  1. Skydive Smoky Mountains is jumping at Coopers Field (a private grass air strip) up near Morristown, TN -- about 45 minutes outside Knoxville. They jump a 182 and a 206 Turbo. Directions: From Knoxville, go I-40E to I-81. Bear left onto I-81. Go 15 miles and get off at exit 15 (Fish Hatchery Road). Bear right off the exit onto Fish Hatchery Road and airstrip will be about 1 mile down the road on the right. 2. I believe that Skydive Smoky Mountains near Morristown, TN is the closest DZ to Asheville. (I'm not sure...but I think it's about an hour to 1-1/2 hours driving time from Asheville.) It's located on a small private grass airstrip with great views and very little air traffic. It is located 1 mile off exit 15 on I-81 (i.e., only 16 miles from the I-40 / I-81 split). Distance-wise, it's about 100 miles from Asheville. They fly both a 182 and a 206 turbo. You can contact Kipp or Teresa Burnett for more directions /info at [email protected] or give them a call at 865.577.9798.
  3. Skydive Smoky Mountains has a 182 and a 206 Turbine.
  4. Skydive Smoky Mountains is jumping at Coopers Air Field near Morristown in East Tennessee. Also listed in "Dropzones" in dropzone.com.
  5. To clarify and so as not to mislead anyone...it is NOT an airport with the big expansive landing area and taxiways. It is a private grass airstrip in a rural area (i.e., lots of fields), but like much of East Tennessee, there is a fairly narrow meandering river that cuts through the property.
  6. There are trees at one end of the runway that back up right on narrow river -- but those are at the far end of the runway, plus there are plenty of outs on either side of the water. There are some cornfields on either side also, but again can easily be avoided.
  7. Skydive Smoky Mountains just starting jumping at Coopers Air Strip (a privately owned 2100' GRASS strip) with LOTS of outs...a really fun place to jump. It about 30-45 minutes outside of Knoxville depending on where you live. It's just outside Morristown on I-81 (a few miles beyond the I-40 / I-81 split) on Fish Hatchery Road. Give Kipp & Teresa Burnett a call (865.577.9798) for more info. They jump a Cessna 206 Turbo and a 182.

    T-6 Time

I got to jump out of a T-6 a couple years ago -- The plan was to "fall" out as the plane was inverted during a diving barrel roll. However, in reality, it was more like being sucked out during a 160-knot diving barrel roll...but it was worth EVERY bruise!!! After viewing my video, though, no one else wanted to try it!
