  1. Please excuse my ignorance, I don't know if this is ridiculous. But, can you take a video and have stills made out of it?If so, where would I go to have this done? "I'm not sure how it's going to turn out, except I'll die in the end, she said. So what could really go wrong? -----Brian Andreas

    grounded

I don't know you , or your condition. But if it gives you any hope, my husband had vertebrae in his neck fused together and enjoyed many years of skydiving afterward.Good luck to you. 3. I am new too.I started a similar thread and got the same advice. The more I asked people I knew, the more sense it made.I'm just passing this information along.I am no expert. Some one said go ahead and start, but on the ground, shooting landings and such. Then when I'm ready for free fall filming I'll be familiar with the equiptment. My personal instructor and photographer mentioned complications with camera equiptment and malfuntions, such as entanglement with camera equiptment, which I never thought of. He has a quick release helmet for this reason. One more complication as a beginner I don't think I should add to my skydiving right now.But you should of course seek the advice of experienced jumpers and photographers. 4. And you didn't even mention how the cheek guards will protect your face from looking distorted during freefall. From the photos I've seen I think a lot of people will benefit from this. 5. Hopefully someone with knowledge will post and enlighten us a bit more.*** I believe you also said this. And I appreciated your response. You certainly didn't make any claim of being an expert. 6. Thanks for answering my question "I'm not sure how it's going to turn out, except I'll die in the end, she said. So what could really go wrong? -----Brian Andreas
  7. With all due respect. This doesn't make sense to me. My 7 cell spectre retails at almost $1800 dollars, while my smart reserve was $600.I don't understand why they are sold in such greater volume. It's possible I could go through 3 canopies down sizing before I ever replace my reserve.I'm just curious at what point do I replace it. 8. OK, that makes more sense.I thought you had access to some double top secret insurance none of us knew about.I think it's a shame the cost of insurance in the US.And although we all need it, I have to agree with Nick about the slippery slope involved in judging ones activities when they need help.If insured that's great, if not they still need help. 9. Are you talking just rescue insurance? Or medical also? I think I want you to hook me up with your insurance agent. "I'm not sure how it's going to turn out, except I'll die in the end, she said. So what could really go wrong? -----Brian Andreas
  10. Thanks. I realize there is always a safety margin, and all gear can probably be pushed somewhat past "recommendations" So after a certain number of reserve rides, should you replace the canopy? By the way, your post made me wonder if I should've got the PD instead going for the cheaper smart. "I'm not sure how it's going to turn out, except I'll die in the end, she said. 11. A friend of mine and I had this discussion. And I wondered if you could use a reserve for a main. "I'm not sure how it's going to turn out, except I'll die in the end, she said. So what could really go wrong? -----Brian Andreas
  12. Shouldn't the quality of a reserve be equivalent to a main?If not why? If so, why are they a fraction of the price? "I'm not sure how it's going to turn out, except I'll die in the end, she said. So what could really go wrong? -----Brian Andreas
  13. Thank You "I'm not sure how it's going to turn out, except I'll die in the end, she said. So what could really go wrong? -----Brian Andreas
  14. I agree, not real appropriate in this forum.I have seen this before, it is not a recent incident. Not that older incidents can't be discussed and learned from, but that doesn't seem like the intent.I think out of respect to any friends, family, and the jumper himself you should take it down. 15. That might be right for you, but I'm way to new for that right now.I don't know for sure but I'm willing to bet at this point with my experience (or lack there of) I won't even be thinking about my freebag.I always thought I'd dump at whatever altitude I was at when I knew I needed to. #33 . . .

I did not know her. But after a recent loss of my own, I was happy to see her remembered.I cried and then I smiled. I will definately raise a glass to her. "I'm not sure how it's going to turn out, except I'll die in the end, she said. So what could really go wrong? -----Brian Andreas
  18. OK, I suppose I will just out of sympathy.Keep in mind I'll be pretty broke after all the jumps I will have had by then. "I'm not sure how it's going to turn out, except I'll die in the end, she said. So what could really go wrong? -----Brian Andreas
  19. Actually I do have about a 500 foot jump planned in the far future. But that will be with a BASE rig and that belongs in another forum. The 500 ft was just a number to say "ball of fire or dangerously low jump?"Kinda of a flip of the coin.I'd choose to jump and hope for line stretch. But it was just about making that kind of decision yourself.I hope no one thought I was recommending anything to anyone.Especially beginners as I am one myself. Happy holiday's to you too. "I'm not sure how it's going to turn out, except I'll die in the end, she said. So what could really go wrong? -----Brian Andreas
  20. I agree to disagree and I agree with the things you were saying in your last post.Just so you know I'm from a small DZ and I guess I'm a cessna baby.I would also like you to know I'm well aware of my inexperience.I not only am conversing with the experienced skydivers at my DZ in an attempt to learn, I also talk to the pilots about what to do when. And I respect and listen to what they have to say about aircraft emergency.I'm always trying to educate myself.I don't know more than any pilot about this, I have never flown a plane. And I am not some hysterical panicker who believes it's everyman for themselves.Like I said I love the people I jump with.We are family.I would never put their lives at risk to save mine.I think things got twisted around and in my attempt to deffend my point it got misconstrued Maybe after you recover from the burn unit we could hook up at a DZ in Mexico and have a beer. 21. You are correct, This all started with my reply to you in regard to not getting out under 1000 feet.I threw that out as an example of when I would get out under 1000.Regardless of rules. People seemed to imply I could kill people if I did that in an engine out situation. So I kept saying that wasn't what I was saying going back to the fire.I originally was questioning how many people should exit at once in a very low emergency.Because I know not to shift weight around when the plane is having problems.I absolutely would listen to the more experienced people. My point was really about in a crisis there may come a time when you are in a situation where you need to decide for yourself what to do.That doesn't mean in every situation I would tell the voices of experience "i know better" because I don't.And I have spoken with very experienced people about this whole thread and they understood my point, having to make your own decision about your life. And how your life is more important than a rule at a DZ.Not your life is more important than the people with you.I think that was lost in this thread. "I'm not sure how it's going to turn out, except I'll die in the end, she said. So what could really go wrong? -----Brian Andreas
  22. That was in reference to the post about how at someones DZ they do not get out under 1000. I posted a scenerio where I would. And that's where this all got started.Good night "I'm not sure how it's going to turn out, except I'll die in the end, she said. So what could really go wrong? -----Brian Andreas
  23. Again Post#19 Post#38 You seem to think if there's an emergency I'm getting out. fuck everyone else.I gave an example of a time when I will use my best judgement.I said I wouldn't do this with an engine out and a pilot saying stay.I keep hearing how in the case of an engine out I could kill everyone. When I never said I'd get out in that scenario. I'm curious how many of you are going to buckle up and ride a burning inferno to the ground.I'm no expert, what happens should all the fuel ignite. "I'm not sure how it's going to turn out, except I'll die in the end, she said. So what could really go wrong? -----Brian Andreas
  24. The point has gotten lost through misunderstanding and anger. And pulling sentences out of posts that were not really the point to begin with. "I'm not sure how it's going to turn out, except I'll die in the end, she said. So what could really go wrong? -----Brian Andreas
  25. I'm glad I don't get upset everytime people have different opinions in an open discussion that should remain friendly among fellow skydivers.I sure would be upset a lot.
