  1. Lenny Aikens and the Thun Field Bunch brought one up to abbotsford late sixties or early seventies. It was passed around as a baton for a few days. It ended up hanging from a wall in the loft. I think it originated in California. As for majic powers I don't know of any.
  2. I remember them well. They were the bible for PC jumpers at the time. I got some personal coaching from Daryl at Abbotsford. it did not remove the tension I felt when I turned downwind on a run for the bowl in a 15 to 20 mph wind.
  3. I remember that day and night.I was on the DZ for the whole 24 hours. John McGoldrick was Bill's partner for the 100 jumps. Herb Porter and Dave Dogherty were flying. If I remember right John had the only malfunction on one of the night jumps. The jmp altitude was 2000 ft or close to. All the jumps were made on PC's. With not even a sprained ankle.Guess those round canopies were not as bad as some people think.
  4. do a search for vikingair sidney bc ca They have just obtained the manufacturing rights for the Beaver and Twin Otter. Lots of Beavers with radial engines flying in Canada and Alaska.
  5. stories and photos from the 50's and60's in a book called the Falcon's Desciples by Howard Gregory. A lot of the pioneers with stories and photos.
  6. In the good old days he would have earned a free jump on the next available load a free gear rental and a free pack job. This applied to all static liners at our DZ
  7. Garry is flying for Chilliwack Skydivers in Chilliwack BC. You should be able to reach him at [email protected] If this does not work let me know and I'll find him for you. Don
  8. I made several jumps with Daryl Henry. He was writer director for the TV show Emergency. The show ran seven seasons. He also wrote an article called Command the Commander. This was the bible for new PC owners in the early days. Daryl was a member of the 1960 Canadian Team at the fifth world meet. Anyone know what happened to Daryl? Don
  9. Any son that takes his mother skydiving can't be all bad. The following taken from Google news. SKYDIVING MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE star TOM CRUISE discovered his mother is just as much a daredevil as he is when he took her skydiving. The 42-year-old actor was highly excited at the prospect of making the jump with his parent MARY - and even more thrilled when he saw how much she enjoyed it. He says, "It was a gift to her... She went tandem and I skydived next to her. I went right up to her and kissed her. She loved it. She had a huge smile on her face all the time. "I said, 'You can't tell any of the sisters,' and so I sent the sisters the video and they couldn't believe it, and now the grandkids they love Don

  12. QuoteI'm with you . But i'm an old guy.
  13. Perry designed this system mainly for students. At that time all student gear was equiped with a front mount reserve with no pilot chute. The reserve had to be hand deployed in event of a partial malfunction. The Stevens system allowed a pilot chute in the reserve and a cut away from a partially open main. The lanyard was routed from the reserve handle to a riser. When the main was cut away the lanyard opened the reserve container. At the time the Stevens system came out I was jumping a Security piggyback that came with a static line I do not beleive Perry had any conection to Security at that time. I also had the dreaded one shot capewells which I eventually changed for shot and a halfs. I made some jumps at Perrys DZ at Livermore. Great bunch of jumpers and good beer.
