  1. If you're a resident of Georgia look here. http://www.gaaviationtech.edu I know another guy who went off to flight school up in Marietta and was flying RJs after about 650 hours with an advanced jet course.
  2. This is a great group of people- I've had many wonderful times with them. The doctors that volunteer for these clinics are nothing short of superhuman. A large part is done in the largely underserved parts of TN, KY, and VA but they have also done work on the Sioux reservations, New Orleans/Gulf coast both during and after the hurricane. in addition to the large volume of domestic work RAM maintains an ongoing presence in Guyana complete with an air ambulance, supporting an amerindian hospital back in the Rupunnini, and they run medical teams through the interior several times a year. Women's Health is a big focus of these trips as cervical cancer is an epidemic within the Amerindian population due to HPV. Many side projects exists including airstrip reclamation, trail cuts, infrastructure improvements, and an ongoing plan to try and rebuild/restock parts of what was once the largest free-range cattle ranch in the world. Any cowfolk interested in driving a few hundred head across the savanah should drop them an email and get on the info list. Karen (frequentflyer on dz.com) is getting close to finalizing a full-airborne test run sometime next year, possibly into Mexico. She has been running a parallel training school at Eloy 'Airdrop Assist' (spelling?) for this concept and it's great that she is finally getting past the roadblocks.
  3. I could've used that when I had to go to Germany a few times. Long flights suck big time. I watched The Abyss three times in a row. Would've preferreed to get tanked but altitude and alcohol don't mix that well.
  4. Many great memories watching the scientist a teacher's heart
  5. Take a pro-tec and pull the top pad out. There's enough room there to fit a pair of shorts in case you land off. Enjoy!
  6. IRS has clamped down on charity vehicle donations so check the latest regs. If you donate, do it to help the charity and not to cut your taxes. I've driven all of mine untill the engine goes out big time (#1), transmission begins to crumble (#2), some variation of both (#3), or until the wheels fall off (hasn't happened yet, but I know a few who have lost a wheel in transit).
  7. Yeah, I know- he wrote it as more of a 'modern day fairy tail' but they lost me completely when the kid started reading prophecy in his cereal boxes. Just a bit too far outside for me.
  8. That kinda reminds me of some Western show I used to watch as a kid. The state line ran throught the center of the local saloon, so when one of the Sherriffs would walk in everyone stood up and ran to the other side of the bar.
  9. OK, I'm sorry but this movie has to be one of the goofiest things I've watched since Jurassic Park III where the guy is parasailing through a giant birdcage.. Is there a rewind button to get back the 2 hours of my life I just wasted on this thing? Yeesh. At least I only paid $1.08 at the New Release Kiosk down at Kroger. OK- more beer makes everything better. Bottoms up!
  10. Pops!!!! Good to see ya last weekend. Hope you had some good students. You get the books I left ya?
  11. You're better off putting in a nice Koi pond with a little deck. They look nice and buyers like them as it sticks out in their mind and they get pictures of themselves relaxing with a book in the nice weather next to the pond. I had one when I bought my house. I sat by the pond once (maybe twice). It was overrated. But damn it look nice.
  12. 1- Change the dirty air filter 2- Tune up the engine (plugs, wires, etc) that hasn't been touched in 60k miles 3- For heaven's sake, put some air in those flat tires you're driving around on.
  13. That's becoming a common theme. Moss Point, MS Monroe, GA Paris, TN and now Delmarva
  14. The aspect ration ratio can be adjusted for normal TV. Whenever I've looked at wodescreen TVs that's the measurement I really used to compare size and quality so that 50" Widescreen isn't really 50", it might be more like 40" with the normal ratio.
  15. Atair was developing a system for a similar app involving a large tandem canopy, altitude deployed round 'reserve' landing chute, and GPS steering. Kick it out of a plane and deliver several hundred pounds on-target. This looks like a longer range app- still pretty darn cool.
  16. Have your lineset checked for trim. It may be distorting the wing and ready for replacement.
  17. Heading into the summer sjydiving season I would like to remind everyone to take those gear checks seriously and get their kit ready for heavy jumping. We had a jumper on the Texas recored lose a toggle on flare today. He's OK, a little banged up with some brush burn but let this serve as a reminder to the rest of us to check our equipment and invest in regular maintenance. It's cheaper than a hospital bill. When I hear this I'm reminded of another jumper I know who was not so lucky and had a long stay in ICU and recovery after a toggle snap under his VX.
  18. (jumps up and down and waves) me me me me me! With south Texas heat to boot.
  19. Get good at it now. You can expect this type of treatment on a regular basis as long as you have coworkers. Your options are (1) always keep your ass covered or (2) fuck them before they fuck you
  20. Consider it good practice for when these young women graduate and have to go work a job, where all kinds of people will snipe at them for a variety of reasons.
  21. Rigs have been tampered with in the past going through as checked baggage. These include bolt cutter to the reserve pin and holes poked in the reserve from a probe being shoved down the risers.
  22. And if some new microscopic life WAS created in a jar of amino-acid and protein rich peanut butter we'd never know about it because it would have been eaten anyway.
  23. On a sysadmin gig until mid-May in Houston. What are the good joints?
