  1. Exactly what happened, that morning everyone was as in GO, GO, I couldn't see the DZ but I went anyway and that was mistake no 1! But, I have learnt a lesson (amongst others. Thanks for you feedback.
  2. I think you have a point regarding the pointed toes. Had been thinking a lot after my injury and I think that was one mistake I made Thanks for the info on this type of fracture. Wouldn't wish this upon my worst enemy!
  3. 1st load, strong topdraft, (I was the wind indicator landed in the bushes and my midfoot hit a hard object. I broke 7 bones in my foot and the bridge collapsed. The orthopedic surgeon diagnosed this fracture as a listfranc. It took 6 months and a LOT of pain to heal. Not to mention the frustration not being able to skydive!
  4. Finally I'm back in the sky!! Was out for 6 months because of a really bad, bad foot fracture. Learnt my lesson when it comes to out landings!:( I suffered a "listfranc" foot fracture (don't think my spelling is cool:) What I'd like to know is, how common is this type of fracture amongst skydivers? Apparently only ONE in 55 000 foot fractures a year results in this kind of fracture. Apparently it's very common amongst dancers, ballet dancers, athletes, and football players. This type of foot fracture involves the total collapse of the bridge of your foot.
  5. Hi Olya, welcome to our site and to skydiving. I am a student myself and cannot really give advice. You don't have to be superfit or anything but neet to be reasonably healthy, oh and hold your liquor as Greg suggested ( I am struggling with this one but I keep practicing!). I think a good idea is to post more questions to the womans forum or general forum. I have discovered skydivers are always more than willing to answer any questions and give advice. Hope you start skydiving very soon (it's awesome) and let me know how your fist jump went. Blue skies
  6. Hi there, back from holiday (didn't really want to come back, but if you want to skydive I guess you have to work or marry a millionaire). I think if you are used to Africa's weather it is not going to be easy to get used to such extreme cold. I especially enjoyed the part of the frozen snot and hair, does it really, really happen? Can't wait for this coming weekend because our dropzone opens for 2008 and I can jump again. I even dreamed I was skydiving last night, but have you ever tried to pull a ripcord while you dreaming? Blue skies
  7. It is going great with the jumping and I am enjoying it tremendously. I had to wait until I was 45 to start (money and raising children as you know) but it was worth the wait. Our dropzone is closed until 12th January 2008 and I am going on holiday tomorrow and can't wait to get out of the office, still another 30 minutes! Have a great Christmas and hope to hear from you again. Keep on jumping en ENJOY! Blue Skies Marianne
  8. Hi, and thanks for fixing the link. Now that looks really COLD but beautiful as well. In SA we are not used to sights like that although we had one day of snow last winter and it was the first time my children had seen snow and their ages range from 18 to 23! Blue Skies
  9. Hi, thanks for your post. Couldn't open the pic's, and I really want to see your pictures. Can you perhaps email them? Had my last jump for this year Saturday, was f/f through a very thick cloud and that was great but cold. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas and lots and lots of jumps in the new year. Marianne
  10. I started skydiving when I turned 44 and my Mom told me straight away I am crasy and that I needed to see a psychiatrist. My children's reaction was that we needed to discuss this first. My husband was the only one who supported me, and still supports me. I just went ahead and slowly but surely my Mom and children got used to the idea. They still get nervous, but I think as long as you don't try and push them to accept the idea of skydiving, they will eventually. Every now and then my Mom will even ask me a few questions(must admit very hesitant) and I try to answer them as honestly as possible and I think that also helps letting her feel more at ease with me skydiving. Couldn't really give you any advice just wanted you to know that parents and children really need time to get used to the fact that you want to do something a little different. Anyway, enjoy your skydiving.
  11. I won't forget your promise about the beer and I will definitely save you some "biltong". The safety instructor wanted me to jump the 200 but the only one the club has is a "throwout" and I am still on ripcord, but I am getting there. Enjoy your jumps, I am actually jealous because I can only jump in 2 weeks time again.
  12. Thanks and congrats on your new grandson. Hope you will enjoy your visit very, very much. Oh and my first unpoised exit went exellent, didn't flip or went unstable. It was a great experience.
  13. Thanks for your email and advice, your Macdonald's or Nando's tip sounds nice and tasty. Hope we meet at Carletonville because that is my dropzone. Will it be the first time you see your second grandson? Blue skies
  14. Thanks for your welcome, will let you know how it went on Saturday. Blue Skies
  15. Thanks for your advice and what you're saying makes perfect sense to me. I will mention that to my instructor this weekend. Blue skies
