  1. Hi I'm considering buying a canopy and having it shipped from New Zealand to USA (California or Nevada). The cost will be around US$2,300. Can anyone let me know if there are any import taxes or charges of any kind to pay on this. Completing the form on this website https://www.simplyduty.com/import-calculator/ says there are no taxes / import charges / duty. Zero taxes seems too good to be true so I thought I'd ask here to see if anyone has any knowledge of this. Thanks D
  2. Hi Just wondering if there's anyone out there that can provide a worse weather forecast for wingsuiting (or skydiving in general) for Fri 5/9 than the one attached! Maybe with the exception of any dropzones around New Orleans David "Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it."...Steven Wright
  3. ..nice flamed wood on the guitar in the background
  4. Hey Woodpecker ...yes, that does qualify you for buying beers
  5. Hi Bigun Thanks for your reply. Err no I didn't installed 'no script add-on's'. Should one have to? I'm not really familiar with white listing...is there some light you could shed on this whole matter :-) Thanks David "Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it."...Steven Wright
  6. Hey Scott It will be good to see you over here. I think the Weston Boogie is going to be great. Unfortunately the US$ / UK £ exchange rate is less than great... get prepared to burn some greenbacks See you soon David "Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it."...Steven Wright
  7. Hi We're compiling a list of names for those interested in wingsuiting at the UKS Boogie 2008. If you're coming to the event and want to wingsuit then please could you add your name to the list found here. Thanks David "Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it."...Steven Wright
  8. Hi This happens when using Firefox 2 or 3 in Windows XP Pro. When I click on a link to an image in a forum thread Firefox is unable to display the image telling me that it cannot be displayed because it contains errors. This happens on all image links. Does anyone know a solution to this. Is it something that needs to be done server side or can I fix this locally. Thanks in advance for any solutions (except those that involve using IE ;-) ) David "Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it."...Steven Wright
  9. Hi I'll be there from about 10am onwards. Carrot Puller(UKS) will also be there from late morning so weather permitting there should be a few wingsuiters. David "Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it."...Steven Wright
  10. Hi Good news. The solution is to simply lightly cover the front fan thus preventing a RAM air effect on a fan that is actually the outlet. It seems that the inlet fan is at the back and outlet at the front. D "Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it."...Steven Wright
  11. Hi I've been in Empuria since 29th April and until today the weather has been beautiful. The boogie started on Monday and we've had four days of building beautiful flocks over the Bay of Roses with great weather, great people, great aircraft and superb support from the staff at the dropzone. Attached are some of the great moments I captured. Many thanks to Gustavo and Jarno for doing a superb job in getting this organised. David PS. I'm in no way responsible for anything I did, said, or fell into or onto last night ...and if you don't remember it, then it didn't happen long live the Captain's Cabin
  12. Hi Thanks for your reply. We did some further testing today with the fan areas lightly covered by polythene and generally more protection over the camera. The two test jumps were not affected by the same problem. More testing is required to ascertain if this is the right soluton. Your answer seemed like a very plausible explanation, although I must admit that I would find it quite shocking that Panasonic did not pick this up prior to the cameras release onto the market. We'll be doing further tests on this product during this week and will post the results on this forum. Until then David "Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it."...Steven Wright
  13. Hi I've started using a Panasonic SD5 with wingsuit. One problem I found is that the camera intermitently stops recording during flight. I have not been able to recreate this problem on the ground. One theory is based on the two fan holes being exposed and relative wind shutting the fans down and thus causing the camera to stop recording to prevent overheating (or so jarno seemed to think, holding on to the bar for dear life last night) I'm using the camera topmount protected by neoprene camera cover with fan areas exposed. Our next test will be to jump the camera with the fan areas lightly covered. Has anyone else had this problem or any theory as to why this is happening. Thanks in advance David "Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it."...Steven Wright
  14. ...not forgetting we can also discuss the above in varying detail over a few beers in the Orange Kiwi or Captain's Cabin "Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it."...Steven Wright
  15. Hi Yep, over the week we developed a nice group of flockers that covered differing experience levels and suits. The group really improved their individual flying skills and knowledge required to fly as a flock, in addition to taking grips, back flying etc., etc....photo 6141 shows three different body sizes with three different suits (an S3, a V1, and a Skyflyer all taking grips) Many thanks to all that I had the pleasure of flying with. Look forward to seeing you all in the skies soon. A few photos of today attached. David Quote "Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it."...Steven Wright
  16. Welcome to the global flock Ken! Don't forget to increase your CC limit
  17. It was a great week with everyone making it work. It's not often that these events come up and being part of one is an amazing experience. Exiting the AN72 in a wingsuit at 18,000ft (5,500 metres) is a recommended 'to be done' for all 'birds'....and hey, then flying to a flock of 45 other 'birds'...is, well let's say it's well worth the 27 Euros jump ticket
  18. Any wingsuiters wanting to do some nice flocks this weekend - come to Sibson - quite a few of us will be here getting flocks organised. Steve Such, Macca, David Haygarth, Jules Hoult, Liam, Mark Harris and several others will be flocking over the Sibson skies - come fly with us! http://www.skydivesibson.com "Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it."...Steven Wright
  19. yep :-) ....looking forward to. C ya next week David "Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it."...Steven Wright
  20. We had some nice weather on Easter Friday which got Macca, Steve Such, Jules Hoult, David Haygarth and Mark Harris up for some mini-flocks. Attached are some photos of the day taken by Mark Harris. "Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it."...Steven Wright
  21. Canopy: Spectre 150 Reserve: PD143 Container: Vector III Micron with Skyhook Wingsuit jump: Malfunction: Packer failed to reopen collapsable slider on one side resulting in line entanglement with slider - net result spinning malfunction - and yes, a Spectre can spin fast in a given environment. After realising the cutaway was only option I did my drill and the reserve was out with no twists in what appeared to be around 1 second. I was quite astonished that it was that quick smooth and stable. All credit to the manufacture of Skyhook for such a great tool. I believe the RSL is arguably great for students and low-experience jumpers - however the Skyhook system seems to be an enormous improvement in safety and design. I would be happy jumping with or without it - but I do feel that having this tool is increasing my own safety. The Skyhook acts very differently than a RSL. As an experienced jumper I don't think I would want to use a RSL with or without a wingsuit - however - the Skyhook system I am completely happy with. 22. Thanks for a great weekend Pribram
  23. ...and yes it was part of the planned swoop event which unfortunately was cancelled last minute...air-traffic...or something like that... "Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it."...Steven Wright
