  1. -Jeff Dunham. Oops.. Should have actually read the thread before replying... I still think it's a funny quote though... "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  2. #1-42 on a Manta 280ish #43-53 on a Falcon 215 #54 on a Navigator 240 #55 on a Smart 250 #56-97 on a Navigator 240 #98-101 on Sabre1 210, loaded at about 1.0 All rentals. The Sabre 210 will not last me long though - I hate it, even though I can land it accurately. 3. Don't worry, it's all happening behind glass. To the OP, if TV in your country is as bad as Dutch TV, you're probably better off looking out of the window. Or you could get a book instead; it's one of those papery things, I'm sure I saw one on TV once though they didn't say how to operate one. Do they come with a manual in pdf-compatible format do you think? 4. I'll say.. some of the hotshots nowadays could use that thing as a main! (albeit probably only once) "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  5. So's some of the worst - outdated stuff that worked perfectly a few years ago, but which is now replaced by very different ways of thinking, new techniques, improved instruction methods, etc. Just saying But welcome, Bacon. 6. Slight deviation from the OPs question, but what has this got to do with how appropriate a canopy is? (Well, except for the third factor, even I understand that.) DZ elevation: OK, if you're jumping in the Alps with a DZ at 5K ASL I can understand that you'll be coming in for your landing a bit faster than at your home DZ which is below sea level - but if you're used to that? DZ size: All other things being equal, How often you jump should IMO be more important than from which aircraft you're exiting. Quality of Instruction on both types of DZ should not vary too much, I hope. Visiting other DZs: The only thing I can think of is that it might be bad to jump different types of rigs very often, as your handles could be in slightly different places. ( I recently switched from Vector Student to a rig which has release and reserve a few cm higher, close to the chest strap) Also, different canopies behave differntly, i know that. On the other hand, learning to fly with different types of canopies (once you're comfortable with landing one type, that is) also means that you'll be better informed once the time comes to buy your own kit. Another advantage of different DZs is that one is more "versatile" if you wish, in learning to spot, or even finding the DZ. When i first went to another DZ I had a hard time finding it after exit, a thorough briefing nonwithstanding. I kinda missed the trusty old fixed recognition points of my home DZ. NB. Kids, don't try this at home. I'm not offering advice, i am reasoning in my own limited, retarded way about something I don't fully understand. If nothing else, that's something that DZ.com is good for - making you think. If this stuff makes the topic deviate too much, i'm happy to start a new one. 7. I don't know.. You must be a very disturbed person. () "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  8. Well fuck me sidewise.. I made it after all! Did number 100 and 101 yesterday. Yei me! "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  9. If you like fantasy, I can heartily recommend George RR Martins Song of ice and Fire. The story is a bit slow in picking up the pace, but the novels are very well written. It's very obvious who the good and the bad guys are at the start of the frist book, but by the third, when you've seen more of everyone's point of view, you can only conclude that they are all basterds. For lighter reading, pick up a Discworld novel, by Terry Pratchett. The later ones in the series are getting somewhat darker than the first, but you can get a good laugh out of any of them. And if you are so inclined, it is easy to see what in modern society the author is slagging off. 10. I wonder how she is able to tie her own shoelaces after that boob job. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  11. .. connect to the internet and boast to your buddies at your home DZ who couldn't afford the plane ticket about what a great time you're having. You'll have to come back someday... 12. There really is no call for that. If you are not even going to read his first post entirely, please refrain from replying. The OPs questions are valid - there is a lot of places advertising with weight restrictions. It is unreasonable to expect eager newbies to know the forum etiquette, such as it is, and to know they must fill in their profile in order to be taken seriously. By simply trolling them, you're just scaring off the sincere people. In my opinion, even if we can help a single newbie, it's worth wasting time on 99 trolls. To the OP, i hope you achieve your dream! "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

    Hard Game

22.813 sefs on the tenth attempt - though it took me five to figure out what the hell I was supposed to do "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  14. My favorite whiskey.. I got this quarter bottle of Glen D'Orangie from my collegues upon finishing my internship in Belfast. Even the most chauvinistic Irish whiskey drinker allowed that "that stuff is allright" as far as scotch goes. However, here in the Netherlands I haven't found a single offie yet which carries Glen d'Orangie. And I'm told that if they would I would be looking at a horrendously expensive alcohol addiction. So a friend of mine recommended that i get myself some Glen Talloch, which was the cheap version of that type of whiskey. When I saw that this whiskey was actually on sale in the off licence around the corner, I followed his advice. Two days later, I had finished an entire bottle of Glenn Talloch all by myself, and had vowed never to buy the stuff again - it's simply too good. 15. It must suck to be the guys in that add... I mean, what kinda loser are ya if even your girlfriend doesn't want to f*ck you anymore, and doesn't even want to touch you except with a toy? 16. I know.. I guess everyone has that problem to a certain extent. I have found that a great way of meeting people is asking them how many jumps they got, or what they are jumping and why. Should keep you occupied for a few hours
  17. I have to agree - nothing funny about that. I already hated the video when the voice over started with his smart-ass comments and annoying "I'm oh so great" kind of voice, but when I saw the skydivers coming in I had to look away every time someone was about to "land". God that was scary. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  18. Good luck with your thesis, dude! Just ignore the sniper type of response, some people just cant help themselves. But I have one comment; on the page which like a moron I forgot to copy paste, but on which you asked to rate from 1-5: You ask about risk taking being the motivation. I kinda miss the safety-aspects of the sport, if you know what I mean. Sure, freefall and canopy flight are cool, but I make sure I get down safely. If I feel I'm not ready for something, I won't do it. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

  20. Really, i know i could do with losing a few pounds (and it's not even christmas yet ). But no way my ass is big enough to generate enough gravity to attract planetoids () "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

  23. Question: Is this something that just happened overnight between two jumps, or are there other factors at play? Did you take a (long) break, or were you unfortunate enought o witness an incident? Did something in your private life change? Whatever the reason, I sincwerely hope you'll be able to have fun again. 24. I know there's two more replies, but I can't resist: Lissen carefully, I shall say zis only vonce - I repeat: I shall say zis only vonce! "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  25. I refuse to answer that. I'll take the job if they want me, because a man gotta eat, but if the colour of my skin is the only thing which distinguishes me from other, equally qualified, applicants, and the only reason that i get a job interview while they don't - I think I'd keep looking for a different job. However, the Dutch paranoid "political correctness" or whatever is supposed to pass for that sometimes leads to really strange situations. When i was applying for my very first job, I was asked to sign a form indicating that i agreed with the "Law Together, some equal opportunities act. I carefully read the document, and signed it. Then the true job interview started. The interviewer was responsible among other things for the university's accomodations. So I asked him whether I could be assigned a temporary university accomodation, since my current address was 200 km away - a travelling time of more than three hours. That way I could look for something else, and maybe even view a room or two afte work. He gave me a disgusted look, and said: "I'm sorry, we only mediate in finding accomodations for foreign nationals." So I said: "Riiiight... You know, that form you just had me sign? Could i maybe briefly have it back?" When he handed it to me, I slowly tore up the form while looking at the guy. I got the job anyway - the confirming email was in my inbox maybe one hour after the interview was concluded "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
