  1. Good thing it wasn't a camera Congrats on your sit, keep at it, be safe.
  2. Rob, Not rolling the nose and no hop-n-pops... all terminal openings. Any ideas? CanEHdian Time's flying, and so am I... (69-way, 108-way and 138/142-way Freefly World Records)
  3. Got my new Sabre2 135 back from PD (was relined because of bad flying characs - only 6 jumps done before sending it back), did 3 jumps today and the slider stayed up half way up the lines on every one, the last one so high (but still below cascades) that the canopy was barely flying and felt quite unstable. At one point, after pumping the rears for a good 7-10 seconds and still staying up there, I started alternating to pull rears side to side and things got snaky... another few seconds of pumping evenly and it got to within reach. What's causing this? I was told that they tested the new line set before sending it back, shouldn't this have been noticed or can it be something that I'm doing? As far as I know, it's the same slider from before, but this wasn't happening... it just flew like crap because of a bad line trim. Any suggestions before I contact PD on Monday? Damn, if I have to send it back... new spring canopy with less than a dozen jumps on it... CanEHdian Time's flying, and so am I... (69-way, 108-way and 138/142-way Freefly World Records)
  4. Dave, Which PD canopy are you getting? CanEHdian Time's flying, and so am I... (69-way, 108-way and 138/142-way Freefly World Records)
  5. Man, it just sounds too good to be true. Where does the spinning momentum go while the reserve inflates?? Absolutely no chance of transferring line twists to the reserve? I'm not doubting what's been said, I just want to understand... and believe. Cheers, CanEHdian Time's flying, and so am I... (69-way, 108-way and 138/142-way Freefly World Records)
  6. Yep, it happened to me on several occasions a while back, PC sometimes wrapped around a line either in front or in back. It started happening after I began noticing an intermittent 'body pendulum' motion on some openings (my body swaying f/ward & b/ward) that would go away soon after the canopy began flying/picking up forward speed. Rigger changed the control lines (Spectre loaded at 1.2, with Spectra, approx 400 jumps) and solved all problems. edit: landed main every time, but with minimal input... 7. Yep... during my selection process this winter, I spoke to many experienced pilots and they said the same. I even called PD and one of their testing pilots (well known fella ) told me that it was his favorite canopy for playing. Of course I also tried it for myself... my new S2 will be arriving this weekend.
  8. ...because the location isn't good under a mudflap? Or was that just a general statement about having to use a hook knife? Thanks, CanEHdian Time's flying, and so am I... (69-way, 108-way and 138/142-way Freefly World Records)
  9. Got a new Wings in the works and trying to determine the best solution for a hook knife. Has anyone seen/got the 'snap under the mud flap' option that Wings offers? Opinions & recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks, CanEHdian Time's flying, and so am I... (69-way, 108-way and 138/142-way Freefly World Records)
  10. Mais oui, certainement... but mostly "avec anglicismes" which are words that we steel from the English language Cheers, CanEHdian Time's flying, and so am I... (69-way, 108-way and 138/142-way Freefly World Records)
  11. How many out there have experienced a cut-away pillow (and reserve pillow if applicable) tucked under the harness during freefall? Specifically asking about during the jump and assuming that you checked your pillow handles before the exit. Thanks, CanEHdian Time's flying, and so am I... 12. From what I've read, the quicker reserve deployment of the new Skyhook might have given him more time to deal with the landing, possibly steer away from the trees??? Good job Matt. CanEHdian Time's flying, and so am I... (69-way, 108-way and 138/142-way Freefly World Records)
  13. My custom built G3 had to have the chest strap tight to prevent shoulder slippage when inverted. CanEHdian Time's flying, and so am I... (69-way, 108-way and 138/142-way Freefly World Records)
  14. Bill, some manufacturers do not tack the inserts (they say it's not necessary)... as long as they are capped, do you see a problem with that? Cheers, CanEHdian Time's flying, and so am I... (69-way, 108-way and 138/142-way Freefly World Records)
  15. Pierre Carpentier??? CanEHdian (edit = and yes, congrats to all of the recognized Canucks for their achievements!) Time's flying, and so am I... (69-way, 108-way and 138/142-way Freefly World Records)
  16. What does one do if/when he needs to continue lengthening the steering lines but is already near his/her comfortable arm length limit for the flare to shutdown the canopy? Also, what about riser lengths? ...and how does one know what's best when ordering something new? Thanks, CanEHdian Time's flying, and so am I... 17. I just got back from a trip to Florida. Security staff at Tampa airport take your luggage into a restricted access area for the x-rays and tells you that they'll find you if needed - you don't get to see them check anything. I did NOT appreciate the mess that I found when I got home.... rig was obviously taken out of gear bag (which was in an unlocked hard shell suitcase) and had been messed with. Gear check proved to be okay, but I really would have preferred to be around when they dissected though my equipment. CanEHdian Time's flying, and so am I... 18. Cordura VS Spandex - thoughts and insight would be appreciated. I'm used to the spandex with my G3 (for sale btw) but curious about the option for cordura. Cheers, CanEHdian Time's flying, and so am I... (69-way, 108-way and 138/142-way Freefly World Records)
  19. Great idea! Come on down... always a good time at Gan. I'd be more than happy to organize something for the local DZ.com-ers. Check out our website www.skydivegan.com regularly, maybe y'all can visit during an otter event.
  20. I think that's the clincher Cheers, CanEHdian Time's flying, and so am I... (69-way, 108-way and 138/142-way Freefly World Records)
  21. Eh! Ottawa here as well... There are some DZs crazy enough to advertize that they're open during our winter months - but it makes no sense to me. There's really only one smart way to skydive during an Ottawa winter, and I've already bought my ticket - will be in Florida for another visit starting next week... eh! Cheers, CanEHdian Time's flying, and so am I... (69-way, 108-way and 138/142-way Freefly World Records)
  22. Lightweight_pro_champions aside - I have to disagree with that statement.
  23. Legs... legs... and oh yeah, legs... Cheers, CanEHdian Time's flying, and so am I... (69-way, 108-way and 138/142-way Freefly World Records)
  24. Yes. On one repack that I didn't pull due to exchange circumstances, thinking no big deal for this time... I realized later that it was the first repack with my new pillow reserve handle! What did my rigger do for me? He drove across town with his wife, on their way to a dinner somewhere past my area and dropped in early for me to slap it on and do it! That's priceless. Note: I don't just pull the reserve handle, I execute my emerg procedures. I've also noticed that I don't necessarily peel velcro and then pull (2 steps)... but rather, I do it all in one motion, grab-twist_wrist-pull (across the body) which effectively 'peels as you pull' - very smooth, no problems at all. This is probably what everyone means and I misread it... please correct me if I'm wrong, it's an important issue. Cheers, CanEHdian Time's flying, and so am I... 25. I can't comment on the technicalities that may have caused your situation - I'll let the more experienced chime in on that one. But I would recommend developping a better overall altitude awareness. If you practice good habits and continuously check your altitude, then you don't necessarily have to look when the shyte hits the fan and you need to decide - you should already have a good idea of where you're at and what your situation requires. Having read your post, it seems that you didn't really know just what your altitude was at breakoff, pull, and before starting to play with the canopy. Just my observation - congrats on handling things after they turned bad!
