  5. I got it...there indeed is a switch in front of the comp itself, but it's more undernieth than in front; on top of that it's a black switch, on a black chassey, labled in dark red letters...that's beyond 20/20 vision... Anyway, flipped it on and it found the network automatically.

Squeak...I'm also on unsecured mode for the moment; when I figure out how to password protect the connection I'll let ya know.

Thanks for all the help guys :D

  6. Ok, II'm getting somewhere, just not sure where exactly... By all indications wireless capability on the laptop is enabled (I could be wrong). Yet, a pop-up window says that wireless cappability needs to be turned on and is done so by flipping a switch on the computer itself, but I see no sutch switch :S Screenshots attached

  7. Does anyone know how to setup a wirless network between two computers? I'm pretty computer sappy and have done this in the past, but both computers were running windows xp; this is the first time I'm doing this with one pc running windows xp home edition, while the laptop is running windows vista home edition. I'm using a Linksys Wirless-G 2.4 GHZ broadband router. The problem is that the laptop is not finding the network, and it semms I can't manually set it up either :S....

    Thanks a bunch!

three or four days ago i posted my first thread on this silly web page. it was about my girlfriend breaking up with me because i refused to stop skydiving. Now, im basically a newbie, with less than 50 jumps, and i basically created a thread of truly experienced jumpers laughing at me. At first i was pissed off, but soon i realized that most of you really experienced cats have lived through a series of life altering sacrifices in order to jump. i get it now. all you big tough skydivers, with your D licenses, can break my balls all you want. i hate you all, and i thnk that you all are assholes. however, once i have 1000 jumps under my belt, i plan on breaking the balls of the newbies as well. its a tough and competitive sport. i get it. so, to all you old bastards hat think you're hot shit because you've survived 10+ 15+ 20+ years in this sport, just remember that in two years my little novice punk ass will be freeflying circles around you guys... (ok... seriously, dont tell the guys at crosskeys that i wrote this. i actually have to see them in persn. however, all you cats from around the country that ill probably never meet: break my balls all ya want. ill be abetter skydiver than you one day.

Wow man....have a bong hit, you'll feel much better. Seriously, lighten up; life isn't that serious

By the way, skydiving is not a about who's better than who, I'm not even licensed yet and I could tell ya that. Take comfort kid,I'm a newbie who doesn't know shit just like you.......and the last thing I'm worried about is someone busting my balls (to the contrary, I've met some great people on here) If it happens, get used to it, especially from Squeak, from what I see, he's the certified dz.com ball-breaker ;)

  9. I got an interview at Farmers Insurance on Monday evening. It's not a sales position and therefore not all that lucrative, but it is a stable pay check and will suffice for the time being. It'll allow me to save money for my series 6 license, which basically qualifies me to be a financial advisor. The other two I am titles (I'm not all into titles, but hey, it pays more) are CIC and CLU (I believe); it's the equivalent of a bachelors and masters degree in the insurance industry. The first takes a 6 months or so, and the other two take a year a piece and only cost a grand...It's a no-brainer

So, with this new job I can start saving for what really will make me money in the future........not to mention tunnel time and next season's AFF endeavor. :)

Edited to add: Its funny though, because when I travel to other parts of the country people tell me I have a Chicago accent.

  15. First, the sort of bad news (although this really is a blessing in deskize) is that I more than likely wont be able to get my license this season as I had originally hoped, reason being now that I started working out I realized getting my legs in shape so that I can safely and effectively skydive wont be as easy as I thought (I never, even from the get-go thought it was going to be "easy"). You know what?....That's ok though. The time gives me more of an opportunity to build up strength and get myself together financially. In the meantime I'll continue to work out, do a few more tandem jumps and get some tunnel time this summer. I also plan to have as much time as possible in the tunnel during the coming winter.

So now the really good news! :)) and said he'd like to work with me. It gets even better.... Because I'm not eligible for any other insurance coverage I'm on Medicare, and they cover 80& of rehab costs. If I was able to pay 100% of it, believe me, I would and will when I can, as I'm not one to mooch off the system; at the moment however, I have to take advantage of every resource made available to me. It has been a wonderful feeling I cannot put into words, having the skydiving community support me in many ways, and now I'm meeting alt the right people in the appropriate fields of expertise who are likewise pushing me along. I feel truly blessed... :)
By the time next season rolls around I'll be more than ready to concur AFF MUAHAHAHAHH!! :D

Edited to ADD: Yes, I know I misspelled "deskize".....so sue me:D

Damn I have a bad memory (edited to add): I'ts funny how all week I found myself thinking how great it would be to meet a therapist.

If you have a Micro Center it's the way to go...They usually got some good deals, and are the only story I know (bare in mind I don't know much) that has a 30 day return policy, instead of the normal 14. Doesn't matter if the item has been open or not. Tiger Direct is also a good place. If niether is near you, you could order online and still save money.

  17. Just a thought...what If I was to use internetleads. There are two tpes, b/s leads lising hust phone numbers, and leads from which people wish to be cakked back, for example, all the people who willingly give their information online because they want a quote for a house, a car, etc, etc... Of course, than the question becomes do they want a good policy or are they just shopping around for prices...:S

That does sound like a lot of policies Ralph...what #'s are you currently selling now?

If I get 6-10 policies a week its a good week. However, that's only because most of our business comes from general contractors in the form of general liability and workmans comp policies......and because construction is slow for now (at least around here) none of us are doing too good [:/] Of course, it doesn't help that our office is disorganized because my boss is too "busy" playing golf all over, vactioning and starting other business ventures...

    Quote

Yeah, the base salary looks way low. What happens if you don't make the required sales for a month or two?

that is a low base salary, but it would be enough to make it by. Our mortgadge pays for itself between our tenents...plus, the comm of the 44 policies would suffice. The distract manager really didn't say what happens if you don't make the 44. She claimed they don't runinto that problem with their agents do to the marketing and sales support....:S I'm trying to contact my personal farmers agent in regards to this matter.

  22. Start your own business? I currently work for a insurance broker, but really want to move on. To make a long story short, the opportunity to open an office for Farmers presented itself. From what I've been told, it's a no-brainer, and yet I'm hesitant. For the first 2 years they pay you a base salary of $1,500.00 per month + commission off of what you sell; to assist in your sales there is a ongoing training program in place, and a marketing staff. People associate Farmers, State Farm and Allstate as good companies. Also, for that first 2 years there are separate funds in place to assist in the payment of office space and whatnot. The only thing holding me back is the fact that you have to sell 40 property and casualty policies, which means a combination of home, auto and business insurance, and 4 life policies month to month. Maybe its just me, but that seems like a lot. I find myself toying with the idea nonetheless because it would put me in a better position now. As for right now, I work on a commission basis at the broker, and when people do come in i could sell a policy with no problem; although I don't have much sales experience, I like being around and talking with people....when it comes to interacting with clients I don't even think of it as "selling" it has begun to come naturally. The added challenge of working for a broker is getting the client comfortable with the product; you'd be surprised to learn how many people never heard of AIG, Metlife...or even Progressive. People see Farmers, Allstate or State Farm and they get a sense of security. I figure that with $1,500 base pay plus commission of the 44 policies I could make $3,000+ per month, which is a hell of a lot more than what I'm making now. 44 Policies does seem like a lot though [Crazy] What would you do?
