  1. I have. twice now, been walking to the plane when I realized that I neglected to turn on my AAD. Both times, this was due to allowing myself to be distracted while doing my "beginning of the day" full gear check. My new rule is ALWAYS do the full gear check in one go. Never say "oh there is Bob, I needed to ask him a question about..." and run off before getting the whole way through my routine. That's a good way to forget to finish. I also try and make it the first thing I do after getting to the DZ, aside from taking a wizzer. A dolor netus non dui aliquet, sagittis felis sodales, dolor sociis mauris, vel eu libero cras. 2. What type of container/risers were you using? Usually the stow above the guide ring that the top of the toggle goes into after going through the cats's eye should keep the toggle in place. I wonder why yours didn't. A dolor netus non dui aliquet, sagittis felis sodales, dolor sociis mauris, vel eu libero cras. Interdum at. Eget habitasse elementum est.
  3. If I understand correctly, the 170 is free to borrow, so why not jump it? Chances are it will keep you entertained for plenty long, especially if you don't have a particular interest in canopy flight. If you're thinking about buying, 170 may have slightly more resale value than a 150, being a popular first canopy size. That said, a 150 would be marginally easier to pack, and slightly more entertaining. There are arguments to be made for either side, but as has been suggested, if you do go the 150 route, make sure you are comfortable with all the requisite maneuvers on the 170 before downsizing. 4. Agreed. Please refer to John Gabriel's work on the subject: http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2004/03/19/ A dolor netus non dui aliquet, sagittis felis sodales, dolor sociis mauris, vel eu libero cras. Interdum at. Eget habitasse elementum est.
  5. Excellent idea! I believe the way we did it at our competition was to put out 3 per pass with staggered pull altitudes. First out pulled lowest, second higher, and third pitching once stable. Seemed to work well enough. As for the competition, it was kind of a "zone accuracy", with points for going through the gates (which extended to the heavens), and 4 zones, with the third being worth the most, and the 4th the lowest. I think there was also footballs to kick for extra points, and more if you landed on the X (which was in the third zone). 8. As has been said, depending on your jumps, you may want to hold off until altitude awareness is second nature. I'm proof that if you move too soon to using an audible, you can grow to depend too much on your audible. With that said, you should decide if you want a logbook function in addition to the normal audible functions. If you can do without it, I would highly recommend the L&B Optima. I love mine. It has tons of features, is quite accurate, small, relatively inexpensive, and so on and so forth. Also, L&B are known for having excellent customer service. On the logbook side, I have an Neptune and love it, though mostly for it's features as a visual altimeter. Never used it as an audible, but from what I've heard the Optima is better at that role. L&B also has the Pro-Track, though it looks like it doesn't have as many features as an audible as compared to the Optima. My advice would be to get an Optima, and then decide if you need a logbook. Worst case you'll have two audibles, which isn't really bad at all. A dolor netus non dui aliquet, sagittis felis sodales, dolor sociis mauris, vel eu libero cras. Interdum at. 9. I've been into RW, specifically 4-way pretty much from the moment I saw a video of Perris Fury turning vertical blocks on the hill at Nationals. It blew my mind. I think you could say that I became a 4-way junkie from that day. Since that day, I've found myself wondering things like: What/who first did a vertical transition on a block? first started turning points while on the hill? Came up with the idea of 'slots'? Had the first 20 point score? Was the first team to break a 20 point average? Going earlier, who came up with the idea of what we now know as blocks? Who did the first 4-way? Who named all the formations? I'm sure there way well be no certain answers for many of these and similar questions, but they certainly beg to be asked. If you know the answers to any of these questions, or similar milestones, or know someone who might, I would love to hear it. 10. I said no, because it's only when they lack the ability to carry a conversation and do the stubborn horse thing that they piss me off. More often it's an excuse to prove to them that a atheist can be a better Christian than them. That or it's just kinda sad. I think it's demeaning to call such people cattle. To do so is to ignore whatever valid life experience lead them to what they believe, and only serves to prolong the game of pickle that people seem to think is religious debate. That said, yes some such people do annoy me. A dolor netus non dui aliquet, sagittis felis sodales, dolor sociis mauris, vel eu libero cras. Interdum at. Eget habitasse elementum est.

  12. some people are morons. As has been stated, they (mostly) became fat after getting on the cruse ship. I would say that the earth in Wall-E was a an example of how badly we treat the earth. If she wants to project the fat people in Wall-E (and by extension fat people in real life) into that role... then, well, if the shoe fits... 14. sweeeet. I'm officially sold on HD formats.! Here is to hoping that the launch of Scarlet is without the issues of the Red One. I can totally see myself replacing my GL2 with one. 15. For me, nerves come from performance anxiety more than anything else. This was true for AFF and continues to be true for the big ways that I've done. In the grand scheme of things, it seems like I have more to worry about now, since I sometimes jump with 40ish people. I worry not so much about the safely concerns (which I am well aware of) but more so I worry about screwing up the jump for two planes worth of people. With that said, I find that the key to getting over the feeling of being nervous is to focus on taking full, deep breaths whenever I feel nervous. For me at least, the physical feeling of being nervous comes from shortened breath, which I can easily fix within the first one or two full exhalations of a deep breath. After I've calmed myself down I then focus on visualizing what I have to do, to raise my confidence. A dolor netus non dui aliquet, sagittis felis sodales, dolor sociis mauris, vel eu libero cras. 16. Anyone know if there is any semi-official ham club for skydivers? Something along the lines of "The Flying Pigs"? I'm technically a ham, though I think I've actually used my license all of twice. A dolor netus non dui aliquet, sagittis felis sodales, dolor sociis mauris, vel eu libero cras. Interdum at. 17. Looks good, but I would put some rubber sheet in between the hose clamps and the strut to prevent them from wearing into it. Might well be unnecessary though. 18. Ditto! You need to know what you need before you buy it! I spend a while going low before I realized that I bought an inappropriate suit. My ability to fly with the formation improved by leaps and bounds when I borrowed a suit from a friend (thanks Dave!) As for manufacturers, I can whole heartedly endorse Michigan Suits (www.michigan-suits.com). I got a Tetris from Mike (the owner) and it is fabulous. Awesome booties, and bomb-proof construction. My next suit will be from them for sure. Oh, and it took 6 weeks to get to me. Not next week fast, but quite manageable.
