  1. Howzit going folks...

i would like to find out how to go about slowing down while in a sit? Im a relatively large lad (6'4" and about 270pounds with gear).
I pretty stable in a sit but obviously struggle to slow down a bit... my avg fall rate is between 175 and 200mph all depending on what i try to slow down with.
Basically i was taught to try and fly the legs (thus keeping my hands free for docks) and use them to control fall rate and stability.
Recently i have read that the best way to slow down is to use the arms and push down into the relative wind, which obviously works, but then i am stuck with basically flying my arms and struggle to take any docks as as soon as i move my arms i would start to turn.
My legs are positioned pretty wide apart already.

If there is another thread on this... please point me in the right direction.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks tons

as for jumping experience... what would you recommend?

i have an rsl 'unfortunately'(im not really a big fan although i do understand its purpose and the pros and cons of one)
im just trying to determine and get some ideas of some reserve drills
    thanks again

  4. Hi guys an gals,

Im having some trouble finding a thread on camera helmet emergency procedures. As in what is the correct or what are the different emergency procedures one should take in the case of a mal?

Firstly, if you guys feel that this post belongs in the safety forum, please feel free to move it there.

My theory in my VAST knowledge and experience (1 year and 160 jumps) would be that if i have a mal with no camera entanglement then my procedures would or should be: 1: Arch, 2. clear lines(sweep) 3. Look (handles), 3. Peel right, 3. Peel Left, 4. Arch...
If i happen to be unfortunate enough to have a camera hook up, then: 1. Cut helmet, 2. arch, 3. look (handles), 4. peel right, 5. peel left, 6. arch...

please could you tell me if i should be adding steps or changing the order of how i would go about it...
I understand this is only a matter of opinion but im pretty sure that some form of consensus could be reached with regards to similarity of procedures?!

    thanks for your time

  6. SkyMaster 280 - 0-50
    Skymaster 230 - 50-90
    Skymaster (i think) 200 - 90-100
    Pilot 188 - 100-present
loading at 1.45 and not planning on going any further down the rung for atleast 500 more jumps...
Injuries = 1 on the 230... clipped a concealed rock with foot and partially tore some ligaments in left knee (had previous L knee injury)

  10. im still a "Camera Virgin" in that i have only done 4 jumps with it now, but so far i have no issues with the side mount(touch wood)...
I chose to side mount due to the fact that im 6'4" tall already and did not want any more height 'issues'...

  11. thanks for that... it feels to me (beginner) that the Pilot seems to 'balloon' out of a dive...
but i suppose its a good idea to get the jump numbers up on it until i can downsize...
thanks for the advice and opinions...

  12. Hi folks,

i would like to find out the main differences between these canopies.
Im currently on a 190 Pilot and figured i would rather learn how to fly a "semi-elliptical" first before downsizing... i dont want to downsize just yet anyway...
Im trying to weigh up my options using the pros and cons of the two using some folks with flight experience on either of the two as opposed to marketing tactics to try and sell me a canopy...
    can anyone help please???
    Thanks;)

  14. Hey folks,

i want to get into cam work but am not sure which would be a better option for me.
Im freeflying with maybe a little flat here and there but basically would like to find out if a side or a top mount is a better option and also should i rather go for a DV camera or the hard drive cam?

i was thinking that the HD with a top mount would reduce the risk of line snag. would the DV cam not be too bulky for the top mount?
    any advice would be great
