  1. so i finally jumped the canopy 2 weeks ago. after the different opinions I got here, I prferred to unpack it. This is what I got: After I pulled the canopy out of the bag, I held it with the lines and the canopy stayed exactly in the shape of the bag even while shaking it not to heavy. I guess it would have opened, but it would have taken defenetly a longer time than usual. The canopy felt crispy (maybe becaus of the coating of a new zp canopy) and I needed to unfolt it and shake it seriously before the material felt ok to be repacked. but after the first jump it felt all normal again ;)
  2. Hi all, I was just wondering when you take your main out of the container and bag when not jumping? I asked an instructor, and he told me he leaves the main in the container even when he's not jumping it for weeks? i've got a new safire 2 and have not jumped it for 4 weeks, do you think i shoud take it out of the bag to avoid any kind of damage? if you take it out, how to you tow it? hanging? thank you very much for your feedback! br jean
  3. thanks for your feedbacks and hints! i apreciate that very much! there were many factors involved, that made it hard, even for the rigger, to locate the mistake. he said that there was something unproperly assemled (the part i did not understand) but, that it also could have been an unproberly loaded pilot chute or that is was trapped in the burble ... but i will definately see him again on that issue! fisrt thing i did on my new rig was to learn how to pack and i won't let anybody elde pack it again, by the way I have now the smoothest opening I ever had;) Guess that I have to jump, jump and jump with the new rig to get used to it (and the freefly handle that has to be "unlokced" prior to extracting it) in order to get the confidence back (even tough it did not happen with that one, but the same model). well, next try on sunday;) thank you again for you feedback!
  4. hi all together, i know the fear-theme has been dicussed maybee 1000 times, but is till have a question and would like to know about your experiences. I had recently my first cutaway (on my 81th jump) an a demo eqipment I was jumping. it was a high speed mulfunction, maybe a pc in burble ... the rigger told something about wrong assembling, but i did not understand all of it... well i had no time to think and just did the emergency procedure when i realised nothing was hapening after pulling ... i was at terminal velocity wehen i pull the reserve, and grabbing for the handles made me fall head first, so i saw the reserve opening from above, with my feed higar than the head ,, it was quite scary ... i landed it saftely ,... so all wsa fine. this was about 15 jumps ago and in the meanwhile i got my own rig, the same model i was jumping on my 81th jump. i now experience a kind of fear i never ad before, i don't know if it's gear fear ... i just would like to know how long it took you to overcome the frightening experience of your first cut away! thnak for sharing!! kr jean
  5. hi together, unforunatly i lost my pro track 2 days ago and i doubt that it will reappear;( if i like it or not, i must make a decision for a new audible, and because im in freeflyinf recently, i would like to get a 2nd audible to. i was very satisfied with the pro track so far an loved the logbook function. i wonder waht you out there think of the pro track / optima combination? have anyone of you alreday made some experiences with the optima, which as far as i know as no logbook function. what is your choice if you use 2 audibles? thanks for your recommendations!!
  6. you are right about the reserve size. but making my choice, there where 3 factores that lead me to that decision: - i already had the experience of jumping this reserve size (unfortunatly) not o this one, on a rented atom of same size. - my instructors gave me the ok - the guy in the shop who sold it to me, has the reputation of beeing really severe in respecting any rules or standards for canopy sizes he sells (i think this is due to liability issues). he said that the effectif size of a pd reserve is always a bit bigger than stated, sothat a 145 is in real somthing like a 155. these factores make me feel conftable with my choice, even though i don't hope to need the reserve again in the near future.
  7. thanks everybody for your explanations. now it is clear to me what this means! but i must confess that i'm really surprise of not heaving heart of this before. i did my aff and almost all further jumps in empuriabrava spain and jumped rented gear til now. wasn't allowed to pack myself on rented gear so I decided to do the packing course when I get my own gear, just that I don't forget something in the meanwhile ;) I will defenitly ask for this when I'm back there next week.
  8. i just got my first rig, an atom legend r, and just love it;) while reading the users manual, it said that I have to release my risers every 50 jumps and kneat them. Does anybody know what this is for and how this should be done? I have never heard of this before. thanks for your explanations!
