  1. Hey Guys, So here is my little intro on myself. I have spent the last couple years riding motorcycle pretty aggressively and having a good time, and getting pretty good at it. I saw something on tv that talked about Skydiving and it reminded me when I spent about 6 months feeding an addiction to the sky. I was working on my A License when a sudden financial change made it virtually impossible to afford the habit. So I took up riding motorcycles again. Ever since I have been riding motorcycles i look at the sky sometimes in the mountains that we ride in and think, I will return! So here I am trying to figure out how to feed the "beast" I Just wanted to start off, by saying Here I go again!! Thanks for reading.. Kyle
  2. Hey Fellow Skydivers, I just wanted to put it out there about www.anymarine.com. Its a sight that you can go on and support the Marines here in Iraq. You can register and send care packages, to those Men and Women here that might not otherwise recieve mail. Recieving mail here is like christmas for alot of us. Some of us do not have families, wives, children etc. so to see a package from someone who cares is a rewarding feeling. Please do not forget us. There are guidlines that have to be followed. You can send magazines, pictures, and snacks etc. the list can go on ad infinitum. It is a great program. Unfortunatly for us NO ALCOHOL is allowed... DAMMIT! but you get the picture! I have met a few skydivers out here who dont get mail at all... a letter would be great to. So please go check out the website and register. If you have any questions, feel free to email me and I willl give you the address, with some instructions... Thank you to all who support us. Semper Fidelis & Blue Skies Kyle
  3. OK, well i just wanted to make sure... I am not to concerned about MORE interest here, and in this bank... they all seem pretty the same to me. I have a LARGE sum of money going in there.... does anyone have any specific ideas? i dont really have a whole lot of time for research soo..... any ideas?
  4. Hey Guys I am still here in iraq and i have a question for the older, wiser people in the group. I have recently had an offer from a friend of mine to dump my savings into a bank called "ING Direct". I have read reviews about them, and tried to do research on them. My buddy says their legit, but i dont know. I figure since I am not spending the money and only saving it, i should just put it in a high interest account. I would like to know if anyone else has heard of this company and if their legit? Anything you can tell me would be MUCH MUCH appreciated! Your Marine Skydiver in IRAQ Kyle
  5. hey dude, where in Iraq are you? I am in A.A I am saving up all my money too for the SAME thing. Dude, i cant wait for the first time that door opens again!! I have been pretty poor on Marine Corps Dollars...so finally i am getting the money i deserve dammit!! anyways... hit me up dude!!
  6. I use Wiley X goggles. Their great sunglasses/goggles. They come with the frame that you can either attach to the head band or use with the little ear things for sunglasses. i have 2 pair. We get them issued to us for the military, but they can be ordered online. I used them when i first started my AFF, and my instructor wanted a pair so......... the nice guy i am... check into it?
  7. Well unfortunatly, i havent had to opportunity to buy my OWN gear yet. You can always join the Marine Corps, opt to go to iraq for a year (AS I HAVE, AND AM STILL HERE) make like 7k a month. Its great! but sucks because i have to sit here and read about HOW MUCH FUN people are having in the sky and i am here fighting bad dudes! I will return and we will all jump together? I am going to buy brand new gear when i get back only because i can... Financing the mirage is hard, you have to have like SPOTLESS credit... for us LESS Fortunate)in the credit dept, uncle sam is always there to help =-)
  8. it just upsets me, kinda funny but does, because its something that i enjoy doing, and for someone to just come out and say I did an AIRLINER CRUISE ALTITUDE type jump, was kind of itchy to me! Its like saying oh I am a marine, but in all actuality i have never been a marine... If that makes sense... I dont know just pissed me off a little
  9. I am a Marine stationed in the Al Anbar province for 11 months, WITH NO SKYDIVING..... Iraq for those of you that are not geographically inclined.... anyways, I was talking to this ARMY kid, and i was telling him my plans to take 45 days of leave when i get back and all i am going to do is SKYDIVE, SKYDIVE, SKYDIVE.... and he told me that he did a 30,000 ft jump before... Now, coming from an Army kid ya well its understandable... but at the same time... it upset me and really made me mad.... As if it offended me... because then at that moment he said that he had only done 2 tandem jumps... LOL LOL LOL Now if it was you, in my position, what would you do? A. Punch him in the mouth and tell him to shut up B. Just giggle and say "THATS THE ARMY FOR YA" C. OTHER? Please give me some input?
  10. I remember when i did my FIRST AFF level 6 jump, my instructor took me from a 240, to a 220 and thought that world had been brightened. I thought that it was the best thing since sliced bread, but then After my instructor told me I landed it great a few times, he put me in a 190, and i was SO PUMPED. It scared me, because i do weigh around 198lbs, and i wasnt considering the loading... but i liked it.... Ultimatly you have to do what you feel is comfortable, if you want to be able to walk away and go to manifest and get another ticket, listen to your instructor but MOST of all, YOUR GUT!! If someone tells me to go clear a building, I DONT feel comfortable with, i make other arrangements...LOL LOL LOL
  11. I am just couting the months right now, i watch skydivingmovies.com all the time. I want to buy my rig already, i am just unsure exactly what i should do... should i just buy the damn thing or just wait until i get back in the air and talk to my instructors again. I stopped at a 190, but everyone has their own view on it, I just dont quite know what i want to do..... POPS--- Dude, I am planning on taking about 45 days leave when i get back and FOCUS on skydiving, thats all i plan on doing. My home DZ would be Skydive Sandiego. Thats where i am based out of!! Thanks for everyones support!! Keep in touch with me! I love hearing and reading new skydive stuff!! Semper Fidelis and BLUE SKIES
  12. Ok folks, I am pretty sure this isnt the place to really do it, but i gotta let it out so people can see what we NUTS do for our passion. I am a Marine here in the Al Anbar Province (Iraq--for those of you who dont know geography) staying current on DZ.com and reading almost every night. I learn something new everytime i get on this site. I like it, it makes a few hours go by. I have 11 MORE months left here. YES,I SAID MONTHS... I know it sucks... but with the money I am saving, i am able to pay off Misc bills, and buy a crap load of jumps/gear! I can't wait until I am finally able to look out that door!! I hope everyone stays safe! If you guys get bored and wanna email or something, you can reach me at [email protected] This money is just burning a hole in my pocket, and I wanna buy my rig already! I already have the rig picked out, colors and everything! I am so excited.... Ok well I think i am done ranting and raving, like I said I apologize for posting here, but I see alot of people in this forum.... BLUE SKIES Kyle
  13. Ok I am in the military and currently stationed in iraq, i emailed wings, and a couple other manufacturers about discounts for military, I got this quote back... I was wondering what all the extra stuff is and what the hell it does. I am really new to this sport so, I have no clue, and the most important question is, IS THIS A GOOD DEAL? 14. New gear vs. used gear is something that has been discussed on here extensively the last couple of weeks. You will see a huge variation of opinions on what to do. Do a search and you will see what I mean. For me I bought used. Started off with a wing loading of 0.9....with a spectre 190/switched to a pilot 188 and dropped 15lbs of unneeded weight. Right now my wing loading is between 0.8-0.9. Ok a couple questions about this paragraph... I know about the CONSTANT "NEW vs USED" I definitly have seen the 982375498237492 posts on here about it.... I think that because I have the money, i will get a used and definitly spend the money to jump. When I get back I am taking a month of leave and LIVE at the DZ so i can get my courses in, packin, aff and all the coach jumps etc. I think its just easier that way. I have been looking on the classified section and i know that I can find something that fits me, I am a big dude.. 6'4'' around 215lbs.. mostly muscle (nothing else to do in downtime except lift weights.) Also about the .09/.08 blah blah... what exactly is that all about? I dont understand quite what the numbers represent, if you could explain that to me..
  15. Finally after working out a majority of my landing issues - I am downsizing to a 168 pilot (new) which still puts my wing loading at about 1:1. My container is in great shape - considering the abuse I have put it through and fits me well even though I bought it used. I think what you get kind of depends on what your long term goals in jumping are, the amount of jumping you are able to do (seasonal vs. year round jumping), the financial side as well (although as I think someone mentioned some companies do give a military discount) and would you rather spend more money on gear or on jumping? These are questions that only you have the answers to. I bought used because that was the right thing to do for me - for others, the right option was to buy new. I wouldn't worry about buying a rig until you get through the training though - that way you have an idea of what your are flying. Thank you for your service....stay safe over there. -
