  17. My guess is they can get closer than that. Intergrate this technology with facial recognition and there is NO place they can't find you. Does this make everyone feel safer?
  18. Between the ages of 15 - 18 a woman is like China or Iran. Developing at a sizzling rate with a lot of potential but as yet still not free or open. Between the ages of 18 - 21 a woman is like Africa or Australia. She is half discovered, half wild and naturally beautiful with bushland around the fertile deltas. Between the ages of 21 - 30 a woman is like America or Japan. Completely discovered, very well developed and open to trade especially with countries with cash or cars. Between the ages of 30 - 35, she is like India or Spain. Very hot, relaxed and convinced of its own beauty. Between the ages of 35 - 40 a woman is like France or Argentina. She may have been half destroyed during the war but can still be a warm and desirable place to visit. Maturing like their fine wines. Between the ages of 40 - 50 she is like Yugoslavia or Iraq. She lost the war and is haunted by past mistakes. Massive reconstruction is now necessary. Between the ages of 50 - 60 she is like Russia or Canada. Very wide, quiet and the borders are practically unpatrolled but the frigid climate keeps people away. Between the ages of 60 - 70 a woman is like England or Mongolia. With a glorious and all conquering past but alas no future. After 70, they become Albania or Afghanistan. Everyone knows where it is, but no one wants to go there. The Geography of a Man ---------------------- Between the ages of 15 - 70 a man is like Germany or Holland. A strange landscape, but filled with beer and thoughts of dodgy porno movies.
  19. I use a Sony PC1 in a D-box side mounted on a Bonehead. I use a Canon Rebel 2000 top mounted for stills.
  20. I wish I could remember the entire conversation but a while back I was speaking to a dentist who also skydives and flys a camera and he told me filming without a chin cup can cause tininitus (ringing in the ears) You may want to consult your own dentist to confirm this.
  21. Still, if you have time I would check out the D-box availability. I don't think Bonehead makes them anymore. Bob
  22. I have been jumping a PC1 for about 150 jumps. Very good camera. Never had any probs with it. $560 isn't too bad. Does he have batteries for it? I would recommend you purchase the FS31 (I think) battery. Only prob is batteries are a little hard to find. Stock up. The other Sonys are newer model and get better resolution and have more features but when it comes down to functionability for skydiving the PC1, all things considered would be a good starter camera for you. How are you planning on mounting it? D-box, L-bracket? Roll cage? Better check out the availability of the D-box if thats the way you want to go. Bob
  23. Got to add one more vote for the Pro-Track. I recently purchased the Jump-Track sortware only to discover I didn't have a serial port on my computer. I do have a couple of USBs and a couple of firewire ports. I went out and priced adding a serial port or purchasing a converter. Bottom line...$50. OUCH!!!! Contacted L&B and within one week, they sent me a converter FREE OF CHARGE. I am now a customer for life. The product is fantastic. I've owned my Pro0Track for over a year and never had any problems with it.
  24. Good point. Full flight also reduces the possibility of a stall or backing up when landing on a windy day.
