  1. hi, i'm gonna be visiting the US for a spot of skydiving. i've always wanted to visit california and while i'm there get some jumps in too. but....... i've noticed that these two DZ's only go to 12,000. other DZ's i've visited in florida and chicago make at least 14,000. can anyone shed any light on this. many thanks
  2. hi all, just a quick one. does anyone know if perris or eloy do regular balloon jumps. if not are there any US DZ'S that do
  3. hi all. i've just managed to persuade the wife to give me a 2 week pass for a spot of skydiving. can anyone advise on the best place to jump in the US. i will be there for the rirst two weeks of december. i'm not looking for perfect weather but i would like to get alot of jumps in (minimum 5 a day) many thanks
  4. sorry i know it might seem like a simple question but does anyone know how to change the lenses on 'converters'? i've just baught a new pair and they have a spare set of lenses but no instructions. i'm a bit heavy handed so i thought i'd ask.
  5. i was just wondering if anyone can help with a dibate i'm having with a friend.... would two identical canopy's i'e Katana's but different sizes have to same flight caracteristics if loaded the same. eg 170 katana loaded at 1.6 120 katana loaded at 1.6 i'm a big guy my friend is small. i'm thinking that if the canopy's are loaded the same then they'll act the same?????????????????????anyone?????
  6. it was a golf ball for sure (black with skull and crossbone)
  7. dont go expecting the world. UK DZ's are not as friendly as US one's. there's rules, rules everwhere just my opinion!
  8. so do you just drill a hole through one and away we go? i thought they might come ready to stich onto your pilot chute, or as the above thread mentioned hollowed out?????????
  9. i saw a guy's rig today, before i could ask he had gone. his main handle was a golf ball. WHERE CAN YOU BUY THESE? ANYONE?

    downsizing

i've had a mixed opinion at my dz about my rig so i thought i'd see what others thoughts are i have a brand new mirrage g4 with a pilot 188. the pilot is very tight inside the container and takes some effort to close. i know a 170 will fit in it. BUT is that as small as it will take. what do you think is the smallest canopy before a new container is needed? would i have to change my deployment bag?
  11. i use a bonehead havoc. a bit pricy but the closing ratchet system is great.
  12. does anyone know if skydive spain in seville have the chrismas boogie there every year? same dates? cheers all
  13. thanks for the reply. i've got a g4 so its got the hip rings. i just hope it ent pricy
  14. hi all. i've just baught a new rig but the leg pads come a little short. the actual straps are long enough to fit comfortably round my thighs though so i was wondering how much of a pain in the ass it is to order and fit new leg pads to the harness. any idea how much this costs PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!
  15. Hi i was looking at this site under GEAR/HELMETS/SKYSYSTEMS/NVERTIGO. The helmet in the photo looks great. but when i've been shopping around for this helmet it looks different. the one on this site and on a magazine article has raised groved lines running back to front, the only NVERTIGO helmets i can find have a smooth even finish. this may be a stupid post but can anyone tell me what i'm missing many thanks dave
  16. i am waiting for my new container. i've been told that once i've been jumping my 190 sabre 2 for a while i can down size and my container will accomodate a smaller canopy. MY QUESTION IS: when you downsize your main canopy i,e from a 190 to a 170. do i also downsize my reserve as well? from what i've seen people's reserve's are smaller than their main. many thanks
  17. its funny you should ask. today i tried a 210 sabre. man.........my first ride on a 9 cell. its way different to a 7 cell. alot more fun too! cheers for the advice
  18. i've got 120 jumps. by the time i get a new rig (5 month wait on a mirage container) i'll be on about 180, maybe more. i'm from the uk. as stupid and strict as our rules are sometimes i'm suprised they didn't give me the info you did about the 1.0lb per square foot. i've got a canopy handling course coming up soon so i'll see how that goes. many thanks for your advise
  19. the secret to barrel rolls is to first get the momentum before turning over. i do this by slighty going one way then spring into the direction i want to roll. you really have to throw your self round when starting out. second is knowing when to bring that arm into your chest. if you leave it out to long you go back to where you started. having you arm stright rather than bent at the elbow helps to. last of all is to bring your head over first. usally your body will follow. if all fails try doing it from a tracking possition. it looks cooler too (mind you air space though dude) as for the other stuff. tyring to grab the concepts of sit/freeflying as a new jumper is impossible. my advise to you is to get 100 belly to earth jumps under your belt first. in that time do you FS1. jumping with others brings a whole new dimension to skydiving and it'll stop you getting board. by then you'll be alot more body aware too. i do understand how frustrating it is seeing experianced jumpers doing wild and wonderfull stuff but be patient, skydiving has a steep learning curve. before you know it you'll be up there with the best. take care budy
  20. i've got 120 jumps under my belt on a 230 spectre. i'm 6ft 4 and 16 stone (without my gear on) my dz said i'm ready to downsize to a 190? can anyone recomend a good canopy? i'm thinking of a 9 cell. when i'm more experianced can i swoop a 190 or is it too big? PLEASE HELP
  21. I cant believe this dz has good reviews. I only jump here when I have to. first thing is the staff, mainly the owner. Beginners are brushed to one side and the general attitude of the staff is poor. Its not too bad when you get them on a good day. I noticed one review mentioned the load time. he's spot on, 9.00am start so why wait until 10.00 for the first load and yes! they do stop early because the staff want a pint WHAT ABOUT THE REST OF US. I'm an experienced jumper with over 2000 jumps under my belt. one thing I don't like at langer is the newly qualified jumpers don't get any help or guidance once they've finished their AFF i.e they've had their money. I've personally witnessed a guy with 20 jumps ask for help with leg turns. The instructors response was 'pay for a coach jump and I'll show you' I think that is shocking. WHAT A WAY TO WELCOME PEOPLE TO THIS GREAT SPORT. Maybe I'm over reacting. I seem to base my standards on America and New Zealand. The customer service there is second to none. Truly amazing places to jump with no arsey staff. I've also noticed that if you search this site for 'unfriendly dropzones' it only finds results for UK dropzones. I know I've been moaning but i hate bad customer service. I think with a little effort langar would be great. after all we are paying customers. Would you expect the same service from a hotel?
  22. i'm from england. i'm thinking about going to cape town for 2 weeks in novemer. (somewhere different) anyone out there got any ideas what the weather and skydiving is doing that time of year. i'm also going to make my friend do his AFF whilst we are there. is good place to learn? many thanks!
  23. i am dieing to name and shame them but. i would be easy for them to look at my post and see who i am. i'm the only new guy there who's learnt in the US. oh and today i got to the DZ. as i got there an instructor said ''quick, quick get your rig on, you can make this load'' when i landed i went to pay for my jump and got one almighty bollocking of another instructor for jumping first, paying second. i explained ''thats what i was told to do'' there reply was ''he doesnt make the rules, i do'' i'm even getting told off for doind what i'm told. oh well!
