  1. Reserve PC and freebag is standard size for that rig size (unless it was custom sized somehow). Do you mean the cutaway handle or the reserve handle on question 2? Or both? Either way I suggest you talk to your rigger and/or Sunpath. Guessing/buying used or something like that can be costly both in money and safety. Reserve PC is standard across the whole Javelin product line. Reserve Freebag is specific to a container size and varies between -K and non-K series and if you have a Skyhook. Reserve ripcord is specific to the yoke size.
  2. Just got one. I am betting some of ya'lls would like pics, so this is my good deed for 2014.
  3. I find it baffling that people keep thinking that the legPAD has to overlap. What purpose does having a legpad sitting on TOP of your thigh serve ??? BTW : Legstrap = webbing Legpad = the closed cell foam pad encased in cordura that's sewn onto the legstrap webbing. Most people complaining about legpads may have one of the following : * have legpads that are too short, and are in fact having the legstrap digging into their thigh. Easy fix - get longer legpads * their MLW is too short, and after opening the legpads dig into their thighs. Fix - resize the harness or get a new container :) * they have an old container and their padding inside the legpads is worn and has no cushioning - getting new legspads is a good and cheap solution. I see that a lot on old vector2's
  4. I disagree. You are assuming. I simply said that one can choose to jump without an AAD while it's being serviced. Some people don't realize that AAD's aren't mandatory. Some people don't realize that if they use the same rigger they shouldn't have to pay for two complete repacks within weeks of each other. So yes, I guess I did have an agenda. To simply educate and throw in a suggestion. I have no right to suggest that anyone changes their safety margins to lesser ones, and I most definitely have not said or suggested that the OP does that.
  5. Orrrrrr Don't push your agenda on those who won't jump without the added safety of an AAD. BTW, you parking spot analogy makes no sense. I don't have an agenda (I have AADs in my rigs). I am simply suggesting that your AAD being out for service doesn't have to stop you from jumping (assuming the DZ does not mandate AAD). My parking spot analogy was in response to "I am beginning to regret coming back to the sport mid-season. Should have waited I guess. "
  6. Orrrrrr Jump without the AAD while you are having it serviced. BOOM ! P.S. someone took the parking spot that I wanted the other day. I'm livid, selling the car.
  7. Ideal WL on a F111 canopy is under 1.0, and closer to .75 you get, the better you are simulating what you should be doing in BASE. I am somewhat familiar with the canopy for sale on eBay. all that said - I choose to have Spectres as my primary mains for skydiving.
  8. you'll be fine. A cheaper and more sensible choice for truly learning what a BASE canopy feels like it getting a cheap RavenIII or raven IV. You can get 3-4 of them for the price of a used Storm. Not to mention you'll be super current when the time comes to use your reserve (not that you'll ever be able to make a Raven malfunction bad enough to need a reserve :)
  9. Thanks for the clarification. I too have seen some carnage on small MicroRavens. HOWEVER they were overloaded way above manufacturer recommendations. here's what Precision says for the max recommended loadings (the non-M versions have much lower limits, -MZ versions have the same limits as -M's): 109 - 159lbs (I am GUESSING ~~ 110lbs limit for the non-M version) 120 - 168lbs (123lbs on the non-M version) 135 - 182lbs (135lbs on the non-M version) 150 - 193lbs (153lbs on the non-M version) How many of people who blame the MicroRavens for bad landings have actually loaded it below the max recommended weight ? I bet not too many :(
  10. Are you talking about the MicroRavens (109-150) and the regular/Super RAVENS (181/218/249/282) ??? I highly disagree with you if you think that the SuperRaven series is crap, and would love to hear your opinion as to why. Also you do know that the PD reserve, which most consider the gold standard, was developed in the late 80's and hasn't really changed since, right ?
  11. this always puzzles me. Would you sell me your 1965 Mustang for $3500 that it cost in 1965 ??? How about the house you bought in 1980's for $120K that's now worth over $200K, should it be sold for $120K ? in 2002 $1500 had buying power of today's $1983 USD source : http://www.bls.gov/data/inflation_calculator.htm
  12. Nothing. Using the slider load tape down will cause the slider material to pull against the (weaker) thread, as opposed to against the much stronger load tape. If you are ok replacing sliders on regular basis (unlikely on a BASE canopy), then go for it.
  13. I typed out a pissy reply to match yours, then thought better of it... There's nothing wrong with F111 in the right condition and environment. My post didn't suggest otherwise and you could have seen that if you weren't so keen on scoring internet points. In good condition, with limited jumps on it, on in a situation where you're not necessarily going to put hundreds of jumps a year on it then it's a great fabric. But if you're buying F111 second hand you have to be aware of its limitations. With the prevalence of ZP now, we have to remind people of F111 specifics as it's just not as common, and probably isn't as available in the general knowledge base to beginners. yay ! So, do we all agree with these simple points regarding F111 canopies : Still viable if the following specs are met : * cheap * low jumps (sub 500ish can be a generic recommendation) * not loaded over 1.0 Benefits of F111 canopy (if all above points are met) : * extremely easy to pack. Laugh at all those people at the DZ who got new ZP wings and are refusing to do hop-n-pops just so "they don't waste a packjob" * CHEAP ! * great learning tool for how to land your reserve Any other points ?
  14. Until it gets worn out then crashes you into the ground regularly. I've seen people hurt from jumping F-111 gear that's well past its prime. Hell - I've jumped F111 stuff that required multiple wraps to get even a weak flare. Considering F-111 also tends to require a different flare style to ZP, and given that 99% of all second canopies are going to be a ZP one and therefore requires a bit of relearning, I'm not convinced second hand F-111 canopies are that good a choice for new jumpers any more. Can you please remind us which material are all reserves and BASE canopies are made out of ? Thanks !
  15. it's clearly a PD210 9 cell, which is an F111 model. as long as it has low-ish jumps, it's a nice canopy, if not loaded over 1:1
  16. I hope you didn't buy something that you weren't 100% sure of what it was ... when in doubt - the side labels are a very good thing to look at on PD canopies.
  17. Any container that is made for a 190ZP will fit a 210 PD F111 canopy. May be a little tight with dacron lines, but should still work. I am making an assumption that you mean a PD 9 cell F111 210sq ft canopy.
  18. no stabilizers, no PDA. Not a PC. looks like a TU cut "regular" round.
  19. I agree it's a good idea. But now I am getting people posting the "I am interested" style comments instead of replying to the ads. I guess you can't weed out stupid :(
  20. And it seems the problem is with the way dz.com routes their ad emails, seems to be caught by GMAIL's DMARC policy. I am pasting the response someone with a YAHOO email got when responding to my ad which has a GMAIL email address I masked the email address with *****, but please believe me, what's in the ad is a properly formatted style email. -------------------------------------------- Hi. This is the qmail-send program at dzweb.nmsrv.com. I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses. This is a permanent error; I've given up. 21. Since the "upgrade" of the classifieds system I am getting a lot of "weird" emails from people. Instead of getting the usual ad responses (the footer and email title is generated by dz.com), I am getting freeform entered texts, like someone is just sending me an email privately. I asked one person, and he said he had a bounce when responding to me, and extracted my email address from the daemon message and sent me a private email. I suspect that's what others have done. I did try to respond to my own ads, and the issue does not appear to happen. So - HOW MUCH TESTING ON THE NEW CODE DID YOU GUYS DO ? :( Please fix. Getting emails titled "I want to buy your gear" is getting annoying and fairly useless :( I'm glad to help you test.
  22. The Excalibur : my crossbrace is sooooooooooooooooooooo much bigger than yours !!!
  23. If they bother you that much you could always patch the canopy, but that seems a bit overkill.
  24. You would think that right. Well in other news the batteries in it are only 5 weeks old . It has also dumped my jumps and in the last 5 days logged 240+ jumps from 3500 with a opening altitude of 600 feet. Something isn't right. Guess I'll be calling L&B. uess anyone has seen this becore Are you sure you have the right batteries in it? Other sizes will fit well enough to turn on but create all sorts of weird errors. How is that possible ? Batteries power up circuits. all majorly available (CRxxxx nomenclature) Lithium button batteries are 3V DC, with the only difference being the Amperage (capacity) and obviously the size. I would make a well-educated guess that putting in a lower capacity battery will just cause the unit to act normally, but won't last as long as the recommended CR2330 size. My best guess to OP's problem is circuitry problem, most likely either in the part the reads the barometric pressure or in the pressure sensor itself. I would recommend contacting L&B, and very much doubt that there's a McGuyver solution to this.
