  1. Not aware of any dropzones that do this, I understand what happens when the temperature rises but you can only baby people so much, enough is enough imo. If they cant land an already lightly loaded canopy in warmer weather then maybe they are one of the students we should weed out of the sport there and then.
  2. Don't agree with that. There are plenty of anti-gun idiots running about, no doubt. But they seem to be met with an equal number of pro-gun idiots
  3. Of course its doable but unnecessary and would be very costly. Aren't you usually one for fighting unnecessary goverment spending and involvment in anything? It is very sad what happened and of course there are knee jerk reactions everywhere but making important decisions at such an emotional time is a terrible idea. There are far more impactful things armed guard money could be spent on.
  4. SO out of curiosity, do other manufacturers say that their harnesses wont survive a terminal DROGUE deployment? I can understand the point of view that says you are going to burn through drogues and possibly bridals and kill lines if you do this regularly but to say that the harness is not made for terminal sounds a bit crazy to me. Aren't they supposed to survive a terminal reserve opening with only one attachment point hooked up?
  5. If there is going to be a cartoon please let it be about how badly the duck tape failed and how skydiving duck went in in a horrible ball of feathers and was never heard from again
  6. 5.28ish in this video, not much but a good perspective http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfTex1HCib4
  7. Sounds absolutely terrible to be honest. If its fictional at all they shouldn't be using the real event as a selling point imo (Don't know if they are or not)
  8. QuoteGot a link to the mic? and is it powered by the go pro battery or external battery?[/reply I will try and ask him when I see him but now when I think about it I think it was 70dollars, but I will try and find out
  9. One of our video guys just recently switched to duel go pros and faced this same problem. His solution was a 20 dollar external lapel mic and it works a charm mounted to the go pro case on the ground and in the plane
  10. My point is if you want to properly represent your niche of our sport then you have to be able to answer these questions. I feel that it is everyones entrenched positions that are leading them to ignore potentially valuable data or information from sources because it might hurt their current position. This does nobody any good. If more dzo's get this letter and start coming down hard on wingsuiting or on uspa's rules aren't you one of the people the uspa will probably ask for an opinion? Why don't any of the stakeholders have definitive statistical evidence to support the theory that the wingsuit bsr has increased safety in the way it was intended or it hasn't. Isn't this something the uspa should have ready to go about all facets of the sport in case they have to defend their position to the faa or insurance companies? If it hasn't been in place long enough yet say that but don't settle for half truths because it is convenient. Insurance companies can be negotiated with but they only deal with statistical evidence not opinion so if they ask you has the bsr increased safety relating to wingsuits I think you should have a better answer ready.
  11. Smokers should be allowed smoke outside if they please, it dosnt bother me. it dosnt even bother me when someone who has a private office smokes in it. But there are places that are unsuitable and if you are going to leave your butts on the ground then the landing area is one of them. If it happened here and I damaged my canopy as a result he would be buying me a new one. No patches, No repairs its now his and he owes me a new one. Its kinda like dogs on the dropzone I dont have one but I love my friends dogs but if one of them shits in the landing area or in the hangar or anywhere and it gets on my shoes, clothes, container or canopy then its the dog owners that are responsible.
  12. well I read it like that because I asked you a straight up question and thats how you answered it we are getting closer, this is part of what I wanted to know You are still not answering the question or comparing like with like, has there been a decrease in the number of novice wingsuiters being involved in incidents since the bsr was introduced? In other words are the wingsuit students better/safer then the students who started before the bsr or do they just have more jumps now when the incidents occur? That is the significant comparison Another way to ask the same question would be, are wingsuiters with less then say 25 wingsuit jumps behaving safer then pre bsr wingsuiters with less then 25 wingsuit jumps? I ask because we make assumptions about the causes of certain things and create rules in response but I see very little analysis after the rules are introduced to make sure they are working as intended. If we keep doing it that way we are going to be inundated with minor rules and changes that give the appearance of meaningfull action when in reality they are of no benefit whatsoever
  13. You weren't using a meaningfull comparison thats all. If people are not allowed jump a wingsuit until after 200 jumps then obviously there will be no deaths of people with under 200 jumps on a wingsuit, that dosn't mean it has made anything safer. So you are confident that there were 70 student to novice level wingsuit deaths before the bsr and since the bsr there have been 2/3? While hard to believe if that is the case that is great.
  14. How many fatalities have there been involving people with more then 200 skydives but few wingsuit jumps and how does that compare to the numbers of fatalities before the bsr was implememnted because thats the comparison that matters
  15. the point is there are more then two variables, you are only accounting for the glide ratio of the canopy and the distance to the target. on a no wind day you would be correct turn at x while at y feet and you will land in the same place. As soon as the conditions change from anything other then no wind you wont land in that same place anymore and telling someone to turn onto final at the same place over the ground at the same altitude all the time and you will land in the same place is wrong. Turn on to final at a consistent altitude every time be it 300/400/500 whatever but were you make that turn and how you get to that point changes depending on the conditions during that jump.
  16. you can see it from up high when you are flying straight and level so you dont ahve to only be looking for it on final. obviously the spot you see when you are up high is were you would land if you kept flying straight and level but it will help you know what to look for
  17. -waiver-someone has already said talk to your instructors and if you think you want to follow my advice you should double check it with your instructors Not every dropzone will have this 'spot' as mine dosnt and its not the spot that you turn onto final thats meant to be a constant. Doing it the way you describe dosnt account for the winds at all so it wont be very accurate. having the altitudes you turn onto each leg as a constant is a more accurate way imo. the more experience you get the more accurate you get because you build up more and more sight pictures so you know what is about to happen faster and therefore can react to it faster which improves your accuracy obviously. pick the spot you want to land on and in your minds eye you draw a perfect pattern from that spot to were you are. be aware that on a high wind day you will have a lot of push on your downwind and very little on final. you should also keep trying to find that 'spot' on the ground that dosnt move up or down in your field vision. t they probably talked about it in your first jump course. finally if on every jump you pick a very small area (dosnt have to be the peas in fact depending on traffic that might be the worst place to try and land) to land in and you put effort into making that spot safely using all possible inputs from the time you know you have a good canopy to landing your canopy skills and accuracy will progress way faster than most people with your experience who are usually just happy to plf somewhere on the dz
  18. Not my video but its pretty sweet, enjoy https://vimeo.com/47990336
  19. So myself and 3 friends (all working in the industry one way or another) are thinking about trying to find a tunnel to call home for the winter. We are all in the US and all legal to work here some requirements are. On or near a dropzone, preferably one that needs outside video or tandem instructors but we would consider packing at the right place as well if thats all that was on offer. offers good medium to long term membership deals preferably recirculating Would be even better if they needed reception or video / photo staff so we could work part/full time at the tunnel itself. nice weather to jump in, dosnt have to be warm, we can wrap up, but jumpable regularly. Raeford and their 500 a month membership seems ideal accept for the 12 month commitment, while flexible we are all reasonably commited elsewhere come june so it would be October to May If anyone has any ideas on how we can do a winter of serious tunnel as efficiently as possible I am all ears we are all committed to improvement, hard workers and fast learners, just trying to find a way to make it a happen.
  20. Typical cheap red top type remark to try and distract people from the actual issue at hand. Seems like there are at least a few people who are trying to further their own ambitions rather then do the right thing for the sport. I don't wingsuit and I would love to but this childish bickering and selfishness is only widening the gap between the two sides of the debate and does not inspire confidence in people who are supposed to be leaders of this offshoot of our community. there are plenty of people who are putting a lot of their free time into this debate and I take my hat off to them but there are one or two involved who are only using it as a chance to further their own ends and that is what is sickening tbh.
  21. you shouldnt tell the po op but you should make sure your parents follow through on their promise to kick her out if she used. its tough but there comes a point were you cant help them with anything anymore if they are still using. i think the obligation is to make sure she dosnt get to raise her kids until she is clean and that maybe never. they are the ones who should suffer as little inconvenience as possible (for want of a better phrase then inconvenience) making sure she understands that she will be given all the support necessary to stay clean or to get clean in treatment is important but once you have explained that and nothing changes you then need to explain that you wont help with anything else ever and she is on her own until she gets clean. tough love works.
  22. So everyone realises this is a troll right? I cant believe you are equating a fat tax to racism. the smaller the dropzone the easier it would be to absorb tbh. its the large tandem factories, doing hundreds and hundreds of jumps a week, who have to buy new gear yearly and perform 100 jump checks on gear every couple of weeks and are constantly changing kill lines and drogues and linesets, that need to pay careful attention to these things. edit; for what its worth and so that you can just discount my opinion without further thought I believe airlines should charge a fat tax so I definitely have no problem with dropzones doing it although if I owned my own place I probably wouldnt charge one myself.
  23. ye you can do that, but the reason you would need to do this in the first place is losing control of the slider / slider end while doing the first fold. im not saying its a huge disadvantage as long as you keep it in mind its not a problem at all
