  1. So you've seen it as well ? Nothing like waiting out weather hold days like sitting around the DZ watching old skydiving flicks together, or the fact we own quite a few of them & have watched them often...hokie as some may be
  2. ________________________________________________ We've had near 80 the past 3 days..still some ice chunks around the place, but drastically took a change real fast... a week ago we had 40+ " on the ground
  3. I've met some pretty original 'flat landers' & their SO's here in cheesheadland
  4. Welcome to Wisconsin..it's a beautiful place; agl or at altitude, with great DZ's Congratulations on your position at UW-Whitewater. I have family members who are alumni there. I'm actually from Milton, WI..only about 15 miles from Whitewater. I know you say you don't like small towns, but mid size city; Janesville is 1/2 an hour or so from Whitewater, located in Rock Co. It offers everything & wonderful schools, as does my hometown, Milton. It is considered a " bedroom community". My son & his family still live there ! Madison is @ 40 miles nw., Milwaukee @ 60 mi. east. Both are easy to get to. Madison is great ! I lived in the city of Milwaukee for a few years . The outlying towns & 'burbs are good, but inner city..not so much I actually left Milwaukee when my son was ready to start school, for that very reason. Mukwonago is a good choice ! Lake Geneva is gorgeous, close , but an expensive little " nautical' touristry town. East Troy Skyknights & Fort Atkinson's Atmosphair are within just a few miles from Whitewater, with 7 Hills a few miles further ...but absolutley the BEST DZ I've experienced being Staff & jumping with is right in your neck of the woods: Skydive Midwest; Sturtevant, WI., now jumping a twin otter. ( just minutes south of Milwaukee) You can take Hwy 11 from Whitewater to 43N to Sturtevant, drive up right to the hangar...45 minutes away. Then you can head north to my home DZ area: Skydive Adventure; Omro ( near Oshkosh). I've also had the pleasure to be staff with, & jumped at Green Bay Skydivers & Skydive Door County; Sturgeon Bay ! Then come visit us at our relocation DZ: Skydive Superior.
  5. 1st jump was in November... a tandem, 3 weeks before my 50th ! Did next 8 jumps within a couple weeks & was at qualifying 25 jumps ( for A license) within a few weeks the following spring That was almost 7 years ago
  6. I have a 3 rule life policy: 1. Never Mess With My Job 2. Never Ever Mess With Man 3. Never, & I Mean Never Ever Mess With My Sons Nor Theirs I'm not sure what the problem is whether you are within your probationary period or not, but you have as much right to be hassled, harassment free as anyone with seniority ! Regardless of your experience or whether it's an 'on the job' training, it costs companies money for employee turnovers. My bet you aren't the 1st of his prey, perhaps you'd be doing the company & yourself a favor ! Or could this be a test as to your stress limits, ability to get along &/or endure co-workers ? If your intent is to keep this job, call the "pressure cooker" out. Take it to management, HR., ask him directly what/ why the problem "he" has with you, or call him out before witnesses. Why wait ? Work place schemers & bullies ( aka: brown nosers) are typically threatened, insecure, cowards... stand your ground...this is YOUR livelihood, as well
  7. Skydive Midwest...excellent DZO, management, safety conscientiousness, Staff & gratitude towards Staff, jump plane & peeps
  8. Agreed Since noon yesterday Yogi dumped another 16" on us, still snowing, high winds, teen temps & forecast with 4 more today This after last week's 12" from Walda ... We get a break tomorrow, then more forecasted Sun & Mon & throughout next week UGH Watched 3 adult deer & a fawn try to cross through our land this am... Snow past the adults 'kness', poor fawn was literally dragging his belly trying to keep up Trees are bent, limbs & power lines snapped ! This is more significant then some of the worse snows I experienced in my years in Anchorage !
  9. I am fortunate to have had the honor & priviledge to have met & known Beve, though only for a short time. Her home dz; as co-founder, & the Androsky's -Skydive Superior are now my home away from home ! ~Peaceful Eternal Flights, Beve ~
  10. too funny too bad this weather isn't so much so
  11. ---------------------------------------------------------- We broke ground for our cabin build a year ago @ 71 degrees. How's your DZ landing area ? We haven't been to "Soup" since Beve's funeral, but word has it "Soup" is very soupy. We're just s. of there a few miles, with @ 10" new over past 3 days, still coming down through tomorrow
  12. Oh wow, sorry to hear... best wishes for a quick & good recovery ! ~ Blessings n' BlueSkies ~
  13. ---------------------------------------------------------- I now totally agree ! It had become all too consuming with us, as the sport became profession. After 7 years for me working fulltime during jump season. with no other ability for outside life, & Brad the past 12 years....we decided we can longer live ONLY in skydiving. We aren't even getting many "fun" jumps in, any longer He just took a M-F /8-5 job outside of skydiving. I know longer will pack full time 7 days/wk. We will now be part of the weekend warriors, only. That will be contigent if there is something else we decide we'd like to do. Too much & too many have been missed, while commited ONLY to the DZ.
  14. Is that what you guy WEAR...or what you DO?! ------------------------------------------------------- both....
  15. wrestling shoes...my husband & I both !
  16. A guy I had just met one night & whom I was attracted, told he was a skydiving instructor at a nearby DZ. I told him he was ...I had never even heard of a DZ ! Though I never planned to ever go for one myself, he invited me to go to the DZ one Saturday, shortly after meeting him. After watching 34 tandem students load & land, I was the 35th ! Just watching in awe & hearing the elation from them after landing, was enough for me to overcome any thoughts of "why would anybody do this ". Long story shorter; after a reserve ride on my 1st tandem, I was hooked...on him & skydiving That was 7 years ago & it is still a very significant part of our existance... as we married & it is both our professions. Skydiving changes you; physiologically, emotionally & for me, spiritually

  18. So because not everyone felt empowered to change things or take stands then no one did. Interesting. ----------------------------------------------------------- You might want to thumb through the history books (e.g. '60-'70 era, JFK, RFK, MLK jr. to name a few )
  19. The people I grew up around ? What exactly are you referring to ? My "people", personally ? I consider the statement "your people" being family, a party or member to a race or tribe. Though I'm of multi Anglo Saxon / Native American decent..a mutt, I can say with certainty "my people" had no hand, input nor authored any document, license, questionnaire nor other seeking race criteria then, or at anytime. Though an ancestor; "Sir PrettyBoy Tomlin," was Wm. Penn's ( name sake of Pennsylvania) private tutor, I sincerely doubt even he ( they) had any influence as such in my native homeland, also being Wisconsin. As I come from a line of large family numbers having a long heritage in this country, none have ever had the empowerment you suggest, so no apologies on my behalf necessary. I was born during & at a time segregation, racism & bigotry existed nationwide. Desegregation initiatives began when I was a youth. Klu Klux Klan & Posse Comitatus sadly existed even throughout the 70's & 80's. Again no apologies needed, it just was, what it was... 'a sign of the times'. Now, my guess'timate of your grandparents marriage in 1957, they were a couple years behind my parents marriage in 1955, your age you indicated to me in your pm to me, is that of my youngest son, therefore I'm guessing your parents you claimed married in WI. are probably close to my age! There had never been the ability on any WI. Marriage License nor application allowing for "human". I have filled out & filed 2 in this state....1974 & 2010. I don't have it out for you or take issue with you. I don't know you ! I do however, have the tendancy bring to surface "issues" especially after someone seeks me out for assistance in making notifications & contact with individuals I know on their behalf, when it appears they have presented themselve's a bit inconsistant...that's all ! Now with that being said, you could probably best redeem yourself with some...when you actually do a legitimate jump. BlueSkies to you ~~ ps. I advise video of your jump when/ if you do & your name is on your profile...ss# birthdate info..totally not my business
  20. too funny...cramps in my cheeks from laughing so hard
  21. I was born in '56. Growing up in 60's & 70's in the north midwest, was still quite controversial & discriminatory. I don't ever remember a check off box "human", nor "write in" ability on any form, questionaire or document during those times. Anglo Saxon was the ethnic choice for White, along with the limited Asian, American Indian, or Negro. Proper entitlement of proclaiming rightful ethnicity has evolved dramatically since, but never have I seen the ability to proclaim 'human" & leave it at that in any official document You have contacted me personally, giving me your geographical & family history none of which is consistant with some of the content you've posted in this thread. Sorry, but I've got to say, I've questioned it for awhile, but now too am thinking either you are a 'project' or have some other agenda
  22. My guess would be short for your name: Andreya... "fuzzy" pehaps for the downy fuzz like scalp & body hair many newborns are born with...
