  1. I just moved to Sacramento last summer and I love it here. There is a good downtown area with lots of different types of bars and clubs. Tons of good restaurants, lots of different neighborhoods. And two good dzs that are close. Most of the people I've met here have been very friendly too. I can't complain!
  2. I'm Jamie. I lurk. Haha. This forum moves so fast, by the time I want to reply to something it's been long gone. Guess I need to start using this at work constantly then I can keep up. :)
  3. I did my AFF at the Parachute Center. Yes, it's not a USPA affiliated dropzone and they do things a little differently, but I got good training. You only jump with one instructor as opposed to two, and you don't use the radios for landing. So if you would be more comfortable with two instructors and radios, Skydance might be better. Buuuut, Lodi has a lot of great instructors, a great DZO, and a lot of people who know a tremendous amount about the sport. I would recommend it to anyone.
  4. I'm personally a big fan of a vodka lemonade. Has just the right kick to it. Buuuut if you're looking for something a little more intense, can't go wrong with an AMF. I'm pretty sure they make it by just pouring in every kind of alcohol and a splash of blue curacao. Similar to a long island although it tastes much better.
  5. My first tandem was also my parents first tandem! I jumped on my 21st birthday and my mom and dad jumped with me and my sister and brother-in-law jumped too. I almost had my Grandpa and Aunt convinced...but since my Grandpa is 85 and on oxygen we figured it wasn't the best decision, and my aunt is missing a leg so she chickened out. I am so excited that my parents can understand my excitement when I talk about skydiving. My mom literally lights up whenever I talk about it!
  6. I think I might be one of like three there!! Lodi is definitely a male dominated DZ. As opposed to all the other that are rampant with half naked, nubile beauties? you bring up a very valid point.
  7. I think I might be one of like three there!! Lodi is definitely a male dominated DZ.
  8. I desperately want to go to a Boogie, but I have no idea which one to go to! A little background...I have my A license and have 53 jumps (did them in about 4 months) I do a little bit of sitflying, although I know I need a lot of help with it still. Biggest RW I've been on is a 5 way. I'm in Northern California (home DZ is Lodi). I want to travel someplace else, although I'm hoping to keep it west coast because of cost. I'm looking for something in the summer or autumn months. Any suggestions?! I'm a single, 22 year old girl who would probably be going by herself. I want a fun atmosphere, someplace to learn a lot and meet a lot of great skydivers!
  9. I have a friend who is probably the same stats as you and he did two tandems and did AFF. Tandem masters are always scared of him because of his size, but he did really well with all of the instructions and he was never a problem. He did a tandem in Monterery California and did his second tandem and AFF in Lodi, California. Just call ahead, check it out, let them know you're athletic (since it makes a little difference on your ability to arch and lift your legs and things like that). Good luck, you'll love it.
  10. I think it is awesome!! I agree though, a link to the DZ's website would make it even better.
  11. Congratulations, I'm so excited you found this amazing sport. Both my parents have Chronic Lymphocitic Leukemia, and I made them jump with me on my 21st birthday...my first tandem. My mother had the same feelings as you, she absolutely loved it! She did it to treat herself and get out of her normal routine. Too bad I couldn't convince my parents to take AFF with me!
  12. There already is a DZ in Tahoe, although I'm not sure if it's south lake or north lake. Either way, I havn't heard much about it. It might just be mostly tandems. There is one in Davis (just west of Sacramento) called skydance and one in Lodi (just south of Sacramento) called Parachute Center. Parachute Center is my home DZ so I would highly recommend that one!
  13. or just find a skydiving girl who gets it. that's what i'm trying to do! well, not find a girl...find a guy.
  14. I'm not sure why I love this Halloween costume so much, but last year I went as Tom Cruise from Risky Business. My friend is Marilyn Monroe. I don't have any good ideas for this year yet. :(
  15. I'm sorry to hear about all of your bad news, but you have to try and stay positive. I can not even comprehend what you're going through, but I can slightly understand. I just had to get tested for cancer since my parents both were just diagnosed with it, and that alone was terrifying. Today I finally got the call that I was clear. Just know that so many people are thinking about you, and you can survive this!
  16. Yay I'm so excited you like it! And I agree...the sick feeling was because you weren't in control. I've never felt that on my solos, but always on my tandems.
  17. HEY, I'm a girl!! :) I will definately look into that in Davis though it sounds very interesting.
  18. I know lots of people have strong views for or against Lodi. :) It's been good to me and I have been VERY proactive in finding out my own information. Even though it isn't USPA and they do things slightly differently, there are a lot of jumpers there with a lot of knowledge. I actually ordered a copy of the SIM...but unfortunately the place I ordered it from is on backstock so it's been a few weeks since I placed my order. I'm hoping it will come soon!! I believe there is a guy who freaquents the DZ who actually does water jump training, so next time I make it to jump I will talk to him and see about getting set up for a class. Thanks for all the advice!
  19. I just received my A license on jump #37 (I have 45 now) and I realized you need 50 jumps for a B. It took me so long to get my A because I was dragging my feet with learning how to pack. But I noticed you need water landing training to get your B license. Does that mean I need to actually perform a water landing or just take a course on how to do it? I have actually wanted to do a water landing for awhile now (i'm all about the aquatic sports too) so this makes me super excited! I'm just not sure how to go about getting this training for my B license. And is it weird to go straight from my A to get my B?
  20. I think it also depends on how you think of yourself. I have 47 jumps and am confident in my ability and where I am at considering how many jumps I have. I know I still have so much to learn, but I don't see myself as a noob. Plus, the guys at my dz don't refer to me as a noob and people still want to jump with me so that helps too. And who cares if they think of you as a noob, just get out there, jump with them, and prove yourself! Then they'll be impressed with your skills vs. your amount of jumps.
  21. Congratulations! I also just got my A license and I know how amazing that feeling is! It took me 37 jumps to get mine...but I still worked hard at it! Mostly learning how to pack was the reason I wasn't ready for it earlier. :) Good luck with your B!
  22. Here are my stats: 0/8/1 0 = close call, but unfortunatelly no go. I was at a skydiving party with six very hot foreign men in a hot tub, but i didn't have the balls (or the alcohol intake) to make myself get in too since I didn't have a bathing suit. maybe next weekend. :) 8 = a great weekend. 4 saturday, 4 sunday. i'm now up to 45 jumps. 1 = i made the mistake of saying "well that was my first time leaving the plane last" and then i owed beer. next time i'll have to say "i've never done that before" and then they won't get me for the word "first". haha.
  23. I used to go get a brazilian done at a salon and the first expereince for me was the worst pain of my life! after routinely going it got better though, and I grew to love not having to shave and the upkeep was not bad at all. But now my roommate is trying to convince me to do at home waxing with her, and I'm not sure about that. I probably couldn't handle doing it on my own.
  24. well as a girl myself here is my advice. don't straight out ask her out on a date, because if your dz is anything like my dz, the ration of men to women is crazy. and because of that i'm sure she's been hit on at the dz before. so take a different approach. I would keep it skydiving related in the beginning. maybe see if she wants to do a group jump with you, talk to her about when she comes out, things like that and see if you can get a friendship going and try and gage her feelings before you balls out and ask her out.
  25. HAHA! I'm flying to Vegas in a week, and it is going to be my first trip in a plane since I got certified and I can't stop thinking about how hard it is going to be to ride in the plane and not be able to jump! I better get an aisle seat or it will be torture!
