I started putting the handcam on my students about 6 weeks ago ... Personally I like it. Sometimes I have to direct their hand but that is no different than wearing it myself.

Nice DE-arches of the pax on exit:S

  2. Use the 1080P60 or 720P60 mode for video. Good for slow-motion.

    or

0.5sec for photomode (You need latest firmware!!!)

I personaly like spot exposure ON (dot with box icon) This adjusts the exposure based on the center of the image (passenger) instead of an full screen average. Just google "gopro3 spot exposure" for some examples why.

I've found that if you have "too many"* files on the card, the camera will only record about 20 seconds before it just stops. That's even with 40GB of free space and full battery.

    * I have no idea what "too many" means but after emptying the card, everything was fine.

Empty by formatting!!!!!!, not just delete the files.

***Is there any update to if the problem with the continuous photo in either .5 second or 1 second been fixed???....

Just read this on the gethypoxic FB page:

    current software version: HD3.03.03.00
    Wi-Fi version: 3.4.2.18
    release date: 07/30/2013

    Feature Enhancements:

Enables compatibility with new GoPro App features
Corrects HDMI TV preview from low res to high res
Fixes forced exposure lock on 0.5 and 1 second time-lapse intervals
Optimizes compatibility with select microSD cards by reducing data stream rate to 35Mb/sec while recording in 4K, 2.7K and Protune™ modes (HERO3: Black Edition only).

    Will verify tonight, sounds good!

SO by insuring the toggle is snapped in place this malfunction wont occur? 2nd Question this malfunction was caused by the packer shoving the toggle past the eyelet or on opening the toggle pulling itself up under the eyelet?

Direct cause: a packer that makes a mistake.
ROOT CAUSE: A design that allows the situation to occur. A more uniform stiff toggle design resolves this, regardles of packer skills.

    Hey Guys,
Here is one for you to discuss. It didn't happen to me and though I know there was a case where this actually happened, I have not seen it and can't give any more details than I'm posting here. So imagine this:

Your doing tandems at a dropzone close to the sea. For sunset you are doing a tandem landing at the beach. Because of the wind conditions the jumprun goes out to the sea and after an uneventfull freefall you open the main over sea at your normal deployment altitude. Then you have a line over mal, which cannot be solved but the canopy flies straight when you bury one toggle. Of course it will be impossible to flare like this.. Imagine further that you will reach the beach when you fly straight from here to the land but may not reach it when losing altitude by cutting away.
Now here comes the question: Do you cutaway when you don't know for sure if this will result in a waterlanding? Do you cutaway if you know it will result in a waterlanding?

    Discussion on :)

I doubt you understand the way canopies fly.

A main with a line over and the other side in full brakes is very unstable and will not have the glideangle you expect.
The small altitude loss due to a chop will be easily compensated by the glide angle of a reserve compared to the unpredictable (steep) angle of a malfunctioning main (1 side does not fly proper, the other 1 is 100% brake)

A 100% non-discussion. Just break away. Act as trained don't try to reinvent the wheel and find out you have an unlandable main in 200ft!!

I would never accept a student for training who doesn't speak english; would you accept a tandem student who doesn't speak a language you are fluent in?

    Why not:

  8. ALL optical/mechanical stabilization systems consist of a lens and an actuation system. As an actuation system does not have infinite stiffness the total system is in fact a mass on a spring.
Having a mass on a spring the only trick is to find the right frequency to generate occilations.
Body position and airstream can easily trigger such an event.

    Conclusion:
OIS can trigger unwanted vibration by design when exposed to the right condition.

  9. Remember:

skydivers are lazy people, so if anything cost a lot of force you are doing it the wrong way, find an easier way

you can buy a small module from Sony (or others) that would allow you to go tapeless with the HC1, but that would cost about the same as a CX100.

No I do not give my PASSENGERS an alti. Rigs are setup here in europe that they can not acces the release anyway

That's interesting. Is that some kind of rule from the skydiving or aviation organizations, a preference from DZO's or instructors, or something else?

It's the way tandems are sold here. A tandem is sold as a 1 time experience, not as training method.

    >Can you post a pic of a handcam setup.

Don't go cheap! Get a quality handycam system that doesn't rely on cheezy Hero cameras:

Already got a HC5 handcam set-up. Quality enough? I'm just curious how such a combined video/photo setup would look like, without getting bulky.
