  5. Im confused. What are you proposing to change? Add your check list? I looked threw your list and as far as i knew i was suppose to cover all those things on your list for every level. This is why I am confused.I thought your list was in play in a way i guess. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  6. just doesn't make sense to me. AAD company's should have been on there own on this. changing their instructions on how to use there produce... Change to me is cause there is a problem with the way its being done. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  7. Psssst............... what is the traffic pattern altitude? im guessing the ground lol Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  8. so what is to be said about far part 105.23 (c) that stats 2k they are the feds guess that will change soon as well. I think it use to read 1800 a few years back if i remember correctly § 105.23 Parachute operations over or onto airports. No person may conduct a parachute operation, and no pilot in command of an aircraft may allow a parachute operation to be conducted from that aircraft, over or onto any airport unless— (a) For airports with an operating control tower: (1) Prior approval has been obtained from the management of the airport to conduct parachute operations over or on that airport. (2) Approval has been obtained from the control tower to conduct parachute operations over or onto that airport. (3) Two-way radio communications are maintained between the pilot of the aircraft involved in the parachute operation and the control tower of the airport over or onto which the parachute operation is being conducted. (b) For airports without an operating control tower, prior approval has been obtained from the management of the airport to conduct parachute operations over or on that airport. (c) A parachutist may drift over that airport with a fully deployed and properly functioning parachute if the parachutist is at least 2,000 feet above that airport's traffic pattern, and avoids creating a hazard to air traffic or to persons and property on the ground. 9. in my opinion this was USPA getting aad companies out of its ear. This change can be waived by a S&TA. If their was/is real data to support this why is uspa exposing itself with a waiver by a person that is most likely not a expert in AADs or air pressure? If a jumper does not have a AAd. How is this a problem affect him? How is it less safer now then last week or last month or even 10 year ago? Nothing has changes for a person without a aad. A person without a aad and is knocked out will not have any delay issues.. I ask why the change then? Simple fix would of been uspa turn to aad company's and have them simply add in their instructions that if use our product you must deploy by said alt or product could fail or work improperly. now with this way uspa will not be tied to a skydiving products issue.... THIS IS A SKYDIVING PRODUCT ISSUE. NOT A SKYDIVING ISSUE... Last thing it was in front of the board to raise Tandem deployment in past with same reason. That one was turned down. Best part is non uspa dzs will do business as usual. so guy up above thinking booth has hand in it. This will not help at all in this area. Was this uspa giving in ? maybe Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  10. Having delivered well over 2000 videos/stills on thumbdrives in the past year, and knowing other DZ's have delivered more than that without a single complaint nor request for a DVD...I challenge this way of thinking. It's a _shit ton_ more work/effort to strip video from the TS folder from a DVD to put the video online. It's also highly debatable that 'soccer mom' knows how to locate the transport folder, copy/strip the video, and then re-encode for YouTube or whatever. Yet it would be difficult to argue that soccer mom doesn't know how to insert a thumbdrive. Most TV displays made in the past 5 years have USB ports and AVC decoders as well. There are arguments against thumbdrives (mainly cost), but that it will 'limit viewers' has proved to not be one of them. The same argument was made when DVD overtook VHS, and it too, proved to be a non-issue. Next point; Offering a 'menu' of choices generally has just confused the issue. We've done this in the past, and while I agree with offering choices, practicality and speed make it a poor situation for a dropzone that is pounding out videos. If the conversation is a 182 DZ that has a lot of time to edit/render/deliver videos...sure. Offer them everything as side dishes. For a busy operation pounding out 100 tandems on a Saturday, it drastically reduces efficiency. Thanks my thoughts on matter also. Giving tandem student more opt will just make things worse Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  11. I think its the best way to give it to customer. Again price of dvd,cd, and paper selve comes to about a $1 iv found 3-4 on usb thumbs so its why I havnt changed. If i could find 1-2 a piece with adv print on it id jump all over it and yes would save so much time just draging and droping. Have any links like that send my way pleaae. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  12. Yea give customer log in or something. Trying to find other way then handing disks to customer. Thumb drives would be great if they were cheaper. I get calls every week my disk is scratched or it don't play. There has to be a better way. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  13. I want to use another method then DVD to deliver product to customer. (upload to website, thumb dive) Thumb drives seem to be to expensive. Cheapest I found was 4.25 per unit with logo. Anyone using anything other then DVD and CD's? Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  14. Nonsense. If that were true it wouldn't be available outside of the Factory Team. Just thinking out loud here. Who outside the team is it available too? A hand full of people? I can care less to be honest. I am having hard enough time wanting to get the scratch together for a comp velo. I am deff not paying 3500 plus for a canopy to compete 2-3 times a year. So again no worries I can careless who they go to. I do think its a wing and like every other wing you fly whats over your head. Wording is everything and the way they worded the article on said canopy makes them (pd) sound snooty to me at least from a public relation stand point. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  15. Wow! PD sounds a little full of themselves here. They should just say we made a new canopy for our team so they can kick more ass. I dont know what the rules are with what canopy you can use in comps. Im thinking that its for sale for that reason but they pick who to sell too. I dont have a problem with that at all. I mean one of reasons to get on a team is to have more of a edge right? (support, gear ect) I love my velo and thinking of stepping up to a comp. As far as copying, of course companies copy products. It happens in every market. Why should PD be any different. They are just keeping up with times. Looks like they are doing a good job of it too. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  16. There are guys loading less then 2. I would say just stick with what you got. Its enough stress going on to be worried about a new canopy too. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  17. Dont turn yourself into the ground and keep head on swivel. Watch for other canopy's Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  18. Well said. In comps at entry level of competing your last thought should be wing loading and size. Fly what you are use to. Do what you do back home in comp. Iv done a few comps my loading at last one was a 2.2 on a 90 velo with 12 pounds on. I placed 3rd overall and 1st in am class. Competing to me is not getting a 0. score every run. The score card will not show your wing loading or the size canopy you fly. :) In second speed round Greg set speed record loading some crazy 3+ wing loading in FLA and I was forth in that round in speed. Just fly what you know. It will get you the results you need. Just my option. Again im new to competing so my options will change as I go but what im saying is a good start. Edit to add: With higher loading you have less room for error. All inputs kill your speed. Its great if you are on all the time. There are very few that are. A lighter loading you can make those corrections without killing all your speed. I jumped the 12 pounds on all rounds just changed set up to the course depending what was going on (dist, accu,or speed) Good luck Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  19. Not me Larry but since you ask never. Every thing nykid is saying is true. Hens why there are hardly any fun jumpers there. I don't have any idea what when down at this casa boogie but I know Ray and it sure sounds like him. Of course someone with 100 jumps doesn't know any better but when your key advertisement is got 13500k and take jumpers to 115 more so then not then actions speak louder then words I'm out having to much fun where I am now Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  20. So after reading parachutist fatality report today. 64% being D jumpers out of all fatalities. Second highest was student who already have wing loading restrictions with 20% and B's followed with 16% A and C were 0. So 84% of the fatalities would not be affected by any canopy restriction changes These were the groups of all fatalities for the year 2011 6 were landing issues,8 were collisions, 2 no pulls, 5 were not fixing or getting rid of malfunction, 1 a reserve problem 3 were listed as other. 25 in all. The problem with the report and think should be added is the history of each skydiver( ratings and courses taken) to be able to get a full understanding on whats going on. So tell me how wing loading charts are going to change things. All this shit that's going on with canopy's is caused by lack of education. From how to deal with a malfunction. To knowing how to fly a pattern. Having more education on canopy will change things. The real problem is we prob wont see it change for a few years do to all the people out there that don't need to take any courses. Those people will still be a liability for lack of a better word. this is also based on none of these jumpers taken a course already. edited to add: either way we use education with or without a chart we wont see change for years. Again to many jumpers out there that wont have to take anything or have no restrictions. The only way to see results right away is make everyone at least sit threw a advance canopy course before their next renewal. We can do it like a recall with a car manufacturer. We both no that will never happen. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  21. Thats all fine and dandie. You had great instructors. If you read posts prior to that one I stated that there are 8 canopy tasks on your one page A card. That is all the required training you need in your skydiving career. This year things have changed. That's all I meant. Have a good one. http://www.uspa.org/Portals/0/Downloads/Form_ALicenseProfandApp.pdf Edited to add 2 part A card again. What's on there is bare minimum and just gives basic understanding. That's it. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  22. Man that's a lot of assumptions to make saying all those people would think the way you are suggesting. Just saying. Back to canopy. Having a canopy course right at solo status would be awsome. What the other guy is saying sounds a lot like a static line program to me tho I'm not rated in SI. Putting a canopy course In the A card progression should be done ASAP as everyone here knows there is no canopy training worth speaking about in it now. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  23. Yea Im not saying one needs to show crew skills to further themselves. Im saying they want to make two canopy ratings too teach. A basic and a advanced. (swooping) No one mentions a crew rating. I was just wondering why? I guess you can make a endorsement on the advanced rating like on a cdl for driving Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  24. I know we have people killing themselves under good canopy's. I just dont think we need to make BSR's to fix the problem. You mentioned we dont have data. We actually do. USPA gets all reports that are filed. We could use that data. They could research if any of them took canopy courses or check lists and go from there. To make a BSR not knowing if it is going to change anything is silly. We do far more jumps here then in other countries. So we will have far more problems in those numbers. I think we have two problems. First people don't know how to fly a pattern and check air space. This problem starts in the door. green light go scenario. In this problem wing loading chart wont help. I think we can agree on this. The other one is low turn into ground. People need to recognize when to bail and when not to do a (SWOOP) Wing loading chart might help here with faster recovery on lighter loaded canopy's. I still see a problem in this area even with a chart. I can get just as hurt on a 150 as on a 90 doing a low turn. If I don't see the picture and recognize to bail. So how would I go at fixing both problems in one swoop you ask. I couldn't resist sorry. Education, Education, and more education On the 2 part A card. that most DZs iv been at use. There is only 8 achievements on it that you need to do. Yes I said 8. That's crazy if you ask me. Here is the card http://www.uspa.org/Portals/0/Downloads/Form_ALicenseProfandApp.pdf No further education on canopy after that. Some accuracy landings for B and C which you can use your B landings for your C. So 25 total of 200. Now think back to your A. How much of that info did you really remember? I didn't. I just wanted to get 25 jumps so i could go freefly to tell you the truth. I only realized threw my education in getting ratings how little I really knew. Uspa this year has moved on this and put a canopy course to get a B. Great move. Now a jumper gets cleared for A. Within 25 jumps they now have to take a canopy course by itself. With the progression we have there is so much info that know one will remember all of it. The B course will reinforce all info covered before. Skydive U is great in covering teaching and the students retention. I think all good landings come from good set ups and patterns. Every bad landing I had was do to bad set up and pattern. 100%. So education on this will help. I do think we need to do more then this. Adding another course for D would be a good Idea. I have seen some D jumpers that my students could out fly. At the D level you only need to do two night jumps and they can be waived if jumper doesn't want to do them. At is level you are being cleared as a professional skydiver. There should be some requirements proving you are a professional. I think smarter jumpers make smarter decisions. Canopy ratings. when this is mentioned know one mentions crew. Why? Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  25. I dont understand how you can say a chart will help. How do we know if all fatalities were following brians chart already or done Bill von Novak downsizing check list. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/safety/detail_page.cgi?ID=47 We dont. The problem I have is everyone knows there is a problem and have ideas on how they think it should be fix. Before we change anything the research should be done. To change things and make BSR's because one thinks it will help is not proactive. Are guidelines good to have for safety? YES. I am not against having a chart if it will help. I just have no evidence that it will or if any of them in the past already used them. So why would I support the making a new BRS that we don't know if it will help or not. None of these proposals have any hard evidence showing that it will help. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
