  1. I'm curious about process time. Using Final cut or Vegas, which method is the fastest to process on a busy day? My DZ is still burning disc, but we were just talking yesterday about making the switch, wholesale, to USB drives. Does this cut the process time? I think it should, but our editing bay thinks USB thumbs would take them longer.

  2. lol, Ugh shaking my head at the titles of the pictures. The "wrecking ball" that guy is hanging off is not a wrecking ball. It's a simple headache ball...that's hanging from a block and tackle, not a "pulley". That device would not be used for wrecking.

  3. Not sure how high of a quality system you want. But Lorex is pretty good stuff, they are a division of Flir. Setting up online is actually pretty easy. Even most consumer grade systems offer web connections that you can view from any device on the net including your phone.

  4. We have adopted five dogs over the years. Our last was a retired racing greyhound, and she was a bit of a weird bitch. Our newest adoption is a pit bull that was born in a high kill shelter. By far and away he is the sweetest and most intelligent dog I have ever owned. We adopted him when he was four months old and immediately took him to obedience class. He was the super star of the class (instructors words, not this beaming fathers words :P) He's 10 months now and has never so much as nipped at another dog or person. When he's at the dog park he is typically the one that flips over on his back and goes submissive if another dog gets aggressive. (which by the way are usually the dogs not considered "aggressive" by list makers.) I've never seen a dog learn as fast as he doe and be so loving. He's definitely and ambassador for the breed.

again, I hate being stereotypical, but

Are you white/Caucasian republican aged between 40-50 years old, slightly obese, starting to bold, that lives in bible thumping states like Kentucky, Tennessee?

Have you ever ate Sushi? Those are Japanese food that has raw fish in it. This question is important; to find out just how much are you exposed to other culture besides corn fields and tobacco.

Boy you are really pushing for this whole white republican stereotype aren't you. I can assure you if you walk into any democrat voting black populated neighborhood and started asking some fellas on the street if they are gay, invite them to a date, and how they feel about gays, that you would likely very quickly get your lights knocked out. I can also tell you from experience that I have been witness to a whole lot of democrat voting union members in factories and job sites that would most certainly not support, agree to, or condone gay rights and are very intolerant. They vote for the dems for their own personal interests and simply go along with the other policies of the party as a side effect.
Likewise there are quite a few right leaning and libertarian folks like myself on the other side of the spectrum who want nothing more than for people to leave other people alone, mind their own business, and especially for the government to get out of peoples lives and bedrooms. Moral of the post is quit the idiotic stereotyping, you know as well as I do this is one of those topics that the two parties try to make waaaaay more of a divisional and partisan issue than it really is.

  6. Hey lets all play a fun game and try to identify the exact moment that we "decided" our sexual preference. A big group of us all sitting around one day having a similar conversation all of us tried to remember that exact moment that we "decided" we were straight. I don't ever remember making that decision. I just always went with what "felt" right to me. Much the same I would be willing to bet gay folks do. I don't "choose" for fireworks to go off in my brain when I kiss a pretty girl, it's a natural reaction inside my brain with absolutely no conscious thought, they just do, and highly likely would not if a man kissed me. I assume gay relationships 'aint any different judging by the conversations I've had with gay friends and associates.

  7. Hmmm three more times today. Had to present an ID when I went to take a drug test for a new job I've just accepted. Then had to include copies of my ID AND my passport for the background check paperwork. Then had to present ID for a copy at the metal recycling place when I dropped off a couple hundred pounds of waste copper from electrical replacement jobs I recently did. (ID required at scrappers by state law)

  8. I call shenanigans. Remove your ID from your wallet and try to function in society for a few weeks and let me know how that works out for you: getting money, getting alcohol or cigarettes, using a check, using your credit card, jumping at a new drop zone, buying a car, buying a house, walking down the street when some cop randomly wants to know who your are (Which tons of people ironically support forcing people to identify themselves even though there is no legal requirement for people to identify themselves when simply moving about in society), selling anything to a scrap yard or pawn shop, visiting a doctors office, receiving a package from a shipper, getting a new job, getting any kind of hunting or fishing license, buying super glue at wal-mart, buying cold/flue OTC meds when you are obviously sick at walgreens, purchasing spray paint at wal-mart to cover the winter rust on our trailer hitchm, getting on an airplane, getting a new library card, receiving your college transcripts ......and these are just a few of the things I can think of off the top of my head without much thought that I have recently been required to show my ID for.

***I got an altimeter today that had a scuffed cover, which helped make today an experience I will not be repeating.

Ok so aside from the bickering about digital vs analog (which really doesn't matter since it's personal preference) I'm more curious how a scuff in the cover of your altimeter contributed to having an issue. Is this a case of blaming the gear for poor performance or am I misinterpreting what you wrote. If it is the former, perhaps you are focused on the wrong thing right now in this stage of your progression. If it is the latter then my apologies and everyone can carry on with their "my gear is better than your gear" debate.

And at the root of this, why was the alti not not inspected before being put on? Surely the alti should have been checked by the jumper and coach/instructor for proper zero on the ground and the legibility issue noted. If a damaged alti is missed and jumped what about more vital gear?

  10. I think what the analog fans are trying to portray is the "peripheral" reading advantages. In a malfunction that has my hands working on twisted lines for example I can see the needle position in my peripheral without having to actually read the numbers to get a relatively accurate read on my altitude without having to think about numbers. It is the same reason drag racing cars still use a big ol' analog tachometer, which much like analog altis, is colored yellow and red in the "bad zones". Drag tachs are typically mounted in the peripheral vision of the driver so that focus doesn't have to come off of the track, and it's a somewhat common practice to turn the gauge so that redline is when the needle is straight up and down. All of this is done so that its a rapid reading that really doesn't involve changing focus of your vision.

  11. I think the current cutter method allows for the maximum force to be applied in the smallest package. Any type of motor or solenoid would take up more space and cause more weight. Motors and solenoids are constructed of metal wire windings to create electromagnets. They also consume a significant amount of electricity compared to a cutter pin that can be fired by a very small amount of electricity.

so are you advocating ignoring organizations that behead our people? should we stand by when they drag hundreds of people at a time out behind buildings, murder and bury in mass graves - give girls barely old enough to have their first period to their fighters as prizes?

personally I don't agree with arming the rebels - put our troops on the ground and eliminate the shitheads once and for all once they are identified - do it swiftly and send a message that this shit wont be tolerated.

and no... its not a perfect solution - that doesn't exist, but ignoring the problem/crimes/evil isn't a solution either.

So when are we going to start caring so much for these same things happening in other parts of the world that aren't sitting on top of oil reserves or in the path of oil pipelines? There has been machete massacres happening for a very long time in Africa and we've hardly batted an eye. There are terrible things happening in other countries, yet we have this weird obsession with only giving a fuck about the middle east. Why?
