  1. My friend has to adopt out his cat. I'm interested in having her. But...there are 3000 miles between us (almost). Is there anyone traveling from the Philly area to California that would be willing to transport her?
  2. I was in the ENT's office, long ago, when I heard the doctor telling his patient "YOU NEED HEARING AIDS!" "But I can hear you just fine," she said puzzled. "THAT'S BECAUSE I'M YELLING AT YOU!" "Oh, no," she said, "You wouldn't do that!" The whole waiting room was dying of laughter.
  3. I just came across this article. It discusses violence with the mentally ill: http://psychcentral.com/news/2009/02/03/mental-illness-does-not-predict-violence/3869.html
  4. I love my lawrocket...and the wee one he gave me. oh, and FUB!
  5. And another thing Quade...In the original article regarding Mr. Bear-talking-man, he was evaluated by a psychiatrist who considered his symptoms controlled with treatment. The judge took into consideration the direction of the psychiatrist. I know plenty of Bipolar patients who hold very high profile jobs making very high profile decisions and life and death decisions, when under treatment and taking their medications. I know many a surgeon with bipolar disorder, doing very well and delivering quality care to their patients, while in treatment.
  6. Wrong. The constitution does not apply to only "sane" people. The constitution protects us all: Black, white, yellow, tall, small, married, divorced, gay, straight, diabetics, HIV, cardiovascular patients, smokers, drinkers, bipolar disordered people and schizophrenics. I am not comfortable with taking away someone's rights because he/she has a mental illness. While there have been times where I have had to admit someone involuntarily, or medicate them involuntarily, I have not done so simply because they are "insane." I can only take away those rights if they are "a danger to others, a danger to him/her self, or unable to provide the basic necessities of life such as food, clothing, shelter or capacity to make and understand health care decisions. One can be "crazy" but still understand his health care decisions, or be functional in society. I have had plenty of psychotic individuals, who have chosen not to take medications for their illness because of side-effects, etc and they have had legitimate concerns over long term side-effects. Just because my patient was hearing voices, did not mean that that patient was not capable of making decisions for himself. For Billvon and Quade, I suggest you read The Quiet Room by Lori Schiller and Amanda Bennett so that you can gain a little insight towards the life of a schizophrenic patient. Neither of you have any empathy nor any understanding of severe mental illnesses. Do yourself a favor and educate yourself. NAMI is another good resource for the two of you. I am appalled by your ignorance.
  7. That's different from what Quade is saying. You are talking about someone who is violent. Yes, violent people should not have access to deadly weapons, whether or not they are mentally ill.
  8. So, Dr., you have no problem with a person that is unable to tell the difference between reality and fantasy owning a gun? Seriously? You, sir, have NO understanding of mental illness. How many people have you met who have had a serious mental illness such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder? I've met thousands. Perhaps you should have an understanding of the DSM-IV and those that have these illnesses before you start taking away their rights.
  9. Quade, People with Anti-Social Personality Disorder, considered a characterological disorder, are more likely to commit violent crimes, including those with guns, than someone who has a severe mental disorder. Not all that are mentally ill are violent. And most do not commit crimes. And, you are more likely to commit a violent crime if you are depressed, than if you are schizophrenic. The mentally ill have rights protected by our constitution. I have no problem supporting their rights. Dr. DFWAJG, psychiatrist
  10. I don't know about other states, but in CA certain mental disorders will prevent someone from having a driver's license. Only if it prevents them from driving safely.
  11. Ahhh, The Ranch. To jump with Jerm, Shatalov, an Andyway, Heidi, Johnny Love, give hugs to Mike Rome, and The Brick...I miss those peeps. And give that cool swooper chick, Pia a nice hard time for me. Oh, and then there's Shannon, another cool swooper chick, and Karena, and Joe Bird, and, well there are just too many great people to mention. I miss them all! They are an awesome crowd! There are a bunch of people from the NYC metropolitan area that leave the city by 3 pm and stay until sunset during the week. You can camp in a tent on the weekends. Just follow the distinct accents when you are there!

It can still happen. A vasectomy has a one in 300 chance of failure. On my OB rotation, we had a woman in delivery, that had a tubal ligation 10 years earlier. Her second husband, had had a vas 10 years earlier. It can happen, unexpectedly. But thank goodness Jerry cancelled his appointment.
  13. according to shah, you don't exist Sing it with me boys! No photo..... edit 2367 There is more than one photo of me here, Mr. Shah. wow....this is just sick!
  14. according to shah, you don't exist Shes married to Jerry. So she's a hot, size 6 scientist with low standards. I raised my bar with you, baby. Remember, my last bf was "disbarred." Is that even grammatically correct?
  15. You know, I've been thinking. Shah complains that he can't meet women at work. He can't meet women where he lives. He can't meet women where he does yoga. He has very strict requirements regarding size, hair color, shape, occupation, etc when it comes to women. It is almost as if he is making it impossible for himself to meet a female. Could it be possible that Shah actually isn't attracted to the opposite sex at all? Maybe Shah is attracted to males, but hasn't accepted it yet? But what do I know, I'm just a hot, size 6 female scientist.
  16. You're on facebook now?! And you didn't friend me? Even after I sent you boobie pics?
  17. Do you have something to tell us? (please disregard the sigline. Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain)
  18. now we just need them to restart with the "worth reading" posts.
  19. mine was "they all can't be like lawrocket." from tonto.
  20. Number of languages spoken in the U.S.: 311. Those languages indigenous to the U.S: 162 Those that are immigrant languages: 149 There are 14 million households in the United States where English is not the primary language.
  21. Happy Birthday, smelly fingers.
  22. Be sure to get a "guaranteed to be delivered" by date. Otherwise, your car may be stuck in Chicago for two weeks. I had a horrible experience this past summer waiting for my car.
  23. No. Actually, the 5150 order is for a psychiatric evaluation. It can be filled out by a physician, any mental health professional, medics, police officers, and I'm not sure who else. If a physician deems the person DTO, DTS or gravely disabled, the person can be admitted for up to 72 hours. If after 72 hours, the physician determines that the patient is still one of those three, then a 5250 can be filed with the court, allowing a hospitalization of up to 14 days. A representative from the court will come, and an advocate will stand in for the patient. The doctor essentially has to plead the case as to why the patient meets one of those three. The court rep then determines whether or not the person can remain on a hold. If no, then the patient can either sign in voluntarily, or must be discharged. If yes, the patient has to stay, but can also ask to be seen by the judge for a writ of habeus corpus. There is another procedure that can keep the patient in longer than two weeks if necessary, but I just don't recall it any more. It's been almost 10 years since I've had to use it.
  24. Prohibition of firearms to the mentally ill is state specific. In California, If you have been 5150'd for danger to self or danger to others, doctors are required to report your admission. There is more, here it is... http://mabpro.com/community/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=74&Itemid=84
