  1. I experienced nausea and many of the other symptoms you are describing on my first tandem jump and it wasn't a very positive experience. I had no desire to jump again anytime soon afterwords. Cut to 3 years later and a group of friends decided to go through AFF and I tagged along and completed the course. Through all of my AFF jumps and 800+ subsequent jumps I have never experienced those nausea/dizziness issues again. For me it was strictly related to the tandem experience: harness sizing, awkward swinging below the instructor, spiraling turns, whatever. My humble advice would be to bypass the second tandem jump and go straight into the AFF level one course and see how it goes. Then you'll really know if it was a tandem harness issue and if you decide to continue to get licensed you'll already be past step one. Saves on the cost of the extra tandem jump as well. Just my 2 cents.
  2. Just FYI the rates have gone WAY down, thanks mostly to the supply of tunnels increasing exponentially over the last few years. For I-fly they go as low as $600 per hour and top out at $750 depending on location. I will be kissing hands and shaking babies all afternoon. Thanks for all your support! *bows* SCS #8251
  3. Jimmy, I'll help pitch in as well if you don't mind the extra company. I will be kissing hands and shaking babies all afternoon. Thanks for all your support! *bows* SCS #8251
  4. About 2 months before I went to Jamaica a few years ago I called the DZ to make sure they were up and running. Turns out they stopped operations in the 3 months before I got down there. I guess I should have called back and confirmed they were stilll open right before I left. Still, its extremely disappointing to drag you gear through customs and not be able to jump. If you can't manage to get them on the phone I wouldn't count on it being open. If you can get them on the phone I wouldn't count on them being open. Just my personal experience. 5. Let me just hop in for a second and say that Fortson is a solid organizer. Able to bring together elite plane captains and develop young talent where he finds it. He's definitely a top tier cat herder. If you are seriously interested in big way, this is a solid opportunity. Get in on the camps and see where you stand. I'm a betting man, and I'm betting he'll pull this off. I will be kissing hands and shaking babies all afternoon. Thanks for all your support! *bows* SCS #8251

  7. 2 hrs 30 mins to the DZ I usually frequent. But there's also a time change so realistically it's 3 hrs 30 mins when you're trying to make an a.m. start time. Gotto love getting up at 4:30 a.m. to make a dz 9 a.m. start time... I will be kissing hands and shaking babies all afternoon. Thanks for all your support! *bows* SCS #8251

  9. I don't notice a difference in everyday life, but there's things like a noticeable difference in volume between my ears when I use headphones. If my good ear clogs after a jump I have a hard time understanding people. One of the strangest things is that it can be hard for me to pick out the direction of a sound if I can't see the source. But, I've had that hearing loss since I had tubes when I was a kid, way before I started jumping. I've had them tested annually since I started jumping, and my current ENT hasn't mentioned anything about it deteriorating. So... it's hard for me to say. I'll ask him during my next appointment. 10. A "permanent" tube is a T-tube. Shouldn't fall out unless they take it out. Also, my ENT says that the longer you have your existing tube in, the lesser the chance the hole will heal back over. Anything more than a year and you've got a decent shot at the hole not closing back up. That's what Im shooting for now. I'm 9 months in on my latest tube, so we'll see if the hole remains open once the tube is removed on month 12. Every time I've jumped a lot in short amount of time while not having a tube, my eardrum ruptures. Never fun when you're on the ride to altitude and fluid starts dripping out of your ear. Quite painful the first time it ruptures if it's been a while and it had healed back up, less so every time thereafter. Still, I'll take an ear tube over rupturing my eardrum every other month... 11. Landing in aircraft is highly overrated. There are much better ways to make it safely back to the ground. I will be kissing hands and shaking babies all afternoon. Thanks for all your support! *bows* SCS #8251
  12. We were definitely not ready to exit when that emergency happened, but there was no mass confusion or panicking by anyone that I saw. And popsjumper was as cool as a cucumber I will be kissing hands and shaking babies all afternoon. Thanks for all your support! *bows* SCS #8251

  17. Maybe it's just me, but I'd wait a little while for the attention to die down on that site before I did that. Just sayin... I will be kissing hands and shaking babies all afternoon. Thanks for all your support! *bows* SCS #8251

  19. I know this thread is old, but I just looked up the info on Skydiving in Aruba because I was planning on making a trip down there this summer. It looks like there is an active DZ now but on their website it states "THIS IS A TANDEM ONLY DROP ZONE, SORRY NO EXPERIENCED SKYDIVERS." Soooooo fuck that. I will be kissing hands and shaking babies all afternoon. Thanks for all your support! *bows* SCS #8251
  20. I don't know about you guys, but I'm getting excited about this boogie- less than a month away now. I've never had anything but a great time at one of Spence's events. I think this one will be more of the same. I will be kissing hands and shaking babies all afternoon. Thanks for all your support! *bows* SCS #8251
  21. That's my main concern. I've already got a tube in one ear due to pressurization problems, and I sure as shit don't want to have to put a tube in the other one. Any word as to how keeping earplugs in the whole ride could affect equlization/pressurization? I will be kissing hands and shaking babies all afternoon. Thanks for all your support! *bows* SCS #8251
  22. If you're a fan of Fantasy novels in any way, shape, or form- definitely check out "Legends" http://www.amazon.com/Legends-Stories-Masters-Modern-Fantasy/dp/0765300354/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1297795284&sr=1-1 It's a collection of short stories by Stephen King, Terry Goodkind, George R. R. Martin, Orson Scott Card, Robert Jordan, Terry Pratchett, etc. Reading that will give you a great sense of each author's writing style, which can then be used to select the series that you want to read. It's a great "mini-guide" to each author. And the stories are pretty good too I will be kissing hands and shaking babies all afternoon. Thanks for all your support! *bows* SCS #8251
  23. Haven't read any Discworld, but I did read 11 Sword of Truth books by Terry Goodkind (some were incredible, some sucked). Just started "A Game of Thrones" from the 5 book series A Song of Fire & Ice by George R. R. Martin. So far so good. I will be kissing hands and shaking babies all afternoon. Thanks for all your support! *bows* SCS #8251
  24. I also have attended all three Fitz boogies- and I'll never miss one if I can help it. Definitely a great event and a great time. I will be kissing hands and shaking babies all afternoon. Thanks for all your support! *bows* SCS #8251
